Are there any other Gary V listeners on mgoblog??

I know someone posted about how Nik has scored 20 in the last two games, however I happened to watch the game and it reminded me of a certain first half Nik had against Florida this weekend in the tourney 4 years ago(SPOILER: He goes 5-5 from deep in the first half on some tough shots). Thought some of you might enjoy the reminiscing on this great basketball day.

Duncan ties Nik for season made 3 pointers.

With last nights win over Tulsa, Duncan Robinson tied Nik Stauskas for fourth place in single season made three point field goals at 92 and needs one more against Notre Dame to tie Louis Bullock for third place. Current standings: 1. Bullock 101, 2. Glen Rice 99, 3. Bullock 93.

In 2013-14, as a sophomore, Nik made 92-208 for a .442 average in 1281 minutes played in 36 games.

Duncan has played 1002 minutes in 35 games and has made 92-206 for a .447 average.

If that isn't close enough for you, Bullock made 93-207 in 1997-98. So, if Duncan makes his first three point attempt against ND, he will tie for third place on the same exact number of shot attempts.

In his first playing time for the Pacers, GRIII made a big impact with 10 points on 3-4 shooting(4/5 FT); he also chipped in 2 boards and a steal in 19 minutes.  Perhaps most importantly, he found himself on the floor with the score tied and less than a minute left against Evan Turner, Jared Sullinger and the Celtics.  The preseason noise about his development might not be the mirage it appeared to be after starting the season with 4 straight DNPs.

Stauskas started again for the Sixers and currently has 14 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists in the 3rd quarter, albeit not very efficiently(5/14 FG, 3/10 3pt)

Tim Hardaway and Mitch McGary's teams are both in action tonight, although neither have played.  McGary has 4 quality big men in front of him in OKC, while Tim Hardaway appears to be the literal last man off the bench for Atlanta at this point.

Final lines:

Robinson: 10 PTS, 3-4 FG, 4-5 FT, 2 REB, 1 STL, 1 TO, 19 Minutes
Stauskas: 14 PTS, 5-19 FG, 3-14 3PT, 1-1 FT, 7 REB, 4 AST, 4 TO, 35 Minutes
Hardaway: DNP-CD
McGary: DNP-CD
Burke: 17 PTS, 7-13 FG, 1-4 3PT, 2-2 FT, 2 REB, 1 STL, 2 TO, 26 Minutes
Crawford: 8 PTS, 4-15 FG, 0-3 3PT, 5 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 20 Minutes

There a is story on ESPN that Kings want to "dump" Nik.  Kings is not the best situation for him (he is averaging less than 4 points a game) as he is not used to coming off the bench, and his minutes have remained low.  I hope he lands at a place where he can start and gain his mojo back.

Kind of a random topic but watching basketball tonight has made me think of Nik Stauskas, and for whatever reason I've been in an Olympics mood, so this thought came up.  Obviously the US has the best national team, but I was thinking about it, and Canada could be really good in the coming years.  Looking at the best players of their roster:

F/C Dwight Powell - Plays for Dallas

F Tristan Thompson - Cleveland

F Andrew Nicholson - Orlando

F/C Kelly Olynkyk - Boston

F Andrew Wiggins - Minnesota

G Nik Stauskas - Sacramento

G Tyler Ennis - Phoenix

G Cory Joseph - San Antonio

F Trey Lyles - Kentucky (Still in college)

And a few others.

The biggest thing I notice is that most of the players tend to be on the younger side with minimal NBA experience, but many of them have the potential to be top players.  I could very well see this team qualifying for the 2016 Olympics and becoming a serious contender to the US in the coming years, much as the way Spain has been recently.  The team also might lack some depth, but certainly the starters and some of the bench will be plenty talented.

A bit random of a topic, I admit, but I just thought I might share it with you all.  Thoughts about this?

Submitted by BlueCube on July 7th, 2014 at 10:18 AM did a nice compilation of Nik being Nik. It contains his You Tube videos as well as clips of his predraft workout in Chicago and other videos. It's a great summary of everything. It sounds like the Sacremento fans are really supporting him.

Nice to reminisce with some of his highlights.

Stauskas invited to NBA Draft Green Room

ESPN Insider article on Embiid and how his foot injury impacts the draft.  Relevant part is at the bottom where Ford lists the players invited to the green room for the draft.  This is the first I've seen on what players were invited, and I know from some of Nik's interviews that he was hoping to be there.  Very cool for him indeed.  Assuming he accepts the invite, here's hoping for two straight years of seeing one of ours putting on a random NBA team's hat and holdling up a jersey.  Here's my hope for his new uni...
