Basketball minutes breakdown

Player MPG
Derrick Walton, Jr. 31.8
Zak Irvin 32.0
MAAR 29.5
DJ Wilson 30.0
Mark Donnal 22.0
Moe Wagner 15.5
Duncan Robinson 16.0
Xavier Simpson 10.3

Before the basketball season starts, the MGoBoard has posts about minutes per game breakdowns. Four games into the season, I think it's interesting to see how Beilein is allocating the minutes. Fortunately, MGoBlue.com has made this easy for all of us.

I left Ibi off the list. He's at 6.8 mpg. The rest of the roster is at 6.3 mpg cumulative. I think those 13 minutes will get allocated to the 8 players above when we get into Big 10 play. I'd like to see DW2 and Zak stay at 32 MPG. MAAR and DJ at 30 seems reasonable. I think Moe and Donnal will split the 5 minutes equally at 20/20. Moe may flip the above numbers in his favor, but he's not going to get north of 25 MPG due to fouls and occasional defensive hiccups.

So that's 11 more minutes to distribue. I think those go to Duncan and Xavier. What's been really interesting so far is it looks like Zak's minutes are exclusively at the 2 or 3 (probably not much difference between the two.) I say that because there have been lineups with a center, DJ, Duncan, Irvin, and Derrick. Who is the 2 in that lineup, Duncan or Zak? Again, probably doesn't matter. I just love seeing an actual 4 play the 4.

Yes, you read that correctly.

After Michigan went down 6-0 to start the game, they went on a 52-0 run to take a 52-6 lead. It eventually got to a 64-13 lead.

The Wolverines led 84-25 after 3 quarters (women's game does 4 quarters instead of 2 halves).

Katelynn Flaherty had 24 points. She's an All-American candidate.

All-world freshman star Kysre Gondrezick had 22. She does not play like a freshman, at all. The hype about her is certainly justified. Incredible speed and ability to cut to the basket.

Michigan beat Howard 109-41, their third straight game of scoring 100 or more. That's only been done 14 times in program history, and 3 of them have come in the first 3 games of this young 2016-17 season.

Michigan (3-0) will host WMU next on Monday night at 7pm.

Michigan Basketball: Revised Expectations?

Michigan Basketball: Revised Expectations?

MBB put up two of the most dominant performances since 2013 and 2014. This looks like a complete team: the typically efficient Beilein offense; solid and very active defense; good on the glass; the bigs are a plus unit. This looks like a Top 20 basketball team this year, at least based on this weekend. How did the last two nights change your expectations for the season? I think this team will contend for a Big Ten championship.

Michigan v Marquette

Michigan v Marquette

My fellow M go basketball fans, looking forward to this one? I really don't know a ton about Marquette this year, but both teams are 2-0. Game is at MSG.

Marquette has had a strong knack recently of being a very average Big East team, but are coming off a pretty solid season last year. They have one guy at 6-11, after that they are about as short as Michigan.
