So, my brother-in-law is currently teaching in Chengdu, China. Somewhat recently, he went to what appeared to be a semi-pro-ish football game with a couple friends. In his words...
First of all, there were maybe 50 people there in a soccer stadium that probably sat 10,000. Before the game, they asked one of my buddies if he wanted to help ref (since one of the refs didn't show), soley based on the fact that he was a white dude (which, in their opinion, obviously meant he was an American that was knowledgeable in the rules of football). Also, there was a GIANT dude on the team. I think somebody said he went to Michigan. Marques something? Here's a pic.
The legend continues.
In the most recent update on the Bracket Matrix (1/30), Michigan is currently one of the last 4 in the field as an 11 seed.
ESPN, CBS, and SI all have Michigan as one of their last 4 teams in the field as well.
Obviously, the next 7 days are critical for the team. 2-0 against OSU and MSU could give us a little bit of breathing room going into the last 7 conference games. 1-1 likely leaves Michigan in a similar position as they are today. 0-2 means we're probably finished.
Other notes from the Bracket Matrix:
- The B1G gets 8 teams in the field, with one team occupying each seed line from 4-11.
-Wisconsin is a 4 seed, Maryland a 5 seed, Purdue a 6 seed, NW a 7 seed, Minnesota an 8 seed, IU a 9 seed, and MSU is a 10 seed.
-Not sure why Minnesota is so comfortably in the tournament right now; they are 3-6 in the conference and in absolute freefall, having lost 5 straight.
Irvin had the flu.
Was last game merely a fluke?
With 6 days off before the next game--a home game--against a terrible osu team, that game is now must-win if we even want to make the NIT much less the NCAA Tournament.
Time to beat MSU in their only good sport and make them a quidditch school.
The win that turned around the 2010-11 season (we had been 11-9 overall and 1-6 in B1G play entering the game). Over the next 3 1/2 years we were the best team in the conference.
