U-M to host Fab Five meeting on 10/8

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on September 22nd, 2016 at 8:52 PM

Sounds like there's gonna be a town hall of sorts at Hill Auditorium on the 10/8.

The day of a football game. And hockey game.......

Rose, King and Jackson will be on-hand for the event. They'll be joined by U-M professor Yago Colás, University of Houston Professor Billy Hawkins and journalist Kevin Blackistone.

Webber, who has long been dissociated from both the Fab Five and the university, and Howard, who will be in the midst of the NBA preseason as an assistant coach with the Miami Heat, will not partake in the reunion.

The discussion was originally organized by King, who currently lives in Southfield, and Colás, a writer and commentator on social issues surrounding collegiate athletics.

"The aim of this is really to have a discussion — an open, public discussion," Colás told MLive in April when the forum was being sorted out. "It seems to me, from the beginning, that whatever happens with the banners, it should be the result of an informed, broad, transparent public debate and discussion about the different issues at play."

The forum will be free and open to the public. Hill Auditorium holds roughly 3,500 spectators.

According to Thursday's press release: "Panelists will discuss this seminal moment in the University's history -- including the players' cultural impact and the controversy that later emerged."

The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer with the audience.

Members of the Fab Five were most recently together in early August for the first-ever Fab Five Basketball Camp. Also organized by King, the three-day camp included appearances from Rose, Howard and Jackson.

While the forum in October is being sponsored by the university, it will have no formal say in what the athletic department does or does not do regarding the Fab Five, its recognition within the university or its banners, which we previously removed from Crisler Center.

According to Yahoo Sports, it doesn't appear to be a second violation, but rather failure to comply with procedural guidlines set forth in the progam.

Doesn't look good for Mitch.  It's the last year of his contract and his minutes/stats are decreasing

EDIT: Mlive is garbage and doesn't want to link properly for me.  Take my word.

Reminder: Make Your Picks in Yahoo Pick 'em League (Deadline is 5 PM EDT)

The spreads are up but may still move tomorrow so beware of this if you put your picks in tonight.  Also, this league does use confidence points so don't forget to assign those as that will kill your score.

In addition, the league filled up very quickly this year and a few people asked in a thread last week about expanding the league and unfortunately this can't be done or I just can't figure out how to do it.  However, in the past about 30 percent of the people that sign up to play end up not doing so, so I'll post a few more reminders in the next few days to get your picks in and if I need to boot a few people on friday night to open up some spots for people that want to get in I will.  So......................

Good Luck and Go Blue!!

EDIT: The final spreads are posted friday morning and there are a few games friday night so I'll have to move the deadline to 5pm and the warning above has been changed to reflect this update.

Cool Story, Bro! Just saw Juwan Howard

Cool Story, Bro! Just saw Juwan Howard

Was just heading to Lone Wolf(bar) on Randolph street here in Chicago and who do I see waiting out front of the famously long wait Au Cheval? Our very own Mr. Juwan Howard. He was wearing Michigan basketball shorts and some M themed Jumpman shoes I believe. Maybe he just worked out and needed that famous Au Cheval burger for post workout fuel. Anyhow. No photo. Just shouted Go Blue! and he happily returned it back. Made my day, one of my childhood idols. Also might be slightly drunk. Cool story bro. I know. This thread is dedicated to Magnus and Mr. Yost. May one of you or both be unhappy with it.

Slight drops for Poole and Livers to #58 and #76, respectively. Also of note, unfortunately, Kris Wilkes drops us recently from his top 5. Down to Brian Bowen and Jaren Jackson as only "bluechip" possibilities

OT: Am I a Bad American if I Root for Coach K to Lose?

OT: Am I a Bad American if I Root for Coach K to Lose?

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on August 11th, 2016 at 1:34 PM

OK, I'm as American as apple pie, and I've been rooting for every single one of our athletes and teams to win in Rio ... but when we started having problems in basketball against Australia yesterday, a big part of me was thinking, "You know, I'd be OK if Coach K lost this."

If that makes me a bad American, then so ahead and neg me. But I just hate that guy so much, and I hate that I have to root for a team that he's coaching to win. I felt this same way when Kelly Tripucka and Christian Laettner played for the Pistons.

Anybody with me on this?
