Michigan game moved to 9:45

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on November 24th, 2014 at 5:53 PM

It was already going around Twitter that Michigan's game would be at 9:30 instead of the listed time of 9pm, due to the VCU-Villanova game starting at 7pm.

It appears it may be a 9:45 tip. Or even later than that perhaps.

Tip time moved to 7.15 due to lateness of ESPN 2 game. #legendsclassic

Tomorrow, Novemeber 25th, GR3 will be doing an AMA (ask me anything, basically a Q&A) on Reddit's basketball subreddit r/NBA. It will be a cool chance to see from him how he's doing post-Michigan. They haven't announced a time so if you're interested just check periodically through the day, it will be stickied at the top of the subreddit so it will be easy to find.

Women's Basketball Update

Women's Basketball Update

Submitted by modabomb on November 23rd, 2014 at 4:53 PM

Today, the Women's basketball team beat the Western Michigan Broncos in Crisler, 74-47. Some highlights:

Katelyn Flaherty led the Wolverines in scoring with 18 points on 8-13 shooting. She hit shots from all over the floor, also going 2-5 from behind the arc.

Shannon Smith sniffed a triple double, with 7 pts 9 reb and 7 ast. Most of her assists came in transition, after WMU was stymied by Michigan's 2-3 zone.

Cyesha Goree was all-around dominant, with 14 points and 14 boards on 6-9 shooting. She could have had even gaudier numbers had she not been pulled with about 5 minutes to go.

The women's team could be one to look out for this year, as their 5 freshmen (Flaherty included) compose the best recruiting class in program history (no. 23 in the nation), and they return almost all of their main contributors from last year's NIT run. Today's win brought them to 3-1 on the season, and after today they are shooting about 43% from behind the arc on the year- I guess long distance shooting isn't just exclusive to the men.

Just a quick update, in case y'all needed something to brighten an otherwise dismal sports weekend.

Not OT: Cal Beats Syracuse

Not OT: Cal Beats Syracuse

Cal just beat Syracuse by 14 points and SMU lost to IU earlier by 6. Michigans schedule just lost 2 ranked teams in a few hours. This makes me feel much better about the next 10 games. In the end you have to win your games but does this make those to games must wins especially since their at home. Discuss

Not OT: Villanova escapes Bucknell

Not OT: Villanova escapes Bucknell

#12 Villanova just squeaked by Bucknell at home.

Hass went off again, with over 30 points for Bucknell. Bucknell was hosed quite a bit near the end by the refs.

Bucknell took the lead off a 3 with under minute left. Bucknell "fouled" Villanova, tying it at 65. On Bucknell's next possession, they lost it out of bounds and that was that.

Pretty interesting that the team Michigan absolutely slaughtered gave #12 Villanova all they could handle, at Villanova.

This is not OT, because Michigan may play Villanova next Tuesday in the Legends Classic.

Each Legends Classic team that's going to Brooklyn struggled with a mid-major.

  • Michigan with Detroit
  • Oregon with Detroit
  • VCU with Toledo
  • Villanova with Bucknell

Oregon still has a game left in their regional bracket against Toledo tomorrow night. Here's all the results thus far from the entire Legends Classic field in case you don't have the bracket printed/haven't seen it-

Michigan 77 Bucknell 53
Villanova 81 UMES 44
Oregon 83 Detroit 66

VCU 87 Toledo 78

Michigan 71 Detroit 62
VCU 106 UMES 66
Villanova 72 Bucknell 65

OT? Jon Horford playing well for Florida.

I haven't seen any Jon Horford updates so I thought I'd look into how he is doing at Florida. It looks like Jon is the starting center and averaging 14 points and 6 boards in two games so far this year. On monday #8 Florida was upset by Miami (YTM), but Jon had 17 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks.

It's sad to see him playing for Florida knowing we could have used him this year, but glad he is at least starting and looking to have a good year. I wish him all the best and hope he makes it to the next level.

Carlton Brundidge and Juwan Howard Jr. Come To Visit

Carlton Brundidge and Juwan Howard Jr. Come To Visit

Brendan Quinn put up a nice ARTICLE on Carlton Brundidge's return to his prior home court, and Juwan Howard Jr.'s visit to his father's old stomping grounds.  Both players relished a career at Michigan, but Brundidge wanted immediate playing time (he was well-regarded out of h.s.) and Howard Jr. was not quite skilled enough in h.s. to merit a UofM scholarship.

It sounds like Brundidge has really matured well, and Howard comes off well in the article too.  Their presence certainly adds a nice element to the UofD Mercy game.  I wish these kids the best, and wish things had worked out better for Brundidge during his time with Michigan.
