1. Wisconsin After UFR

starts at 1:00

Whatchya going to do? Peters was fine, not great. The power run offense couldn’t do to T.J. Edwards and co. what it could to the pushovers we faced the last three weeks. O’Korn is who he is. Significant problems with line calls looked worse than normal, Wisconsin’s defense has something to do with that. Expect Ruiz to be an upgrade next year since the 5th year center isn’t getting the line calls any better than a true sophomore should.

2. Brian’s Hawaiian Hoops Podcast

starts at 19:58

The LSU loss was only mildly catastrophic: not a bad game, explainable since their little PG was going off. A bad result however because of its outsized effect on Michigan’s schedule, which needed some big games out of this tournament. Speaking of point guard…euh. MAAR is basically the PG right now; can we get something out of Poole?

3. The Game wsg Greg Dooley

starts at 43:02

1964 Michigan football captain Jim Conley is in the store with us, so while Seth talked to Jim about the biggest badasses in Michigan history, the podcasters have to listen to Greg Dooley about the history of the 1950 Game, when Oosterbaan out-punted Ohio State in a snowstorm. This led to Woody Hayes. A lot of talking about other things.

4. Ohio State Preview wsg Seth Fisher

starts at 1:10:10

O’Korn versus this defense is not recommended. Tiny house hunters. British things. Something about colons.

    1. Maryland After UFR

    starts at 1:00

Officials are worse than the players—Michigan got away with plenty of them. Offense things: Ruiz was again fine on the line. Peters missed a few things that we’d like him to be seeing. Blocking was over the Mendoza line and most of that was Gentry. Maryland caveat though. Spanellis keeps caving dudes—trust the wordy dude.

    2. Twisted Blue Steel: The Bo Memorial wsg Steve “Dr. Sap” Sapardanis

    starts at 24:26

We tell some great stories of Michigan history, like the time Dr. Sap and John Kryk broke into the coaches’ office to meet Bo in the bathroom. Bo hated Woody when he played for him, Bo’s players hated Bo—Bo was a needler. Harbaugh knew Michigan’s field goal record when Sap kicked a 55-yarder.

    3. Brian’s Basketball Podcast

    starts at 40:53

“Sir, if they were, they were at least seven inches…” that is not at all how the joke was written. The Teske’ing. We don’t think we’re going to miss Donnal. Gotta figure out the point guard and the scoring pecking order—Matthews might have been but he’s not been asserting himself much. Duncan’s hitting at the Duncan clip. Ace finds encouragement in this…don’t pay attention to the thruck. Defense is doing fine.

    4. Wisconsin Preview wsg Seth Fisher

    starts at 1:02:30

Meet the Badgers, just like the Badgers, who are just like the old Badgers, who are a warped version of Michigan. They are the platonic ideal of a 3-4 defense opposite a quintessential power offense. Their third string walk-on linebacker is really good. Brian has aerodynamic problems with the hoodie cornerback. Wisconsin is good at playing Big Ten football. Want to clarify it’s hoodie guy we hate and NOT Todd Howard whom we love. His noodliness needs to give us some picks.

    1. Minnesota After UFR

    starts at 1:00

You should probably block Khaleke Hudson. Minnesota’s approach to this game was bad. Not baffling—they were recycling ideas that worked once each for Penn State and Rutgers. Just…bad. It was bad. Offense things: JBB is obviously a good power blocker; when the offense was going to be a spread-to-Speight outfit in the offseason he probably was too bad at pass pro to be viable. Nice to see the running backs now picking up the subtleties of power running.

    2. Hoops Preview LET’S GOOOOOOO

    starts at 20:58

Who’s our point guard? Guessing Simmons will end up there, but it’s weird to go into a season without that spot settled—when was the last time that was true? Charles Matthews is the guy they trust to isolate and crate his own shot. MAAR’s usage up this year? Rebounding misses Derrick Walton; Moe Wagner knows he has to start grabbing boards to make the NBA. Teske is now Big Nasty (up from Big Sleep). Duncan Robinson is a coach out there. He might be the best shooter in the country; he might be the worst defender too.

    3. Gimmicky Top Five: Thoughts About Board Games

    starts at 44:50

We welcome special guest Reid McCarthy from Ann Arbor Elder Law to call Brian to task for calling out Settlers of Catan. This becomes a segment on all the board games we love and hate, and just put together once and thought it was cool but never actually played before losing a piece and now it’s worthless no YOUR childhood was ruined by MouseTrap. Also Brian realizes 5 minutes into talking about Wizards of the Coast buying out Dungeons and Dragons that he just went deeper into nerdiness than even this blog is comfortable with.

    4. Maryland Preview w—once again relegated to—sg Seth Fisher

    starts at 1:12:35

At least they have an excuse for their quarterback play. THE BORTENSCHLAGER experience might be over in favor of 5’11” Air Force kid. It’ll be like the Rutgers game but not the Minnesota game, basically. Come to me you precious easy passing yards. Come to meeeeeeeee.

The origins of the oldest and greatest rivalry trophy were way more normal than the legends, but there are some really good legends, like the time the Jug was stolen by some frat guys and they pretended to have found one.

      2. Rutgers After UFR

      starts at 21:45

Let’s talk about Peters: not just an O’Korn versus Purdue game. We nitpick because that’s what we do. The power running game and the tweaks to it were really encouraging.

      1. Penn State After UFR

      starts at 1:00

Defense got got: Penn State mitigated the DL, confused the LBs, and ignored the cornerbacks. Trace McSorley had his unstoppable throw god game. Nitpicks from getting picked apart by the Nits: don’t play an RPO team with your safeties at 15 yards, or get McCray on a Barkley-like object. Offense was some improvement, still a long way to go. Line calls look screwy: is Kugler to blame?

      2. A Refuse Repartee with John U. Bacon

      starts at 24:17

The Great Halifax Explosion: A World War I Story of Treachery, Tragedy, and Extraordinary Heroism comes out soon and Bacon just Before we start, dear listener, I want you to imagine your over/under for how many minutes it takes us to:

      a) say “Shut up, John”
      b) mention Dave Brandon
      c) call Bacon “Dave”

Also we talk about about WWI soldier, ladies’ man, ancestral pirate, amateur surgeon, hockey coach, machine gun officer, and hero.

      3. Gimmicky Top Five: Other Things That Would Lose to Rutgers

      starts at 52:48

Brian takes issue with people who reply in gifs, Seth takes issue with everyone who ever talks on the internet about anything, ever. Princeton has to deal with some awful red version of Sparty trying to steal their artillery. Hillary would lose to Rutgers.

      4. Rutgers Preview

      starts at 1:06:00

Ross Douglas in a Jake Ryan role is not going well. The defensive tackles are big and the noses are more than solid. Michigan should be able to flip the strength of the formation, blow out Turay, and run power to the house enough times to get Brandon Peters some snaps. Their offense is three running plays and can’t get the ball to Janarion Grant. We strongly suggest Michigan’s special teams also avoid doing so.

      1. Indiana After UFR

      starts at 0:25

Indiana’s in the Denard 2012 part of the inevitable offensive fadeout under new management. Long and Hill and Watson excelled against Simmie Cobbs, who’s the best WR they’re likely to face this year. Dwumfour has a rotation role now. Gary breakout. Refs had a terrible game—McCray cut block, Metellus thing, and Fant got the worst PI maybe ever. Ran a freshman offense for O’Korn; that throw into double-coverage on a two-man route summarizes the passing offense; where do we go from here? Running game is finally coming into its own.

      2. Mid-Mezzo-Equidistant Feels

      starts at 28:24

The defense is above where we thought they’d be, especially the cornerbacks. Keith Washington loss isn’t even a thing so far. Noah Furbush: defensive fullback as your backup DT! Special teams the returns could be better but nice not to worry about kicker all of a sudden and nobody saw Foug coming. QB… RB… OL… But hey TE is up despite Wheatley being hurt and Bunting falling off. WR…fuh.

      3. Gimmicky Top Five: Favorite Things About Penn State

      starts at 52:05

Nick Hopwood of Peak Wealth Management joins us. Some of these are really actually nice, like they have good tailgating, the stadium is kinda nice inside, and their uniforms are never uniformz, and they let you get revenge on Gerry DiNardo. Joe Pa was basically a guy with a sideline pass.

      4. Penn State Preview

      starts at 1:10:20

How is that defense very good? They’re very stout up front with the DT firm of Cothran and Cothren. The new DEs are good; Shareef Miller especially. Still have some stars in the secondary and Cabinda at linebacker is a solid dude. PSU gets pressure from blitzers. Barkley has 29 catches on 32 targets—he’s very very good—Devin Bush will have to draw him in coverage. Missing that big play receiver (Gesicki isn’t it as much this year) to replace Godwin. OL is a bunch of guards and look like Michigan in stats, but it’s Michigan with a quarterback and a Heisman candidate.
