Do we have a QB for next year?

Submitted by wolverine1987 on September 27th, 2014 at 6:12 PM

Yes, we are all about to write off this year, with anything over 7-5 taking a miracle at this point. But we've all thought next year was the year: in would step a third year Shane Morris with a veteran team surrounding him. Now, it's hard to watch Morris and even think he has any potential to be a very good QB at all. Yes, he's a soph, but what potential outside of a strong arm has he shown? Perhaps I'm being too gloomy given this awful day, but to me, our QB situation for next year and the year after looks dire indeed.

Best and Worst Scenarios

Best and Worst Scenarios

Best possible scenario: Morris starts and performs well.  He gets better each game and UM wins 6-7 BIG games.  The record is OK, but the team shows hope for next year.

Worst possible scenario:  Morris performs poorly. He is replaced with Gardner after a game or two and UM wins 3-4 BIG games.  The record is terrible and there is no hope for next year.

Let's hope for the best.

It's a gorgeous day for tailgating, probably the best of the year, but due to family and financial obligations I won't be at the game today, or any other Michigan games this season.  I feel like the kid that's stuck inside while all his friends are out playing ball.

Help a fellow Wolverine out!  Please post your tailgating/pre-gaming pictures, videos, observations, stories, etc. throughout the day here.  Everything is of interest . . . walking around campus, Ann Arbor, tailgating, pre-gaming, the frat/sorority scenes, the band show, walking to the stadium with the crowd . . . the whole experience.

I need to live vicariously through you guys lucky enough to be tailgating/pre-gaming today!

(BTW, whatever happened to Pre-gaming with Pat?)

Not much out there on the slate that pops out - probably the most interesting game is Maryland at Indiana but it has a weird time slot at 1:30 PM.  If Tenn is improved their game vs Georgia might be worth a whirl

Wyoming visits Spartans

South Florida vs Wiscy

Tulane v Rutgers

Tennessee v Georgia

Northwestern v PSU

Iowa v Purdue

Vandy v Kentucky

Stephen M Ross Backs Dave Brandon

Stephen M Ross Backs Dave Brandon

Well, for those of us wondering how Stephen Ross feels about Dave Brandon and the AD, I think we have our answer, though it's not what most of us hoped for:

"He's probably the most qualified athletic director in the country. I think he's terrific," said billionaire real estate developer Stephen Ross, a UM alumnus who has given the university $310 million in recent years. "I wouldn't have given my gift to the athletic department if I didn't believe in Dave."

Another interesting takeaway from this article that seems to contradict what other recent reports have suggested:

A source within the university, who agreed to speak only on the condition of anonymity, said concerns about Brandon and UM athletics are a talking point, but little else at this point.

"There's no movement to push Brandon out," the source said, who noted that any change would go through the university president, to whom the athletic director reports, and would be a long-term process rather than a sudden dismissal.

Cato and Todd are both high school coaches now so their perspective tends to make a good counterbalance to us bloggers--they mostly talk about problems that are coachable versus those that aren't, which we can't really tell you.

They love Jourdan Lewis and his aggressive play. Turnover ratio is turnover ratio--they think it's carelessness.

Game Day Weather

Game Day Weather

Submitted by mgoweather on September 27th, 2014 at 8:47 AM

After getting nailed with the only rain shower in SE Michigan to start the game, and then getting slammed with storms, last week - who's ready for a picture perfect game day?! :D High pressure over the Great Lakes region will give us a continuation of what we've seen the past week - great weather. An absolutely beautiful Saturday with plenty of sunshine and above normal temps! Let's keep the jug at home!

Tailgating

Some fog early this morning - locally dense, it'll reduce visibility in spots to a quarter mile. Look for it to completely burn off approaching 9am. Plenty of blue skies throughout the morning with calm winds. Temps will be chilly to start, in the mid 40s, but will jump quickly after sunrise - mid 50s by mid-morning, and 70 for lunch. The afternoon will bring a light easterly wind at about 5mph (just enough to rustle a few leaves and feel the wind on your skin). We'll hit mid 70s in the early afternoon. It's an absolutely gorgeous day for tailgating! Pack the cooler full of ice for the cold ones and bring out all the fun games!

Kickoff

B-E-A-U-tiful start to the game! Upper 70s, and hitting 78 shouldn't be too hard. An east wind at 5-7mph - very light. Even though we're officially in fall, it's going to feel a lot more like summer! Tons of sunshine in store for A2 today. Keep in mind, although we're in late September, we'll still hit moderate levels of UV, so you may want to put some sunscreen on!

Halftime

Probably grabbing a water by now! Hot is the word of the day if you're just sitting in the sun! We'll start to see just a few fair weather clouds pop up, and we'll keep the wind right at 6-7mph out of the ESE.

Post-Game

Low 70s as you're walking out of the game (proudly after a win!), and we're set for a mild evening if you're headed out to celebrate - hopefully at the Jug, but even some outdoor areas shouldn't be too chilly! Temperatures will fall through the 60s throughout the evening. A few clouds stay with us into the late night, with winds turning calm again and temps dropping to the mid 50s into the late night. Staying out late? You may want to grab a sweatshirt - with those mostly clear skies temps will be near 50. C'mon blue!

All,

I just moved into a new home and I don't yet have cable.  I wanted to know if anyone could steer me toward the best web site to stream sports.  I tried this Thursday night but I think I picked a bad one because it kept asking me to update my media players and also downloaded a bunch of crap onto my computer.  I had to do some major cleanup afterwards.  Anyone know of a good safe place to stream today's game or games in the future?
