Saturday Noon Game Thread

This is an awful slate of games - I am mostly watching West Virginia v Maryland.  OSU v Kent State is really the only other one of any basic interest.

I thought this line on WVA v Maryland was strange (3) when they held in very well versus Alabama and Maryland looked like... well a Big 10 team, thus far.  West Virginia's WRs were awful vs Bama - if they could catch the ball they might have won the game.  If this was in Morgantown I'd take WVA by 17 or so.

Sounds like Maryland has benched its QB and is on QB #2.  Not sure those NFL WRs at Maryland are going to have a chance to showcase their wares this year the way things are going.

Any word on Raymon Taylor or Jabrill Peppers??

I was wondering if anyone had any news on if Raymon and Jabrill would be active today. From what I have bean reading it sounds like Miami is somewhat pass heavy and I would be surprised if they tried to run much against us with our front 7. I feel like with one or both of those guys healthy Michigan will run away with this game early. If not they may be able to hang around for a while and make my Saturday afternoon a bit more stressful than it needs to be. Any thought or news on jury's today? How do you think our DBs will hold up today?

Had to start this because it's hurting me listening to Corso and Herbie try to analyze Michigan. Both are trying to talk about Michigan recruiting poorly especially at the skill positions....where we only have 2 5* backs on the roster and a WR destined for the first round.

I plan to write another From the Student Section diary for tomorrow's game, so if there are any aspects of the student experience people want some commentary on, I'd love to hear about them so I can keep eyes/ears open at the game.

As a reward for feedback/ideas, here's a dancing Kermit:

Game Day Weather

Game Day Weather

Submitted by mgoweather on September 12th, 2014 at 11:14 PM

Short & sweet today because I'm doing it from my phone thanks to being in the middle of moving! An upper level disturbance will move out of the Great Lakes Saturday, bringing some morning showers & clouds before more later-day sun as high pressure moves in. Chilly all day with temps staying a good ten degrees below normal, & a bit breezy. Really Mother Nature, seriously? It's September!

If you're up real early you may see some rain! (icymi -Because of the rain there are restrictions on tailgating at the golf course) Temps will hover right around 50 degrees early on around sunrise. Overcast skies with a couple sprinkles will be what we wake up to, with winds out of the north at about 8mph. Heading into mid-morning and early afternoon, we see a little decrease in the cloud cover. That'll help us get into the mid 50s for lunch, but winds will pick up too. Tie down the tent! Winds will be out of the NNW at steady 17mph, and gusts possible to 30mph (branches will sway, empty garbage cans may tip over).

Still hanging on to some clouds by the time we reach kick-off, and sitting at 61 degrees. Winds will start to drop, and although they will remain out of the NNW we'll mainly get rid of the gusts and steady winds are around 13mph.

Temps stay steady through the end of the first half, and seeing some sun between those clouds. Winds are down to 10mph, out of the NW. The temperature will drop during the second half so you may want to have the extra layer handy!

Still keeping some clouds in the sky to end the game, with a light NNW wind. We'll drop to 55 degrees, and enjoy it- as the cloud cover goes down, the temperature will fall quickly. We'll be in the mid 40s for the late night, and if you'll be out for last call, expect to walk out the door and be hit with 42 degrees! Go Blue!!

Cincinnati up 27-0 on Toledo right now on ESPNU. Gunner Kiel is playing for Cincy.

UC is forced to play at the Bengals' stadium and they actually filled the place up!

Baylor at Buffalo on ESPN at 8pm.

That should be ugly.

Why in the world do Power 5 conference teams agree to play on the road at MAC schools?

Rules for cameras in Michigan Stadium

Rules for cameras in Michigan Stadium

Does anyone have recent experience bringing a DSLR camera into Michigan Stadium?  The current rule on the mgoblue web site is:

"Single-frame flash photography is allowed, however, cameras with lenses longer than six inches will not be allowed into the stadium. All forms of video and motion-picture cameras are strictly prohibited. Guests are also forbidden to use lighting or camera support pods at Michigan Stadium."

My camera lens is shorter than 6 inches, but the camera and lens together is slightly longer.  Does anyone actually measure this?  Or do they just say no if you have an SLR?  I really want to take pictures as my son is in the ROTC color guard for the game.

OT - Jayru Campbell Arrested...Again

OT - Jayru Campbell Arrested...Again

I'm sure many of you remember the story of Cass Tech QB Jayru Campbell. For those of you who do not, here is a refresher: Jayru was a one time Michigan target (never offered but I believe he visited a couple times) and Michigan State commit who was sent to jail earlier this year after body slamming a security guard at his school.

Per a tweet from The D Zone (they follow HS players in MI) today at 4pm EDT, Jayru Campbell was released from prison this afternoon.

Per a tweet from The D Zone at 6pm EDT Jayru Campbell has been arrested again.

At first I thought I had read a tweet from months ago. I did not. Apparently, and amazingly enough given the NFL news this week, Jayru has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend. The story is still developing, but here is a link to the breaking story on Channel 4 News Detroit:…

He is most certainly not going to receive an offer to play for a D1 school any longer, which is a shame, as he had a lot of potential. Hopefully he can get himself the help he needs. There is no excuse for assaulting someone you supposedly love.

OT - And Now Adrian Peterson in Trouble

OT - And Now Adrian Peterson in Trouble

Well both Deadspin and TMZ reporting AP is in trouble so in today's day and age these are actually quite legitimate sites for breaking news.  Sounds like he hit his 11 year son with a switch. TMZ with the more inflammotry "child abuse" headline of course.

Fun times at NFL HQ.

Prepare for the litany of social media backlash... "back in my day a good switching was fine..."

Minnesota Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson has been indicted for child abuse in North Montgomery County, TX ... TMZ Sports has learned.   Sources connected to Peterson tell us ... the alleged victim is a male child from Minnesota who was visiting Adrian back in May at AP's home in Texas.

We're told the child returned home to his mother in Minn. who noticed injuries and took the child to a doctor. A short time later, the doctor contacted authorities in Texas to report Adrian.

Child Protective Services confirms they are working on a case involving Peterson and say the alleged victim is an 11-year-old boy.

Peterson was indicted in Montgomery County for reckless or negligent injury to a child, this according to MyFOX Houston 26.

Jay Glazer adds that Peterson has been cooperating with law enforcement, and will now have to turn himself in to authorities. Rapaport notes that Peterson testified before a grand jury weeks ago.
