Conference Alignment and Research Dollars Reconsidered

Conference Alignment and Research Dollars Reconsidered

About a month ago, I wrote a diary using compiled research expenditures by school and athletic conference. The best expansion scenario featured Duke, UNC and Pitt, all of which are almost certainly off the table at this point (the ACC recently increased its buyout fees to $20m, yeesh). Here is a revised list of schools that I would consider available. Criteria for available: not an SEC, Pac, ACC or B1G school and currently in a BCS auto-bid conference (and ND). All numbers are five year aggregates and *1,000.

The Current Big Ten:

Wisconsin 4,116,318
Michigan 4,063,612
Ohio State 3,202,138
Minnesota 2,965,622
PSU 2,873,737
Illinois 2,457,119
Northwestern 2,093,400
Purdue 1,948,883
Iowa 1,650,222
Michigan State 1,580,244
Chicago 1,551,427
Nebraska 1,054,776
IU 678,879

Fun facts:

Total Spending 30,236,377
Median Spending 2,093,400
Average (includes <40,000,000 as zero) 2,325,875
Average Per Year 465,175
Highest Spender Wisconsin (4,116,318)
Lowest Spender Indiana (678,879)

Available schools:

1 Texas 2,126,324
  Big Ten Median 2,093,400
2 Cincinnati 1,576,410
3 Rutgers 1,399,272

  Lowest B1G School 678,879
7 Louisville 675,035
8 Kansas State 627,893
9 Kansas 605,485
10 Oklahoma State 526,012
11 Connecticut 523,633
12 Notre Dame 398,712

OT-City of AA rental/trash laws

OT-City of AA rental/trash laws

First off I'm sorry for posting something OT during the football season, especially so close to game day but I do have a problem that needs to be resolved.  The management company that bought our complex last month just left a note saying that if we don't put our trash and recycling bins in our garage 12 hours after they pick the trash up and keep them in there until the night before trash gets picked up or they will fine us $25 every occurrence.  I don't want to do that because even if I try and use the garbage disposal for as much food waste as possible, which I do, there is still going to be some that ends up in the trash.  Our garage has no air circulation, only 1 small window, and in the summer months it stinks if we try and keep the trash in there.  We also use our garage, i keep a weight bench in there and the gf has a bowflex in there.  We are not he only residents of our complex to keep our trash bins by the side of out apartments and town homes, I think roughly 80% of all tenants do the same.  I looked over our lease and it doesnt say anything about us having to keep our trash in the garage but under the rules of the premesis it does say the management has the right to change the rules as they see fit.  Should I try and fight this?  I e-mailed the city and asked if this was legal and what department I should inquire with thinking maybe there was a city ordinance against this.  Also, I know that some of you will say that the management company knows what the laws are, but when they bought the property last month they put a note on everybody's door stating that between the 6th and the 20th of this month they will be doing inspections and that the note was a sufficient notice of entry, so obviously they either do not know the rental laws or city laws or they don't care about them.  Thanks for any input.

AA.com republished a column from Pennlive.com that has a sizable discussion with Loeffler and how he's doing:

http://annarbor.com/sports/um-football/ex-michigan-qb-coach-scot-loeffler-now-at-temple-i-love-the-college-game/?cmpid=NL_DH_topicbox_headline

It goes extensively into how he and Tom Brady became so close, and how they helped each other, as well as numerous glowing quotes from Lloyd Carr.

I think it's good he's getting some OC experience, because rather than doing the learning curve here, he could be preparing himself for down the road when Borges finally decides to hang it up. I'd love to have him back at some point....and maybe groomed to take over when Hoke is done.

I thought we could check in on how our drafts have panned out since we are officially in the season now. Mine couldn't have gone better. Not only did I draft well, but I was able to trade some high risk-high reward players I drafted for better starters. Now my team is completely dominant.

QB: Drew Brees

RB: Chris Johnson

RB: Matt Forte

WR: Greg Jennings

WR: Calvin Johnson

WR: Santana Moss/Miles Austin

TE: Jason Witten

D/ST: Ravens

K: Stephen Gostkowski

This is in a 10 team league.

Why I love this MGoShirt ad

Because it looks like Lloyd, Dhani, and Bo (sort of) are wearing MGoShirts.  To blow your mind even further, the shirt of Lloyd is wearing the shirt of Dhani wearing a shirt.  I know I'm not the first one to have noticed this, right?  Is it Saturday night yet???

EDIT:
So now Animal and an astronaut have decided to get in on the "shirts wearing shirts" act.  Crazy times in which we live.
