I think we all were a little worried early on with some truly dissapointing basketball. When you pair that with an abysmal last season and losing out on some big name recruits, it would be easy to express concern over the direction of the program.

But after the recent blowout wins (albeit against the most garbage of teams) and solid play overall from out most important contributers, I think we should start feeling good about this team. We may not be elite this season, but we are definitley a tournament team that has really turned things around in a short period of time as we assemble a solid resume.

Quality Wins:

  • Texas (8-3 with notable victories over now #7 UNC, and @Stanford)
  • @NCST (9-3 victory over potential #1 pick Ben Simmons and LSU)

Blowout Wins:

  • YSU 59 pt win
  • UNCC 55 pt win
  • DSU 47 pt win

Quality Losses:

  • #6 Xavier (12-0)
  • #18 SMU (11-0)
  • UConn (Currently 8-3 with losses to 9-3 SYR, 10-3 Gonzaga, and #4 Maryland)

Key Performers:

  • Caris Levert 17.3 pt, 5.4 rb, 4.8 a, 1.2 st, FG% .503
  • Duncan Robinson 12.5 pt, FG% .574, 3PT% .595
  • Derrick Walton 10.4pt, 4.7rb, 4.3a, 1.8st, FG% .485, 3PT% .528

On Aug. 4, 2014, he sent Robinson a text, telling him he'd be calling in about 20 minutes. Robinson was home at the time, hanging out with a group of friends and family. They all gathered around in the background when Beilein called.

As Robinson remembers it, Beilein left him hanging for a little bit, telling him that he loved the way he played, that he would fit Michigan well and that the coach indeed was interested before adding the kicker: Beilein was offering a scholarship.

"When I hung up the phone and told everyone it was a scholarship, the room erupted," Robinson said.

This story in the Chicago Tribune makes it sound like Spike plans on rehabbing this year then tranferring to play out his eligibility. His father is quoted in the article: "Based on what the doctors have told us," said Spike's dad, Charles Albrecht, "I think he'll play." I don't want to live in a world where Spike plays college basketball someplace other than Ann Arbor. Say, it ain't so, Spike. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/sports/ct-ptb-mike-h…

Spike eligible for redshirt and 5th year

Spike eligible for redshirt and 5th year

According to the News, Spike Albrecht is eligible for a redshirt this year, and a 5th year in the 2016 - 2017 season, if he and Beilein mutually desire.

LINK:  So you're saying there's a chance?

This tidbit is buried well below the lede, which focuses on incoming recruits Xavier Simpson and Austin Davis.

Beilein continues to leave the door slightly cracked for a possible return. Albrecht, who had two hip surgeries this spring, remains on scholarship and could actually get another year of eligibility — because he remains just under the 30-percent threshold of games played this season. "I don't think he plans on that," Beilein said. "That's gonna be up to Spike." There's been no actual discussion yet between the two. If UM were to get Albrecht on the floor for even a second on Senior Day, March 5, against Iowa at Crisler Center, he would burn that extra year of eligibility.

It's an intriguing thought. Don't know what Spike has in mind. But if I felt better after rehab, the team was trending up, Beilein would allow it and there was room, and I had another free year of classes, room and board, etc., it'd be very tempting. Unless Spike has grad school lined up, or a clear job path, this looks like a great opportunity. We'll see.

Full game is up for those who missed it. Take aways from the game: Walton is back and looks healthy. Donnal is not soo bad he had a nice game probably best of his career. Beilein continues to find and DEVELOP players that nobody else even looks at in Caris Levert and Duncan Robison. Caris scored his 1000th career pt at Michigan and became only 4th player with a triple double in Michigan histroy. 2 of those players have now played for Beilein. Duncan is playing his first season as a D1 player and he is second on the team in pts/game with 12.4!! Enjoy GO BLUE!!
