ESPN Incompetence

Submitted by AC1997 on

While watching ESPN this morning in preparation of the tournament I've heard not one, not two, but THREE different analysts talk about how the hardest thing for Tennessee to deal with today will be Michigan's 1-3-1 zone defense.  Hubert Davis, Jimmy Dykes, and Digger Phelps all ranted about this.

Meanwhile, anyone who has actually WATCHED Michigan this year knows that they almost NEVER play that defense.  I would estimate they play it 5% of the time at most.  It is amazing that the 4th place team in the best conference is so unknown to the "experts".

Unfortunately it won't be suprising to see us use some 1-3-1 today.  Which is going to reassure the fact that we use the 1-3-1 all the time to all the "analysts".  After we play man defense about 70% of the time today, everyone will say "Why did Beilein decide to not use his 1-3-1 defense all of the sudden?" and he'll get criticized.

To be honest though, we did not start winning till we went to a zone. I guess even though the exprerts were wrong they still know what they are talking about, UT struggles against the zone.

During the half time interview with Bruce Pearl, he did mention that his guys struggled when Michigan went to a 1-3-1. So there must be a little truth in what these analysts have been saying.
