The Matt Vogrich mad respeck thread

I think much recognition should go Vogrich's way today.  I think we've been slowly watching him transform from a 13-year-old kid who doesn't need to shave and can pop a three-pointer every so often to a complete basketball player.  IMO the game ball is his today for his huge play in the first half especially to keep Tennessee from running away with the game.  His defense looks really good these days too.  I don't know that he'll really ever be starter material but going forward I think we'll see him ensure there isn't much dropoff between the starters and the bench.  A huge advantage.

some good moments all season, given his low minutes. Knack for getting long rebounds. Buries good looks, and even his misses seem half down most of the time.

Instant Grit off the bench. Matt VoGrit.

The young man had maybe his best game as a Wolverine in his first career NCAA tournament game.  That steal and layup had me wondering who it was that was wearing that 13 jersey.   Not a lot of guys surprise you like that on a big stage.

He seems to not only have accepted his role, he embraces it.  He brings energy and he really moves his feet on defense.  He has been surprisingly good this year at taking the ball to the hoop and making back cuts.

That kid came alive today, but it's not like this was his only good game.  11 points was his high for the season, but he's had 6 games where he made 2 3's, and 4 of those 6 he only took 2 3's.  Late in the season he had 5 and 6 rebounds against MSU and OSU, respectively, and he played 20+ minutes in 4 conference games, 3 of which were wins.  He led the team in 3 point percentage at over 38% (last year he was 39%, albeit with fewer attempts).

This kid can play, and I think he'll be an asset in the next two years, especially his senior year once Novak and Douglass graduate (and maybe Morris and/or THJr in the pros).
