2000 Orange Bowl shirt

Just throwing this out there, while fully acknowledging that it's a little strange to be discussing a ten year old t-shirt:

Did anybody else get you the bright orange Orange Bowl t-shirt?  I got it and proudly wore it - once.  It's simply too orange to wear in public.  It's safely tucked away in my drawer though.

According to Andrew Bone of Scout.com, 5* FL QB Teddy Bridgewater, as well as his 3* FL WR Teammate/Friend Eli Rogers have committed to Louisville. Look's like Coach Strong's really building his program there. A few other notable commitments recently.

4* Ath Miles Schuler to Rutgers...he was rumored to be visiting here a while ago, but that doesn't look like it'll happen anymore.

4* Ath Rodney Coe to Iowa...he got an early offer from M but then we sort of fell out of it. Teammate of big 2012 NT Vincent Valentine.

3* QB Michael Eubank to ASU...we got in contact with him for a while, and after Sousa's decommitment I thought we might look back that way, it appears not to be.

I'll let Tim cover the rest in more depth in his weekly recruiting column.

Stan Edwards Call to WTKA

Stan Edwards Call to WTKA

Submitted by Ziff72 on December 20th, 2010 at 10:52 AM

So 2 weeks ago Stan called in to blast Brian and Craig Ross for their criticism of ex players toward Rodriguez.   Stan had me fired up as he told them that he went to see RR last week to offer his support.  As a decorated alum and RR's open door policy toward them I am sure he has access to practice, facilities,  whatever.

So today he called into the recruiting roundup and threw Beilein under the bus with a story about him not accepting B. Kearney which nobody had heard including Sam and then asked Sam a question about one of his kids who is a Sophmore in football and how much contact he can have with schools as he intimated he was disappointed he hadn't heard from Michigan yet, but had heard from Oregon(at this point Sam explained only a questionare could be sent or it was illegal contact and that Mich had to be on its best behavior).

I guess my question is if he went and saw RR last week, couldn't he just tell him about the kid and ask him to send him a questionare or talk to Singleton about the rules.   To call publicly just seemed like a way to jab at the staff at not being on top of an instate kid we can't even talk to anyway.   Seemed very odd.

Also, what happened to R. Leach on WTKA.  He used to call all the time and now I never hear from him.  I know he took a lot of heat when Lloyd went to the Iowa game and he fried him for it, but was there something else that happened that stops him from coming on with Sam?

If you were Santa Claus would the Michigan football program be on your Naughty list or your Nice list this year? How about Coach Rich Rodriguez? Do you approve of the behavior of Athletic Director Dave Brandon? Whatever your position, I have a Christmas gift for you. I've created two holiday-themed wallpapers so that you can choose the one that best represents your spirit this football season. If you had Santa's freakish ability to squeeze down chimneys (and his immunity from breaking and entering charges) would you deliver a lump of coal or a tasty gingerbread treat?

Feel free to regift.

The images below are previews only. You can get the widescreen, 4:3, iPad and mobile wallpapers at The Art. The Art. The Art!.

Naughty or Nice - Christmas 2010 Wallpaper Preview

How it was made

The lump of coal for the Naughty image came together rather painlessly but as you can see from the video I really struggled with the Nice image. If you watch closely you'll see several discarded concepts including a gift box with a bow (looked too tacky) and a candy cane (colors were too Ohio State-ish) so I landed on the gingerbread house (which is arguably more tacky than the gift, but you get what you get and you don't get upset). I sped up the footage to condense several life-wastingly long design sessions into a little under 3 minutes of video. If you're looking for an alcohol-free way to numb your emotional distress this holiday season this video is for you.

Bonus Wallpaper (or that one gift I hid behind the tree only to be unveiled after all the other gifts were opened)

In late October I stumbled across a fantastic high resolution Tron Legacy publicity image showing off the new light cycles. The combination of colors (blue and gold) and the futuristic protective gear made me think of Michigan's modern, high speed offense and Denard Robinson at the controls. After his record setting season, Denard Robinson has laid the foundation for a Michigan football legacy sure to last. Man, this is super nerdy but I like it.

Justice Hayes' role if Dee Hart decommits

Justice Hayes' role if Dee Hart decommits

If Dee Hart decommits, does Justice Hayes get recruited as a RB instead of slot receiver?

Rawls was going to be recruited at RB regardless of what happened to Dee, so I'm curious if we still keep Justice at the slot, or put him at RB and recruit another slot (Prince).

I didn't mark OT because IMO this type of stuff is never OT.

I look back three years ago and I have witnessed a determined attempt to smear RR and staff since they arrived.  No matter what happens and no matter how you feel you must admit that this staff is beyond caring.  The work at Mott, the handling of DR with concussion symptoms, the discipline of Hagerup and the total class of how they have remained above the fray has impressed the heck out of me.

I encourage you to show your support.  Mike Barwis runs an event every year.  Drop him some dough and write a letter of support and encouragement.  This man will follow RR anywhere he goes.  Character does not follow someone who doesn't have it because that wouldn't be character.

Go Blue and Merry Christmas!

BarwisMethods is proud to organize and run a charity through Keystone Community Church called Athletic Angels. The charity is for elementary age children from impoverished neighborhoods in the Detriot Metro area. We conducted a similar charity in West Virginia for approximately 5 years with great success.

During the holiday season, we will unite with as many children as financially possible at a local church. A small meal will be provided and children will be paired up with their Angels. Angels consist of professional football players and college football players from the University of Michigan. Children will then be transported via bus to a local Meijer store where they will be reunited with their Angels. The child and their Angel are allotted a specific amount of money to shop. Most of the items purchased are necessities like clothes, hats, shoes, shirts, underwear, socks, etc., and each child is allowed to also acquire 3 or 4 toys. This event is the single most rewarding portion of the year for everyone involved. There is nothing more important than touching the life of a small child, especially one in need. The glimmer and illumination in a little one’s eyes is the most wholesome light that graces this earth.

The excitement and sincere appreciation that the children express is unimaginable. They are not elated to receive an X-Box or a remote control car, instead they are excited that someone cares. Someone cares enough to help clothe them. Someone cares enough to mentor them and provide a role model. Someone cares enough to offer love, consideration and assistance in a time of need. We at BarwisMethods feel this is the single most important thing a person can do. What better place to start than with a child, who because of your kindness, may pass it on to another at a later date.

Those wishing to donate can send checks to:

Barwis Methods LLC,
2232 South Main Street #334,
Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103.

Checks should be made out to Keystone Community Church. In the memo area, please writeBarwisMethods Athletic Angels. 100% of your donated money will go directly to the children.

We thank you in advance for your love and support!!!

This article from Chris Hays at the Orlando Sentinel. It's much of the same that we've been hearing, but it does drop some quality knowledge here and there.

Florida is not the only school making a push. He had a visit from Michigan running backs coach Fred Jackson, a visit from Muschamp, who also called Hart the night before the big game, and he said he has also been in contact with Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett.

Hart said his plan is to leave for college Jan. 21, but most schools are well into spring semester by then.

One thing that will get in the way of his college entry will be the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 8, in San Antonio, Texas. Participants for the event will be in San Antonio for most of the first week of January.

The last day to register at Alabama is Jan. 19, and that school is the latest starter for spring semester among schools Hart has considered. Florida's last day to register is Jan. 11, Michigan Jan. 7 and Florida State classes start Jan. 4.

On Muschamp, HaHa, and UF

"He's a nice man," Hart said of Muschamp. "He'd been with coach (Nick) Saban for awhile so he obviously knows what he's doing. I think he'll come in and make that program what it is ... Florida's ... always been a high-ranked school so i think he'll keep it there."

Hart and Clinton-Dix will make an official visit to Gainesville sometime in January.

"That's my last one. I'm done," Hart said of the Florida visit.

TomVH (and MGoBlog) kind of a big deal

TomVH (and MGoBlog) kind of a big deal

The Detroit news ran a piece in this morning's paper about the effect of the CC on recruiting.

It's mostly the usual stuff, and doesn't contain much new info.  However, what was interesting was their choice of learned recruiting analyst:

A lot of in-state kids usually end up committing to Michigan because they're lifelong fans," said Tom VanHaaren, recruiting analyst for MGoBlog.com. "An important in-state recruit in this class, who most likely would have already committed to Michigan had the stability of the program been in order, is Anthony Zettel (West Branch Ogemaw Heights lineman). Anthony has said openly he will wait to see what happens with the coaching situation at Michigan before deciding.

There is quite a bit more from Tom in the piece.  So while I'm not sure how willing I am to share our own personal recruiting guru, it's nice to see him getting some MSM love.

Kris Frost: Silent Commit?

Kris Frost: Silent Commit?

Submitted by Logan88 on December 20th, 2010 at 8:32 AM

I just finished listening to Sam Webb's "Recruiting Roundup" on WTKA.com and he mentioned that there are a couple of kids who are silent commits to UM for the 2011 class.

Sam then received a call from "Mark from Novi" asking about the situation with Frost and Lyons. Sam's response regarding Frost was (paraphrased): "Michigan leads...BIG TIME." Sounds like Frost is a silent commit to me. Let's just hope he "sees the light" and realizes that he (and UM) will be best served playing OLB rather than WR.

Btw, while Sam's assessment of the situation with Lyons was not quite as promising (e.g. doesn't sound like a silent), he still expressed cautious optimism regarding Lyons due to 1) UM's academics and 2) Blake Countess's efforts to recruit Lyons to UM.

CC - Mortensen Harbaugh Rumor

CC - Mortensen Harbaugh Rumor

Submitted by umhero on December 20th, 2010 at 12:40 AM

More crap to add to the fire.  Chris Mortensen thinks Harbaugh wants to coach in the NFL and stay on the West Coast.

In other words, the only real way to lure Harbaugh out is to get him hired by an NFL team (or another college team). The Panthers stand out as an obvious location for both guys, because they'll need a new coach after 2010 and are likely to hold the top spot in the NFL Draft.

However, Mort notes the Panthers would need "a stroke of luck" to get Harbaugh, who apparently would prefer staying on the West Coast.

In other news, Jim's brother John says he thinks Jim wants to stay at Stanford:

"I think he wants to stay at Stanford, I think he’d love to stay there, but then again, you just have to see what happens. He’s not the kind of guy that’s going to make any kind of commitment until he’s ready to make a commitment. I think his commitment right now is having a baby and winning the Orange Bowl. So, we’ll see what happens."

Personally, I think this is much ado about nothing.  RR will be back next season.  We will win many games.  The hot seat will cool to a very comfortable temp.  RR will stay for a long time.  We will look back at this as very amusing while we count our NCs.
