Record Breaking Wolverines
Apparently the Men's Basketball team set two records in today's thumping of the Creamsicles
1) Michigan's 75-45 win over Tennessee is the largest victory ever by an 8 seed in the Men's Basketball Championship, besting the previous record by 7 points. Of the 4 other 8 seeds to win a game by at least 20 points, 1998 Rhode Island and 2002 UCLA proceeded to knock off the region's top seed in the Round of 32.
2) Apparently Michigan held Tennessee to the lowest point total of any team in an NCAA Tournament game. Previous record was 49.
First team to win a tourney game without hitting a FT.
but blow the other team out of the water! That's whats really impressive.
That's impressive. Let's hope the swagger and confidence of this team continues and turns into more wins.
I was hoping for a win, didn't see this type of dominant performance coming. Was interesting to watch UT come apart at the seams and eventually just quit.
Tennesse should have sent their paid team - the Volunteers couldn't get it done.
I love it.
Great first post.
We are like Biggie Smalls after Ready to Die was released.
15 total field goals for game, and just 6 in second half. Wonder if either of those are record lows.
Record for fewest field goals in a game is 8 (Springfield, 1940). But that was before the shot clock was instituted. Perhaps those Tennessee numbers are record lows for the shot clock era.
The lowest appears to be UCLA holding Mississippi Valley State to 29 points in 2008.

Vols were veritable scoring machines today compared to that performance ...
Lowest scoring in an 8-9 game?
Not sure that makes it right, but I'm guessing that's what he meant. I have a feeling many 16 seeds have scored less.
EDIT: correct answer below
I think they said during the broadcast that it was the lowest point total allowed by Michigan in a tournament game.
was Michigan's previous opponent low in the tournament.
*NINJA-ED
For the record, the record low in points was 20 (North Carolina, 1941). See this page.
Is that pre-shot clock era?
I'm guessing the pre-shot-clock era was before your time? The NCAA adopted the shot clock for the 1985-86 season. More trivia: it was initially a 45-second clock; changed to 35 for the 1993-94 season.
I think the lowest point total was for Michigan specifically in an NCAA tournament game.
I don't get TruTV, and I drank alot last night, and being on the West Coast, I completely missed this game. But to be honest, I was VERY surprised that we blew Tennessee out that badly. Surprised, but extremely happy. I think we can give the Dukies more than they're going to expect. Let's get the second biggest upset of the tourney! (Maybe biggest, but right now Morehead St. takes the cake).
This would be a bigger upset. BTW, you could have watched the game online.
Sleeping off St. Patty's day will do that to you. I fully expected Michigan to win the game anyways. I will def. be watching the Duke game though.
Also, I like that JB seemingly played all his players for some minutes, just so they can say they were on the court for an NCAA Tourney game. Classy stuff.
I think early foul trouble for Morgan and Hardaway Jr contributed to that, but it was nice to see the bench provide a huge spark in taking the momentum of the game.
For least amount of times I've sworn during a Michigan anything game in the last 3 years.
and don't even notice it.
and don't even notice it.
But not as much as Bruce Pearl is swearing right now.
Let's hope Michigan continues to give epic beatdowns to cheating coaches this year, if you know what i mean...
Not a record, but this has to be the first time in forever that Novak and Douglass combined for more points than Morris/Hardaway. If someone had told me that would happen and we'd win by 30 . . . I'd have been just a hair skeptical.
