Chip Kelly - Troubled History with Black Players
https://x.com/jasrifootball/status/1788367773103501556
Former Eagles players expressing their displeasure with how Chip Kelly would treat his black players.
I’m honestly surprised: Chip always struck me as an equal opportunity asshole…
I have to confess that I thought this thread, and your comment in particular, referred to the other Coach Kelly (ol' Purple Face). There is plenty of evidence supporting that both Coach Kellys are equal opportunity asshats.
One Kelly killed a kid and is an asshole. The other is just a racist asshole.
So which one would you rather be stuck with on a deserted island?
On said island, does one have access to a good chianti and maybe some fava beans?
I choose the bear
A deserted island? That’s easy…
Mary Ann…
Ginger for sure
Not-so-fun-fact: The actress who played Ginger, Tina Louise, is the last surviving cast member of Gilligan’s Island, at age 90
Any votes for Lovey?
If we are playing make believe I’m going with both Ginger and Mary Ann.
Touché. That combination is far more attractive than the question posed above.
Awful, awful post. I dislike both of those coaches, but to call one a murderer and one a racist is terrible. People throw these words around way too easily. I wish this forum would be held to a higher standard. Also can’t believe how many upvotes. Give your a head a shake if you upvoted that post.
I'm not up on my legal jargon. Is manslaughterer a thing?
He didn’t call him a murderer, he said Kelly killed a kid. Which he did. It’s publicly documented.
Concerning the other Kelly, the topic of this thread is literally allegations of racism against him.
Morons. The lot of you. If he killed a kid, he would be jail. Even if it was manslaughter, like the other mental midget said, he’d be in jail. Whatever, continue to call everyone killers and racists when you don’t like them. Fits in well with the current environment we find ourselves in.
It’s the same mindset that allows our rivals to call Harbaugh a cheater, and the same mindset that allows anyone to vilify anyone else who doesn’t agree with them.
Your criticism of online toxicity isn't wrong. You complain about vilifying anyone who doesn't agree with one's position on an issue--but then you call those who don't agree with your position "morons" and "mental midgets". Either you did that intentionally to demonstrate your point (in which case, well done) or you are a hypocrite lacking in self-awareness (in which case, the interwebz will speak).
Morons. The lot of you.
That’s a strange way to begin a complaint about how people are quick to judge and apply labels.
If he killed a kid, he would be jail.
And if Ben Roethlisburger raped a girl, he would also be in jail, no? Your faith in our justice system to be the arbiter of truth is, well, quaint.
Whatever, continue to call everyone killers and racists when you don’t like them.
These poor millionaire coaches. How will they ever survive internet slander? Also, I never committed to calling Chip racist—I just think it’s reasonable that others would draw that conclusion based on the allegations against him. I do think that Iowa S&C coach was racist and I didn’t even know who he was before the story broke and I’m indifferent to Iowa as a program. Coming to a conclusion that someone is racist based on their alleged behavior is a reasonable thing to do if the allegations seem credible.
“It’s the same mindset that allows our rivals to call Harbaugh a cheater” (quote button stopped working—bug?)
I don’t think anyone here would argue that we never violated rules during Harbaugh’s time here. Our main complaint is that the rules violations were overblown and comparable to the violations our whining rivals regularly self report. So calling Harbaugh a “cheater” is hypocritical.
Unless we’re going by the “everyone kills people” standard ar OSU, I do not think it’s irresponsible, incorrect, or unethical to publicly state that Brian Kelly killed a kid. If I were texting while driving and it caused an accident where someone died, then it would be accurate to say I killed someone. Kelly put that kid in a dangerous situation even after the danger had been pointed out to him. He made that decision and the kid died as a result.
I had mixed feelings about Kelly before that incident, but I never vilified him before he did something to truly deserve it. You have no reason to assume I think Kelly was guilty of manslaughter due to personal animosity. Maybe it’s due to your mindset that allows you to quickly vilify anyone who doesn’t agree with you.
Well said. Inappropriate character assassination seems to be a popular pastime here.
Hmm, I thought it was being racist that was to be avoided.
I took it as tongue in cheek. You know, a joke. 🤷♂️
Chip Kelly has been coaching college and pro football for more than thirty years, and during that time has no doubt coached hundreds of black players. But because a handful of former players knock him in a Twitter video, only one of whom links his issues with Kelly to race, Kelly is a “racist asshole.” I guess this makes perfect sense in 2024.
I'm perfectly willing to believe this, as well as racism from him. But this twitter post is hardly an accusation of racism
Thank you 87. I agree 100%. “He released me off of allegations” sounds like sour grapes. “Uncomfortable dealing with blacks…” is not exactly racism - and it’s just 1 persons opinion. And the last was someone he called who he KNEW had a beef with Kelly. If Chip Kelly was racist - I would think it would have come out long ago.
Whether you hate the guy or not - that’s a bell that is hard to “unring”.
Yeah, would have been a mite more thoughtful for the OP to place a question mark after the title. I mean, this allegation may quickly get seconded from people around the league, but in the meantime, there's really just one former player in the video declaring that.
OTOH, while being uncomfortable around people doesn't prove you're a racist. . . if you've had a career in football and you're still uncomfortable around Black people?
Anyway, screamer coaches will get away with less under emerging conditions, and that's a good thing. My daughter was a local high school sports star who stood up to two bully coaches during her four-year stint, and while I know that other kids' mileage could vary, that has stood her in incredibly good stead, including now as she begins to coach herself. Both of those people continue to respect her.
Agreed. I was expecting something a little more... blatant. The accusations here are thin gruel at best, and come from players with a professional grudge. Not a particular Chip Kelly fan but I was hoping for something a little more substantive.
I'm guessing many black former Chip Kelly players would probably stand up for him (or already have) but I don't live in the Twix-verse.
Ryan Day must have known he was hiring someone with this in their background.
How deep does this go?
Don't forget that Ryan Day's mentor at OSU had a racist hire. After Iowa had to fire their racist S&C coach, Urban hired him right away to coach in Jacksonville. And then he had to immediately resign because of the backlash.
Background? Day played for Kelly (then OC) at New Hampshire and then joined his staff as TE coach. He also worked for Kelly as QB coach for the Eagles in 2015 and again for the 49ers in 2016.
I think they've met.
if only ryan day somehow knew someone who could, let's say, investigate things in, how about, a private way
Wasn't Day on staff of the Eagles while Chip Kelly was HC? He knows he hired a racist...
Edit: Was QB coach for Chip Kelly at both the Eagles (2015) and SF (2016)
He's the head coach. He should know EVERYTHING going on in his program.
Someone had better investigate this. OSU is putting safety of those players in danger.
PETTITI!!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!?! WE DEMAND ACTION!!! SHOOT FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS NEVER, BECAUSE F**K 'EM, THAT'S WHY!!!
Ask question NEVER! I’m dying 😂
Yikes.
No clue if a word of that is true or not but damn, planting that seed (and you know just about every OSU player has seen or at least heard about this by now) is going to make things rather uncomfortable down there.
They may end up 15-0 next year but I'm telling you they are one early season stumble from having the whole thing explode spectacularly in their face. Lots of gasoline on the ground with that roster and coaching staff, just needs one match.
Not sure if October 12th qualifies as an early season stumble but that's the first possible chance of a loss for them. Their schedule is laughable and should get all the derision that they were directing at us last year.
I'd be fine if we lit that long as match in November.
That's what National Championship schedules are made of. ;-)
Yeah, if you win the games at the end.
Honestly, yes. That's why SEC teams used to catch a ton of flack for scheduling cupcake non-cons and then go on to win titles.
Don’t worry Chuck. Despite the Avengers roster , as OSU has had multiple times over the past 2 decades, they’ll break your heart once again.
Nobody underachieves in the biggest moments over the past 20 years quite like OSU.
Recruit like Bama, achieve like Auburn.
They’ll choke again. Not beating UGA with that O-line and qb play. Congrats on all the 5* receivers though.
BuckeyeChuck, you're not a bad guy at all, we like having you around here.
I know their Iowa game is in the toilet bowl, but don't underestimate a fragile team's ability to completely implode in the face of the Iowa defense on October 5
This! You have just described my feelings re: OSU the last 4 months!
15-0 with a mediocre QB situation and loads of uncertainty at O-Line....I don't see it. I know you said "may", I'm just saying!
Their offense doesn't need to be great. It just needs to be good enough. Their defense is likey to be among the absolute best in the country this season.
I'm with you on that....but @Oregon and hosting Michigan are far from guaranteed wins for Osu. Maybe @PSU could be a bit of trouble for them too. Not to mention the Big Ten Championship Game and playoffs. I'd feel much more worried about them if they had Stroud or Fields. Their O-Line was a sieve in the Cotton Bowl as well. I'm not magically believing they will be amazing next fall.
If they make it to 15-0, I hope we make them 15-1 after the championship game. That would be epic.
Just a reminder, we’re in a new era now. 12 game regular season, conference championship game, 3 (or 4, if you are a 5-12 seed) game national championship playoff. That’s 16 games. I would have dropped the conf championship game, but that would mean choosing the players’ wellbeing over $$$.
I'm with you, Woodley. We hear this stuff about them every year, but just going back to 2021 and 2022 when they had aliens at QB and WR, they are not nearly as good in 2024. I'm not sure they are any better than they were in 2023, either. We still have a killer defense and if we can get Cade-level of serviceability our of our QB then I like our chances in Columbus.
Then, maybe this would be a good time for someone to hire a private investigation firm to dig more into this Chip Kelly racist story, then release a bunch of social media and online news stories about it right before the season starts.
Don't forget to get some stooge on the infractions committee with an axe to grind.
More evidence for why he's a great fit for OSU... employing shitty humans since 1870
