Freshman Beaubien Hurls No-Hitter Over Purdue, 4-0

Freshman Beaubien Hurls No-Hitter Over Purdue, 4-0

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on March 30th, 2018 at 6:22 PM

After a disappointing opening to Big Ten play last weekend, featuring a split & a cancellation of the rubber game, Michigan softball got back into conference action today against a struggling Purdue squad.  A mid-week tune-up against Detroit Mercy bridged the gap - the Wolverines won that 15-0 in 5 innings, with Beaubien & Schaefer combining for the no-no.

Today, it was all Beaubien in the circle, and she was dominant.  1 HBP was all that separated the freshman from tossing a perfect game.  No walks were forthcoming, and Beaubien racked up 8 Ks to round out an impressive stat line.  Hopefully this is a sign that, after a couple wobbly performances (at least by her sky-high standards), Beaubien is now back on track for conference play.

Offensively, Michigan didn't get a ton going, but they did enough.  A pair of wild pitches plated a couple of runs in the 1st, and Tera Blanco (the only Wolverine to post more than a single hit on the day) put things out of reach in the 5th, driving home a 2-RBI single.

Michigan has 2 match-ups left against the Boilermakers this weekend, going toe-to-toe tomorrow morning at 11 AM, followed by an Easter Sunday clash at 1 PM that will be featured on the Big Ten Network.

Any ideas on Final/Frozen Four viewing options in Disney World?

Any ideas on Final/Frozen Four viewing options in Disney World?

Booked a Disney World trip well before thoughts of either the basketball or hockey tournaments were dancing in everyone's heads.

Are there any Disney vets out there who could recommend a viewing place for either of the Frozen / Final Four near Saratoga Springs?

Thanks in advance

https://www.clickondetroit.com/sports/former-detroit-tigers-all-star-hi… Sad news, baseball fans: former Detroit Tiger Rusty Staub (aka Le Grande Orange to Montreal Expos fans) has passed on to the Great Diamond in the Sky. Staub, who played primarily 1B and DH for our Tigers, was one of the best pure hitters in MLB during his long career.

Softball has added a midweek game for this afternoon at 4:30 against  U of D Mercy. As my headline states admission is free. Come early and get the good seats that have always been occupied by the diehard  softball fans. Weather should be fine and game might be short ( run ruled?). I'll be ushering near the press box for my once yearly softball gig.

With her team winning the BIG championship this weekend, Bev Plocki has won more BIG championship than any other male or female coach in BIG history (she is tied with former Indiana swimming coach).

Her record is just unbelievable (link):

Big 6th Lifts Softball Over CMU, 5-0

Big 6th Lifts Softball Over CMU, 5-0

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on March 21st, 2018 at 5:46 PM

Michigan softball just wrapped up their home opener, topping CMU 5-0 at Alumni Field.  The weather was chilly, and so were the bats through 5 innings in this one.

Neither team could scrape together a run, although the Chips came dangerously close in the 5th.  Hutch had lifted starter Tera Blanco for freshman phenom Meghan Beaubien, but Beaubien coming in cold could not keep Central off the base paths.  With the bases loaded, Blanco returned to the circle and got the Wolverines out of the jam.  Blanco would keep the door closed in the 6th, before getting her chance to play hero on the other side of the ball.

After Faith Canfield and Natalie Peters picked up hits, Blanco stepped to the plate with 2 on and no outs.  She delivered a double to the wall, driving in what would turn out to be the winning run.  Madison Uden added another double, making it 3-0, and Lou Allan and Faith Canfield added RBI singles as the Wolverines batted around.

Freshman Sarah Schaefer, coming off a Big Ten Pitcher of the Week performance last weekend, slammed the door in the 7th, and a stressful pitchers' duel ended as a comfortable M win.

Conference play begins on Friday, as Michigan travels to Iowa for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday 3 game slate.  Friday's game will be on BTN at 6 Eastern, 5 Central, so take a break from the Sweet Sixteen to take in some bat-and-ball action!
