Soccer Superstar Cites UM MBB as example for Spain in World Cup

Now here is a strange tie-in, but it works.

If you didn't hear, yesterday Spain FIRED their coach on the veritable eve of the World Cup.  They are one of the top 4 contenders, filled with tons of talent.  They were embarrassed at the last WC (lost the first game 5-1, didn't make it out of the group), and are looking to not only redeem themselves but possibly win it again.  But now, they are using an interim coach.  Their coach was fired because he had the audacity to take another gig for after the WC ends -- frankly, the best gig on the planet, Real Madrid.

Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman has been sidelined by a foot injury while preparing for a professional career.  He was working out on his own, getting ready for the upcoming  draft, landed wrong, and broke a bone in his foot, which required surgery.

He's got 3 to 4 months before he can return to basketball activities.

Unbelieveably inspiring story about this young man who endured losing his mother at the age of 7, growing up with an alcoholic father, and overcoming homelessness on his way to gaining admission to Michigan's Nursing school and competing for a walk-on spot this coming year.

Just read the damn article.

The guy looks ready to be a major contributor from day 1.  He can shoot, he can create his own shots, and he's shown he can drive and dish  Next years team is going to have a lot of depth, and a lot of versatility.  Glad Coach B is coming back, so we can see him work his magic.

Translation: A new year will be automatically be added to his contract annually in addition to a two year extension currently being made thru 2023. Sounds like a lifer to me. Doesn't look like asked us to break the bank either. His salary will probably only go up to $4 million according to this report

3 UM Basketball Prospects on U18 Men's National Team

3 UM Basketball Prospects on U18 Men's National Team

The U18 Men's National Baskeball Team has 18 finalists. Three of them are Michigan prospects:

  • Keion Brooks
  • DJ Carton
  • Mark Watts

That's a very high proportion of the U18 team. Carton and Brooks are top 30 guys, and Watts isn't far behind at #51. Future is bright! (As long as Beilein stays in Ann Arbor.)

Of course there is a long way to go yet. But with Jalen Wilson already committed, and Michigan in a good position with all three of the above kids, this is a good thing. Should the Wolverines get Wilson and Carton, and any one of Brooks, Watts, and McDaniels, that would be the best back-to-back classes ever under Beilein.
