This is either today's game plan or a Schembechler quote from the early 1970s:

"Take care of the football ... can't give up big plays ... secure the ball ... keep the ball inside and in front and elimate big plays ... stop the run."

The ugly uniforms are ugly.

There was a nice article in the Blade on the first Notre Dame Michigan football game which occured in 1902 in Toledo, Ohio.  Here is the link.  The article is too long to post but was an interesting read.

OT Imploring UM fans to not go "Red Cedar"

OT Imploring UM fans to not go "Red Cedar"

On the eve on yet another New Year's Day bowl game, I just wanted to post this public service announcement to Michigan fans across the globe:

While we all hope for a win tomorrow, understand the following message.  If things go south, please don't get on here and sound like the Red Cedar Message Board on Saturday night.  They sat there and ripped coaches, players and everyone in between.  It was quite comical reading actually.  The phrase "Stay Classy Ann Arbor" has to be more than a MGOSHIRT.  Al Borges is OUR offensive coordinator.  Whether you agree with every call or not, that's our guy until Brady decides that he's not.  So let's root for our team, analyze the game but by no means should we act like Red Cedar whiny [plural naughty word] if things aren't "breaking our way."

Happy New Year

The Guru

Mod edit: I'd venture a guess that a lot of the more fervent vitriol you're getting from this post was that one particular phrase. I know it's probably too late, but maybe this will help focus the future comments on the pros and cons of the entire OP. JGB.

USC loses to 6-7 Georgia Tech to finish 7-6. Silas Redd tranfers away from Penn State which turned out to be one of the biggest overachievers this year to USC which has clearly fallen the flattest I've ever seen a Preseason #1 fall.

Another record for Brady/Belichick: 1st Downs

As two major individual NFL records were pursued late this season, one broken and the other almost so, lost in the shuffle yesterday was New England shattering the record for first downs in a season at 444. [ESPN]

Yes, a lesser-known record (previously held by the 2011 Saints at 416, before that it was the 2004 Chiefs at 398), but one of the more meaningful statistics on offense, to my mind.

Click above for a great article from Wojo in today's Detroit News.  The article has several insights into what most of us already recognized as a good relationship (they're roommates, fergodsakes) between competitive friends.  It's a really nice read on the eve of Denard Robinson's Michigan swan song.

I was especially impressed by Gardner's thoughts on his transition to being U-M's main man under center for the latter part of the season:

"It sucks the way it happened, something I'd never wish for," Gardner said of Robinson's injury. "It might have been pretty hard on him, but he didn't show it. He didn't sweat anything, and he helped me a lot. That's the thing I really commend him for. Now I'm definitely prepared for it. There's enough pressure at Michigan, so to put added pressure on myself would be insane."

Go Blue, and beat the Gamecocks!  And all the best to the senior class!
