MSU has not yet played a winning football team

MSU's opponents:

Western Michigan (2-3)

Oregon (3-3)

Air Force (2-2) - currently playing Wyoming, up 7-3 at halftime

Central Michigan (2-4)

Purdue (1-5)

Rutgers (2-3)

When you need Air Force to pull off a win so you have a quality opponent on your schedule....

when your "signature win" was against a team that's now 3-3 on the year with one of those wins being a FCS team...

When you've only managed to hold one of your first six opponents to under 21 points...

When you have a top 10 ranking because "they were good last year" and not much else...

How are you feeling, Sparty?  You think your undefeated record and your lofty ranking will help you? Ask BYU.  Ask Northwestern.  Just don't ask them where the end zone is, they can't help you there.

MSU wins: Let the excuses begin

Michigan State escapes tonight with a win against Rutgers. The excuses will begin, the statements that "all that matters is whether you win."

Actually, MSU winning is the best possible outcome for Michigan. We will beat them when they are undefeated, and this is more of a "quality" win, not that it matters.

I have analyzed my feelings regarding OSU and MSU.

  • OSU is more important, but I respect them more, and hate them less.
  • MSU doesn't matter as much, but I want to destroy and obliterate them, and dislike them more.

I am so looking forward to next week.

per this Instagram post by Gardner, who was also in town for Homecoming.

I mean, Countess is an alum. Kind of strange, though since he's still a college athlete at another school.

Mates,

This week most of us will encounter sparty types in our work place, at the kids' practices and games, etc.  Do you have any rabid spartys you'll be dealing with?  How will you handle them?   We've got some spartys at our office, but only one is rabid and he's still pretty much a gentleman about it.  He and I do have a wager on how many victories Michigan will get this year, and he said Michigan won't get 7 - looks like a poor choice on his part.

Who will you encounter this week and how what're you going to say to them?  Are you a smack talker, more quiet, or somewhere in between.

Great game today.  Turning into a phenomenol season.  Oh boy, in one week we could really be off to the races.  Go blue.

...a team has recorded two shutouts in a single season against AP ranked opponents, and won both by 28 points or more. Last time was 1966 Notre Dame.

It has only happened four times before (once by Michigan in 1948).
