I was reading this the other day and it was just like gaahhhh. I honestly felt awful since this is not the guy bitching at the end of the bar, but someone who has fought the battles and gave to the program. We have sat here on the board and argued perception vs reality, but man this thing has to change soon. Reading this was damn depressing. It is behind the paywall, but here is the link anyway if you have the subscription http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1157241.

Here are a few quotes, turn some Morrissey on:

On the excitement over this week: "What excitement? I talk to a lot of former teammates and I watch the news and read the papers but there really doesn't seem like there's much buzz. It's like it's just accepted that this is Michigan's last regular-season game and what everyone is actually looking forward to is the bowl game because it should be a favorable matchup.

On his impressions of the Wisconsin game: "I felt like I was a little kid being punished by having to watch that. I honestly don't know how many Michigan guys watched the whole thing.

On his expectations for Saturday: "I'm always going to look forward to this game but my expectation is not that we're going to beat Ohio State - I'm just hoping we don't get embarrassed. It's hard for me to say that. It's devastating to say that. You hope the kids can play the game of their lives and make Michigan proud but you're really concerned that you're going to feel humiliated on Saturday."

Moving Picture Pages - Swallowing Kenny Demens

This is another illustration of how the positioning of the MLB so close to the line of scrimmage in Michigan's 3-3-5-that-isn't-really-a-stack renders him more vulnerable to being eaten alive.

In other news, I don't know if it's the prospect of the upcoming bludgeoning by Columbus Community College or the fact that most of these are of a play that didn't go well, but these are starting to get hard to do.  "Here's how we screwed up again, in excruciating detail."

Anyway.  Wha'hoppon: Wisconsin has second and three at their own 32 on their second drive of the day.  Michigan plays a stack over Wisconsin's I-formation.  The play starts out as an iso to the right. Martin stands up a double team and then slants playside, and Ezeh takes on the FB to close the playside hole.  The blocking works much better on the other side, with Mouton being erased by the backside guard, RVB being kicked out, and the playside guard releasing off Martin to devour Demens.  Avery fills the hole between the guard and tackle, but the blocks on Demens and Mouton leave a cutback lane open to the inside of the tackle and Montee Ball rolls through it for a ten-yard gain before Vinopal can chop him down.

Brian's Trip to Columbus

Brian's Trip to Columbus

Last year, I read a story that Brian wrote about a trip to Columbus several years ago.  He went with several friends, including "Cripplesticks", his term of endearment for his med school friend who used crutches.

I would love to find the story.  I have searched for an hour, but keep coming up with blanks.

If someone can find a link, I would really appreciate reading it...if you haven't read the story, you should.

Go Blue!  Let's kick some Buckeye ass tomorrow!

Well, here we are. The night before the biggest game of the season. The outlook does not bode well for us. The hell with outlooks and the hell with osu. Let's build the most hate for them in one post that the negative energy travels to Columbus to see Justin Boren curl up into the fetus position and Terrell Pryor learns math.

Friday night. This will be our little bonfire pep rally.

To start:

The way osu students receive their degrees:

Now let it rip boys and girls....

So Brian always comes up with funny "win will cause me to:" statements

What are your best "win over OSU will cause me to"s?

I'll start:

WIN will cause me to: stay up for all of next week and trawl OSU blogs while hoping the collective

disbelief of the 100,000+ truck drivers sucks the entire city into the 12th plane of torment soon after M fans leave.

OT: Auburn/Alabama show that Boise/TCU MNC claims ludicrous

There is simply, objectively, no comparison between what Auburn has had to do to to advance to the SEC title game and what Boise/TCU have to do to go undefeated. Playing at Bama, getting through the SEC schedule, and now having an SEC title game is playing football on another planet than Boise. Boise, who's "Big Tests" were Oregon State--yes Oregon State, Va Tech and now, the latest "test," a Nevada team they have beaten ten years in a row. I have no issue with Boise or TCU in a BCS game, but even if Auburn loses in the SEC championship game, they will be FAR more worthy of a BCS MNC game than either of Boise or TCU. So would LSU.

Turning the Corner

Turning the Corner

One of the things I don't think most fans appreciate and I know the MSM doesn't even understand is the difficulty Michigan faces in turning the corner.

We were still every teams Super Bowl this year despite all of our struggles.  Teams are even more excited top play us because they see a great chance at victory as well.  Ohio st is the only other team that gets this treatment in the Big Ten, but while those teams "get up" for OSU deep down they know they don't have much chance so you see a lot of teams implode once they get down.  We might have been 9-2 or 10-1 right now if this exact team was dressed in green and white.

Once we get up and rolling in terms of overall talent and teams fear us again we should have an easier time. but getting there is going to be that much tougher, because of who we are.

There are a lot more factors other than playing Michigan but look at some of the teams that we played this year.

UConn- After we beat them down they spiraled out of control, but they have since gained their footing and lead the Big East

ND-They spiraled out of control as well before their late surge to get bowl eligible.

Ind- Lynch was "All In" against Mich after that they have been even more awful than usual.

MSU- They have continued on, but they were terrible the week after against Ill and haven't played well since then

Iowa-Eh they've been all over the map.

Penn St.-They've been ok but they did fall down 21-0 to NW the week after.

Ill- They tanked against Minn enough said

Pur- D. Hope can coach because they kicked the Spartans ass before imploding.  I lost a lot of money on the assumption they were all done and couldn't score anyway.  Quite an impressive performance considering their injuries.

Just a thought when you get depressed about our lack of progress.  Our progress is going to come in chunks not little bites.
