Dumb move by Fanatics…

Dumb move by Fanatics. Should have tried to settle out of court at a fraction of the value.

This ruins their reputation going forward on future NIL deals with athletes.  Indeed, they need to draw a line somewhere and set a precedent on fulfilling obligations, but they only have leverage while still paying the athlete, not once he is in the league making high 8 figures + endorsement deals. I could see many high profile CFB players avoiding Fanatics after this.

Also, they run the risk of getting shot in the face by Harrison SR.

On a side note, there is a business case to be made here for aligning NIL offers with NOT the most high profile athletes in CFB as they are making so much $ already and in positioned to achieve generational wealth once drafted - such that they may be less likely to fulfill the terms of a given contract. MHJ may be the unicorn case and total outlier here in that his father already has generational wealth…and may shoot you in your face.

Mason Graham + Will Johnson…

Mason Graham + Will Johnson

If Rod Moore did not get injured (sigh), I think this year’s defense would have been even better than last great.  Less depth and no Mikey, but have some top end talent reaching their collegiate peak expected output.

Losing Sanb and Wallet to portal also blows

Seems like he’s kind of…

Seems like he’s kind of lukewarm on the whole football thing tbh.

Yeah agree on the vision -…

Yeah agree on the vision - but part of that is also setting up the blocks and flow of the linebackers behind them - Corum is a master of this.

Edwards first TD against Washington was ironically set up because of his missing the read, running into a stacked box, which pulled in all the defenders, and then he bursted outside. If he could do more of that, like on purpose, would be sweet.

Nah.I love Gus when we're…

Nah.

I love Gus when we're winning.  They hyperbolic shit is awesome imo when it's our team getting the love.

It's brutal when losing a game, like the MSU 2021 game when Mel Tugger was still a serious human / coach.

bUT thEY CHeAteD!!!!

OSU couldn't tackle Edwards because of Michigan's clairvoyance to run power up the middle two drives in a row in 22, as they were simply trying to bleed the clock.

Assuming Ryan Day will call…

Assuming Ryan Day will call for an investigation now.

On a serious note, am I nuts to think that Mullings may end up being a better every down back next year as they split carries?

Edwards obviously has been a big game player, an amazing home run threat, and is an incredible slot receiver as well, but Mullings seems to run angry and feels like Haskins 2.0.  I think Edwards almost undoubtedly is a better NFL prospect given what the league is looking for these days, but I really wouldn't be surprised to see Mullings as a more productive down to down back in our offense next year.

Is that you Mel?

Is that you Mel?

Totally agree.  Perhaps…

Totally agree.  Perhaps Trente just wants to walk away from football rn and needs time to work through his current struggles.  Either way, the UM community and football program should be there for him.

That said, as someone who has had struggles with mental health, one of the best ways out of the darkness is being part of something - a job, a community, a family, etc.  Being busy and feeling productive and appreciated help heal the soul and ease the mind - hence, would be nice if an assistant gig is available if he so wishes.

His perspective, as he improves, as a young guy that just finished playing the position as well as a mentor and "trusted agent" for other young men struggling would be an invaluable resource for any program.

Sucks, but his own doing…

Come on down Trente.  Let him get the support he needs and start as an OL assistant coach if he wishes.

Love Trente.  Team first guy. National champ!

From his interviews always seemed like a gaming nerd - like many of us - trapped in a football player body - unlike most of us.

Hope he finds his path.

Defensive lines win…

Defensive lines win championships. UM still has the best defensive line in CFB. Only concern is the depth, as we probably go 6 deep this year instead of 8 like last year.  McGregor probably could have stuck around for another year tbh.

Rod Moore is a huge loss, he was the QB of the back 6-7. Sucks Sabb left before the Moore injury, as maybe he sticks around otherwise.

That said, the talent and knowledge is there, and Graham and Grant are the best interior d-line duo in the country.

Had JJ returned and Moore not gotten injured, UM probably opens as the national title favorite or #2 behind UGA.

Don’t worry Chuck.  Despite…

Don’t worry Chuck.  Despite the Avengers roster , as OSU has had multiple times over the past 2 decades, they’ll break your heart once again.

Nobody underachieves in the biggest moments over the past 20 years quite like OSU.

Recruit like Bama, achieve like Auburn.

They’ll choke again.  Not beating UGA with that O-line and qb play.  Congrats on all the 5* receivers though.

No idea what the future of…

No idea what the future of NCAA football, basketball and sports in general look like, other than much more similar to the pros.  Happy that the players will be getting fair compensation in what has become increasingly exploitative as CFB and CBB became billon dollar money printing machines, but will miss many of the aspects that remained of amateur sports.

Just very happy that UM managed to win the last CFB championship of the “semi-amateur” era.  Feels appropriate

It's reckless and his skates…

It's reckless and his skates left the ice and were in the area of the players head.  Sure, at some point upon attempting to initiate the hit his feet were on the ground because, well, that's were all flying checks start from.  The intent here is quite obvious and his skates go airborne .

This is a penalty and given there was contact (skate to head) should have been a major.

Cool story.Top 100 recruits…

Cool story.

Top 100 recruits getting paid life changing $ these days.  UM seemingly not in the game of rewarding potential, but focused on earned incentives/ production.
However you feel about the approach,  calculus is very different than it used to be.

I would be in Oxford myself…

I would be in Oxford myself.  NIL, beautiful campus, beautiful co-eds, SEC football (you’ll get developed and drafted, specifically if you are an offensive player). Kiffin seems like he’d be fun to play for as well.

Michigan bullied their way…

Michigan bullied their way to a National Title.

They lost 3 times over the past 3 years, 2 of the games in somewhat flukey fashion (MSU -bad calls, k9 and poor run fits, TCU - 2 pick sixes, turnovers inside the 5).  Only UGA outclassed UM in 2021, as they were an NFL defense and basically a better version of UM.

UM took on Harbaugh’s personality and the culture was simply to smash people in the face.  Add in the talent identification, development and scheme, and there’s no secret as to why UM has been 1 of the top 2 programs in the country the past 3 seasons along with UGA.

Sorry pooper coolers and sharty fans…it’s not because of some dudes with iPhones on the sidelines of games.

At this point it is the…

At this point it is the equivalent of taking lobbyist or special interest money out of politics.  Not going to happen.

The system and benefactors are so entrenched, and $ so big, that certain folk need to ensure that things change only so much.

-This is NOT intended as a politics comment, but instead a comp or metaphor for CFB.

Zak will play the role of big brother and help the talented Hall with whatever tuffness* he still needs to develop - although rumor is Ryan Day is a super Tuff* totally tuffest* coach tuff* guy there is.

He’s a QB 3 you keep on…

He’s a QB 3 you keep on roster as a luxury for gimmick plays - like end of half 70 yard Hail Mary plays.
I’d rather use final roster spots on special teams demons that can affect field position every game

Not sure if a/

But, He ate it, so it’s fair game - pun intended.

Now Trophy hunting virtually-extinct animals, seems unnecessary.

The success of an NFL QB is…

The success of an NFL QB is very much chance and system. Further, the QB’s ability to process information and read defenses quickly -and study his ass off - is huge.

Lamar Jackson is currently not in the NFL if Baltimore decides to not build an entire offense around him and be patient with his growth as a passer.

Joe Montana - Bill Walsh, west coast offense. Never had the physical attributes of Marino or Elway

Patrick Mahomes - probably putting up numbers anywhere, but winning at this rate - the marriage with Andy Reid and his play calling are huge.

Brady - obviously…always clutch and hardest worker in the building, but Pats defense carried those early teams until he became Tom f’ing Brady.

JJ seems to be in a good spot to develop

No, it's an over correction…

No, it's an over correction without structure.

Prior system was exploitative.  Current system is wild west insanity.

Contracts, rev share, and organization should fix the problem over time.

It was broken before , and its broken now - just on completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

Thankfully Michigan won the…

Thankfully Michigan won the last "real" CFB championship of the prior era.

This will all get cleaned up at some point with contracts, rev share, etc - but right now it's the Wild West.  The NCAA was screwing players for years with free labor and "bagging" (SEC, OSU) teams reaped the benefits of the assymetry.  I'm not naive enough to believe that UM never paid players under the table, but also have enough common sense to know that the best players in the country weren't constantly choosing Bama and OSU for the Tuscaloosa and Columbus nightlife, beaches and culture scene. But now the pendulum has swung all the way back to over correct, and the system is broken and completely unstructructered.

Once this gets cleaned up and has some structure, hopefully UM can utilize this "money cannon" I keep hearing about. For now, it's just bagging and tampering on steroids and not much can be done if operating in the reality of limitless bidding auctions where you need re-recruit your team every year.

And not to be a hypocrite here....The same reality that allowed Dusty May to build a seemingly NCAA CBB tourney worthy squad in 1 month from absolute dumpster fire, allows for a quality football squad with depth like UM to get plundered by other programs.

JJ was clutch and we almost…

JJ was clutch and we almost certainly won’t have that type of QB play this year.  That said, UM has built their teams around the lines the past few years and proven that what was old is new again…defense, physicality, ground game wins games.

Would not at all be surprised to see a Tebow-Leak at Florida type scenario this year for UM.  Orji is like an extra fullback with a threat to pass, but there are times when a more traditional passing game is needed.

Given our defense and running backs, TE’s and roster talent, no reason we can’t roll with the 2 qb thing if necessary.

Nobody can ever take away…

Nobody can ever take away 2024 from Michigan football.  The documentaries and movies about this team and this past 3 year run under Harbaugh will be epic.
The greatest FU to the NCAA and their chosen allies and winners (OSU, SEC) imaginable.
They literally needed one team to NOT win it all and did everything in their power to bring down UM (because of what Harbaugh says and represents) and they failed.

Stalions crap was random bs they could find at any program…be it scouting, pay for play, ped’s, etc.  The hit job failed.  The program Harbaugh and Herbert built was too strong - physically and mentally.
Just glorious how it all blew up in the face of the ncaa and B1G power brokers.

Well, Quinn was just as…

Well, Quinn was just as annoying as any overhyped ND QB or player in general from that era and or even now as they continue to Return to Glory and Wake Up the Echoes apparently every year now, only to end up meh - or sneak into BCS and playoff contention due to avoiding tough conference games.

That said, Quinn has been quite outspoken about the absurdity of claiming UM's "sIgN STeaLINg!!!" had anything to do with the program's success, and gives full credit to Harbaugh and the team for their achievements.  Henceforth, my enemy's enemy is my friend, and I now like the cut of his jib.

And in fairness to the Figthings, UM was essentially ND, just a decade later to the "down bad" Blue Blood programs club until Harbaugh took over. Theirs has ben 30 years of mediocrity with a few great Kelly years scattered in, and we were 20 years of mediocrity - starting with late ear Lloyd and ending with Harbaugh.

Izzo has hoarded midwest…

Izzo has hoarded midwest talent for almost 3 decades now and done less with more - specifically over the past 15-20 years.  Beilein would have had multiple national titles at UM if staying put for 30 years and pulling in top 5 recruiting classes like Izzo.

Schools like Indiana and Illinois have suffered due to the talent drain that is East Lansing.

1 National Title for MSU in his tenure, given the NBA talent that has gone through that program, is absolute futility. Sharty fans are absolutely delusional about the "greatness" of Tiny Tim.

Mr. March indeed, because he can't make it to April.

Mullings is a tank with…

Mullings is a tank with nimble feet...Haskins 2.0.

Went back and watched the all the games from this past season and Mullings was our 2nd best back over the course of the season.  Edwards, of course, is dynamic and always a big play threat as seen against PSU and Washington, but he struggled for much of last year, tbh.

Assuming Edwards can revert to 2022 form, with more explosives and better vision and balance at the line, the duo will be one of the tops in the nation.  Corum was special in his ability to get both explosive plays and always be good for an extra 2-3 yards after contact on inside runs - but don't think we'll have that luxury this year embodied in just 1 back.  O-line will need to grow up fast.

Beating a good team twice in…

Beating a good team twice in a year is very difficult.

That said, UM was the best team in the country last year and OSU did not have the offense to move it on UM consistently.

JJ was hurt going into the game and I think a rematch would have actually favored UM more.  McCord was not going to get any better in a playoff, JJ probably would.

The only game UM seemingly lost control of was the Bama game, and that was mostly due to ridiculously poor special teams play which was a 10-14 point swing during regulation of that game.

UGA was probably the #2 team in the nation last year and had the passing attack to potentially threaten UM...glad BAMA beat them in the SEC championship.
