Intro

Especially with 2019 DTs Smith and Hinton in the fold, maybe Michigan has built up some recruiting momentum on the d-line to start thinking about uber-recruit Zach Harrison as at least possible, if still very unlikely.  By way of background, here's the 247 profile (link) for the 4th-ranked 2019 prospect. His OV to Michigan was this weekend (June 21).

By and large there's some coachspeak, but I have found them interesting. I was particularly looking forward to Warinner, though I didn't feel like I learnt a great deal about his evaluation of the kids and new o-line philosophy. There was a bit about making complex ideas simple, so here's to hoping that works out.

What has stuck out to me so far were the Partridge and Jay Harbaugh installments. Partridge spoke on his recruiting philosophy and how much time it takes with his recruiting style--something like 2-3 years for a coach to build up relationships. From Jay's interview there was a brief glimpse into last year's problems with the offense from a coaching standpoint, with Jay talking about arrogance getting in the way of results and working relationships--a not-so-subtle reference to Drevno's time on staff.

Anything you've found interesting?

Camp update from Sam Webb

Camp update from Sam Webb

Pretty good stuff, as always.

From his "Inside the Sub" series, this one is free.

If Ulizio has really inserted himself into the mix at RT, that is outstanding news.  Would mean at least another viable contender (and depth) at that spot.  CB race is going to be so interesting, but as a poster in another thread mentioned, Metellus locking down the other safety spot has to be one of the best developments this spring/fall.  Funny I don't think I've heard Glasgow's name once during this camp, after so much visibility in the spring.

In the comments there's a minor panic about a Hurst injury, but it seems to have been talked down.

Najee Harris Explains His Commitment Decision

Najee Harris Explains His Commitment Decision

I understand many are exhausted by the topic, particularly nearing NSD, but I found the article (link) interesting.

1. It really did come down to the final day, which I think acquits Sam Webb (some were accusing him of prolonging the story to get subscriptions).

2. He didn't commit to Michigan for reasons Harbaugh would respect. Michigan doesn't yet have the recruiting to claim that all their athletes will face off against the best in practice. Harris framed this a way Harbuagh would, talking about constantly getting better against the best football players in the country.

Sam has a new (free) post up in which he interviews Rashan's mom about the decision. It was closer than we (maybe) thought. But he chose the good guys.

My favorite quote: "He picked Michigan so we will pack up all the gear,” said Coney.  “And I did. I packed up all of his Alabama, USC and all of his gear that he's collected over the last four years, I put it in a box, and took it to the Salvation Army. You chose Michigan and that's where you're going to be."

Look for Michigan to hire an assistant that will coach special teams exclusively. No position

This is thread-worthy, I think, because I'm pretty sure that this is Sam's way of saying something without revealing the name of the person who is going to take the job...

EDIT: Balas seems to be indicating that Ty Wheatley is our new RB coach:

Tyrone Wheatley officially in as Michigan's RB coach? Sounds like it ($): https://t.co/6VzBjjy9BA

Nothing revolutionary but I thought it was worth pointing out that Sam Webb doesn't "see a scenario" in which Hackett doesn't make a change at the end of the season:

http://michigan.scout.com/story/1483906-recap-after-u-m-loss-retention-…

EDIT: quotes for those who don't want to load the video:

Yeah, I think that this loss, just...really undercut Brady. I think it undercut the retention chances that he had. ...

I just don't see a scenario at this point with this loss where Jim Hackett looks at it and says he's gonna not make a change. ...

That's not based on anything I've been told... I think this game kinda, I think it does him in.

Sam Webb has an update on Mitch McGary on Go Blue Wolverine. It's a free link.

A lot of the same information, however it goes more into what he is doing in his workouts and how much he wants to get back to this team.

One interesting note was that Spike's older brother had the same surgery and gave him advice on things to do such as a lot of stretching and core work to strengthen the back.

You have to love the guy and how much he wants to be part of this team.

I missed part of the update, but from what I heard,  Sam said Michigan is DEFINITELY not out of it. He said he couldn't go into details, but he said MSU definitely has issues to overcome and there are factors heavily in favor of Michigan. He said OSU is also making a late run since Larry Johnson was hired. He felt they had no chance before. No one has any idea who the real favorite is but he emphasized strongly that Michigan is still in contention.

Edited: Upon replaying the podcast Sam said it was clear then changed it to pretty clear that his parents said it wouldn't go past signing day but then said it wasn't likely.
