OT: Saturday Night Open Thread

Submitted by justingoblue on July 2nd, 2011 at 11:38 PM

So it's Saturday at 11:30 and there isn't a drinking thread. I don't know if this is because nobody is interested, or just that nobody started it; either way, it's here. Also, I wouldn't mind hearing everyones best excuse for not creating one yesterday (it's a holiday weekend people, come on). Mine- my dog ate my computer.

Anyway, I'm at the girlfriends family place drinking crappy beer and listening to good music. Her friend is itching to go out and do the same somewhere else, but f that, I like it here better.

Meta - Happy 3rd Birthday, MGoBoard

The Mgoboard turned 3 yesterday.  I remember the day it went live, because I suddenly found a new and far more interesting way to while away time during my summer internship.

Take this momentous opportunity to read the MGoBoard FAQ if you haven't already.

Then, go check out the user created HOF to re-live some of the best (and worst) of times.

Lastly, think of what a dark and lonely place your life would be without the MGoBoard.  What would you be doing, spending time with your families?

I have been playing the demo for a while since it came out, and I figured that it would be worth some discussion. My thoughts:

The gameplay hasn't improved much. The graphics are a bit better, the game runs a bit smoother, and while the new tackling system helps a ton, the gameplay is still about where it was last year.

The presentation improved, but I don't care too much about that. New franchise modes are cool, but not revolutionary.

My favorite part of the new game is the subtley retooled difficulties. Last year, I couln't find one that worked for me (all american was too easy, but heisman was unfair). However, this year Heisman has gone from unfair to more difficult.

For example, instead of CPU DBs suctioning to your WRs, making passing impossible, they will just cover better. You can still complete passes, but you have to be skilled at going through your progressions and leading WRs. Instead of CPU D-linemen getting into the backfield in 1 second on run plays, they just make it more difficult. Holes are still there, but they are smaller and close faster, meaning that you have to hit the holes faster. Another welcome part is that the CPU doesn't (at least from what I can tell) call their plays based off of yours. Last game, you could call a HB draw on 3rd and 20, and the CPU would line up with 8 men in the box. This year, playcalling is more of a skill.

What do you think?

This is amazing.  In the last round of this tournament around 84,000 votes were cast between us and Clemson over the whole week.  In one day against Nebraska over 60,000 votes have been cast. The other semifinal has ND vs. FSU and only 33,000 have been cast so far.

We are currently down in this poll 49 to 51 percent.  It runs until next Tuesday.

Subject pretty much says it all, Dhani on the book tour getting some TV pub. Searches for "Dhani Jones Jimmy Kimmel" come up with far more links to live web streams than actual episode descriptions, but if the Internet AND Comcast agree, they can't be wrong, can they?

If you're not around, or find out late, you can watch the episode in it's totality, with full permission, at Kimmel's website, (after the fact, I'm guessing)-

Is anyone else having issues with Google Chrome - but not Internet Explorer - all of a sudden?  The last couple of days, it's just been sending me error messages and won't open.  My connection itself must be okay, since IE functions.  Is this just a temporary thing, or do I need to uninstall and reinstall GC?
