And now the ACC is bitching too about lack of respect

Yesterday, someone posted a topic about how the SEC is complaining about lack of respect and lack of bids.

Now, the great ACC is doing exactly the same thing:

Although, IMHO, Virginia has some valid basis to complain, it's ironic that the "BCS" conferences seem to draw from their football status an almost birthright to basketball respect too.

I haven't seen this anywhere on the board yet and I figured this would make for a mildly interesting/amusing/soul-crushing first post:

Quotes:

Back in the spring of 2011, at the height of realignment uncertainty, ESPN tried to lock down the Big East... ESPN offered what was later reported to be a nine-year deal, worth $1.17 billion. That would have come out to about $130 million a year, top tier money but still behind the power conferences.

And then, the killing blow:

Today made official what had been reported last month: ESPN matched NBC Sports Network's offer, and locked down the Big East until 2020 for $126 million. That'd be seven years, at $18 million per. That's 14 percent of the annual payouts on the table two years ago, but who's counting?

Talk about picking up the table scraps... Ouch.

Hopefully this has not been made into a topic yet but I was wondering who you all had as some of your sleeper picks, a double digit seed who could make a run, or a high seed destined for an upset.  That is if you don't mind sharing some of your knowledge with others.

I have Minnesota reaching the Sweet 16 because I think that UCLA/Pac 12 is overrated and Florida is a team so many people are in love with.  I have Wisconsin reaching the Elite 8 since I think Gonzaga is garbage and Belmont over Zona' including others.

Where does everyone have Michigan, I want to pick them over Kansas so bad but I promised myself after the Indiana game that I would pick with my head and not my heart with this team after their inconsistent play of late.

When discussing SDSU THJ admits that we won't see another let down like last year because Michigan isn't taking anything lightly like they did last year Link a> Figured it was somewhat already known but its been a slow day I'm too anxious form Thursday at 7:15PM to be here.

OT: SEC Basketball Complaining about Being Treated Like Mid-Major Conference

OT: SEC Basketball Complaining about Being Treated Like Mid-Major Conference

The SEC basketball coaches are bitching about being treated like a mid-major conference after playing like one:

Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin predicted two weeks ago that the SEC would earn six bids.

Martin said the SEC's three bids were an ''embarrassment'' after the brackets were revealed, and he didn't back down from those comments Monday. He said Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama are ''NCAA tournament teams'' that landed in the NIT.

''It's almost like a mid-major mentality in this league, when you've got your second-place team that doesn't get in the NCAA tournament,'' Martin said. ''This is a BCS league. It's one of the best leagues in America. That shouldn't happen.''

The SEC's non-conference performance indicates it actually wasn't one of the best leagues in the nation this season.

As the article goes on to point out, the SEC had losing records against all BCS conferences and performed worse than two mid-major conferences.

Title says it all. Congrats to Trey!

Burke becomes Michigan's first national player of the year since Cazzie Russell was named NCAA Player of the Year in 1966.

The sophomore was also named to SI's five-man All-America team, joining Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart, Creighton's Doug McDermott, Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk and Indiana's Cody Zeller.

We've heard plenty about Trey Burke this year, but I loved the angle of this story. Daily guy Everett Cook sat with Benji Burke and his friends at a bar in Columbus during the Penn State game. (Yeah, not a great draw.) But this piece puts the relationship between father and son really, really nicely.

To everyone but Benji, Trey is Michigan’s star sophomore, the best point guard and one of the best overall players in the country. He’s the most important player on a Michigan squad that is widely considered to be a fringe top-20 team without him.

But to Benji, Trey is his project and his lineage, a lifeline to a game he loves more than just about anything and a growing reminder of what it means to raise a son and not his former player.

And for the first time since Benji coached Trey in basketball — which he did for most of his son’s life in AAU — their relationship has settled.

OT: The 68 "Coolest" People to Attend the Tournament Schools

SI created a list of the coolest people ever to attend the 68 schools in this years tournament. Some interesting people on the list for sure. Who knew that Bob Gibson HOF pitcher for the Cardinals played basketball at Creighton, or the Big Show from WWE fame played basketball at Wichita State?

Anyways it has Madonna as our "coolest" but I think that is very debatable.

Who do you think is the coolest person to attend, not necessarily graduate from Michigan is?

My choice has to be James Earl Jones or Gilda Radner outside of athletes that played here.

NCAA Tourney Bracket Fill-In

Didn't see a link to a bracket so far on this site, so I thought I'd post one. If March Madness is your thing, you can fill in a bracket of how you think the tourney will go, either by printing it out or filling it online.

I'm using the nbcsports one:

Hope that helps!
