Posts like this make me feel my age because I was playing music at a college radio station in the sixties.  Even though I’ve never caught on to much rap or hip hop, I appreciate discovering new music from the rock, soul and folk-rock genres that my ancient ears were trained on.

Sad to say that the only songs released in 2019 that I can recall are “Old Town Road” (because of the publicity it received) and Fiona Apple’s cover of the Waterboys’ 1985 song “The Whole of the Moon”.

Thanks to the younger members of this board who’ve listed numerous suggestions for this year’s new music.  So far, The Raconteurs’ cover of “I’m Your Puppet”, the Foals’ Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost (Part 1)" album and Black Pumas’ “Black Pumas” album sound good to me. Thanks for the recommendations.  I might have to switch off podcasts for a while and discover more of those songs and albums that you’ve listed.

The albums by Beirut, Vampire Weekend, Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief (both, but especially UFOF), Bob Mould, Raphael Saadiq, Joan Shelley, Patty Griffin, and GoldLink. If you need instrumental music for studying or background, I recommend A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Clams Casino, and Sunn 0)))).

I found a newer band called Yonaka this year that I really like. They aren't huge, but one of their songs did make the NHL 20 soundtrack and I heard another going to commercial for a Sunday Night NFL Game.

Some solid rock music with a female lead singer. Highly recommend.

Have to give some local love. A few touring bands from Michigan that released albums in 2019 that I thought were amazing are below. Check them out!

Billy Strings - Home

Greensky Bluegrass - All for Money

Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers - Paper Castle

Vulfpeck - Hill Climber (technically December 2018.. close enough right?)

I also second the votes for Fear Inoculum by TOOL and Sound & Fury by Sturgill Simpson.
