More OSU Schadenfreude: OTL Profiles Dennis Tallbott

Submitted by MGoShoe on June 12th, 2011 at 10:37 AM

ESPN's Outside The Lines profiles Dennis Tallbott.

First a litany of shady dealings with the OSU athletics department and football program:

  • Set up paid signing sessions for OSU student-athletes (with eligibility) as early as 2006, including at least one current NFL player.
  • Wore the national championship ring of an OSU RB and told relatives he had paid the rent of a WR on the 2003 OSU national championship team.
  • Routinely provided Terrelle Pryor with free rounds of golf at his country club during the summer after Pryor's freshman season.
  • Brought Pryor and Thaddeus Gibson to his son's birthday party in Dec 2009 and Pryor and DeVier Posey to his son's birthday party in Dec 2010.
  • Retained his media pass for the 2009 football season despite OSU's knowledge of the country club issue.
  • Tressel was made aware of his sales of underclassman signed memorabilia in Mar 2007 but still received free tickets to OSU games by football players eight times during the 2008 season.

Then a litany of shady dealings in general:

  • Falsely claimed to have been a former Chicago White Sox pitching prospect. His stepmother says he didn't even play sports in high school.
  • Falsely claimed to be a graduate of Kent State.
  • Has caused "some financial problems" for his adoptive father and stepmother.
  • Bad debt and back taxes owed in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • Found in contempt for failure to pay child support.
  • Sports memorabilia dealers challenge the authenticity of several items he sold.

OT- Summer Thread: What Movie do you have to see to be a Man?

So even though the recruits are coming fast and furious, and OSU is keeping us entertained, we're due for some more threads just for fun. As I'm flipping channels tonight, I see that AMC is showing "The Man With No Name Trilogy", which I can't go by without watching a few scenes. Because it's mancard viewing 101. Which led me to think - What other movies do you have to see before you can have a full fledged graduate mancard, and not just a learner's permit? The Dirty Dozen came to mind, and I could probably think of a lot more, but I'd rather hear what you all think. So crack open a manly beer, fire up cable or your various video player, put on something with a lot of testosterone, and chime in.

Very OT - Moving to Sacramento

Very OT - Moving to Sacramento

Submitted by allezbleu on June 11th, 2011 at 6:44 PM

Dear MGoCommunity,

I am moving to Sacramento and I wanted to ask about recommendations on places to live. My work is in Folsom (25 mins outside Sacto) but since I am a single dude fresh out of college, I figured I would live in Sacramento where there are young people, restaurants and nightlife.

I'd be really thankful if anybody had knowledge about specific neighbourhoods or apartment buildings and realtors.

Also has anyone experienced the "reverse commute" from Sacramento to Folsom?

And anyone know of any Mchigan bars here? I don't see any listed under MGoBoard > Michigan bar locator...

Any good bars in general? My favorites in AA were Charley's, Ashley's, Jolly Pumpkin and Grizzly Peak.

Sorry for such an OT post and thanks in advance!

Coolio = Amani Toomer

Coolio = Amani Toomer

OK, to my knowledge this has never come up:

That is the video for Coolio's single "1-2-3-4 (Sumpin' New)" from 1996.  When I saw it, I immediately noticed Mr. Ivey is wearing a 1995 Nike Michigan home jersey #18, which would make it Amani Toomer.  It would also make it one of the earliest Nike Michigan replica jerseys to feature the swoosh.  (He looks to have the tackle twill model rather than the screenpressed.)

But wait, at both 0:27 and 0:54, we see that one of Coolio's posse is rocking a #21 white Michigan road jersey.  I do not see the swoosh on it, so I am going to presume that this is a Howard homage rather than a Biakabatuka, although the video would have been likely shot post-1995 Ohio State game, so perhaps it is a 313 shout out.

Anyway, since it had never come up to my knowledge, here it is.  Enjoy your Thursday afternoon.  Because there ain't no party like a Big House party because a Big House party don't stop.

This probably fits in the "Cool Story Bro" category, but I'm very amused, and I thought I'd share. I'm the parent of rising high school senior (an awesome Michigan fan!) who has good grades and test scores and, as such, gets a lot of unsolicited email from colleges. Today she received one from "The Ohio State University" with the subject line "Feeling the love?"

I was feeling awkward and I hadn't even opened it. It was remarkably brief, and the highlight was this:

It's entirely possible that you are the brightest student ever.

The Ohio State University just might be the finest institution of higher education on the planet.

Seems we should learn more about each other.

They really published "finest institution of higher education on the planet." Words fail me. I figured y'all could help me respond appropriately.
