B1G Basketball Opponents Announced: Road Trip to Pauley Pavilion
The Big Ten announced men's basketball opponents for next year. Lots of interesting stuff on here, including a road trip to Pauley Pavilion to play UCLA, and Roddy Gayle Jr. gets to play at Ohio State.
The Wolverine's home game assignments include Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State and Washington. The road schedule includes Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin.
U-M will have a home-and-home series with rival Michigan State, Purdue and Rutgers.
UCLA and USC games gotta be in the same week to cut down on travel, right?
I would guess that Oregon and Washington are home one year and road the next like USC and UCLA would be for every team in central or eastern time zones?
I believe that one approach the Pac-12 teams took for travel was to schedule / play games in a Thursday / Saturday - Friday / Sunday set when travel was notable.
So - schools would travel to LA for a "two game road trip" - to UCLA and USC - the same thing with Arizona / ASU and Stanford / Cal.
It would make sense for the "new" B1G to schedule trips the same way. It would reduce travel and make it easier on the athletes.
Yep. WAY back in the day, the 10-team B1G did that as well (Michigan/MSU were travel partners, OSU would play Michigan on a Thursday, IU would visit East Lansing, and then they would flip-flop for Saturday/Sunday).
If you look at today's announcement for other schools, every Eastern school is playing at either USC/UCLA or Washington/Oregon.
I don’t think they even had Sunday games back in the day.
When I lived in California in the 90s that is how the Pac-10 did it.
Yes, Pac-10 and Big 10 both did it. Time to bring it back in full
UCLA and USC....Mick, who is in? Might need a trip to go see TWill.
LOL Don, yeah let's do it!
We can watch TWill hog the ball while dribbling all over the place and then taking a one foot hop shot while falling away from the basket, except this time for USC.
I just loved those shot attempts so much!
This is a perfect description of TWill and I don't sense any sarcasm, whatsoever...
TWill did hit a decent amount of those tho and I wish him all the best. GO BLUE!
Assuming PP is still standing and isn't burnt down considering what's happening at UCLA earlier this morning.
This emphasizes how pointless a regular season championship will be in the new Big 18. When you only play 3 teams both home and away, there is going to be a pretty big variation in SOS just within the conference.
That said, if Michigan wins it I will still gladly hang a banner.
its even more ridiculous in football... especially when you see osu's clown schedule
TRVB - what are you talking about? The O$U schedule? Respectfully, it's a gauntlet - look at the three OOC teams they face. I doubt that any of those three will field ten defenders during critical periods in the game.
Those three OOC opponents - they're filled with tradition and history. They open against the fearless Zips of Akron. Their second contest is against the Broncos of Western Michigan. And, they wrap the OOC up against not just "The Herd" - but - The Thundering Herd of Marshall. This type of schedule really requires they play all three games at home - in the Shoe - which they will do.
Their four road games include - traveling to East Lansing, Eugene, State College, and "the Chicago area" (to face Northwestern).
Do we know non-conference games yet?
Not completely. We're playing in the Fort Myers Tipoff Tournament over Thanksgiving with Xavier, South Carolina and Virginia Tech, and we're playing in the Jumpman tournament in December against Oklahoma in Charlotte, N.C.. UMHoops also has a source that says we're playing Miami (NTM).
The fewer times the team plays at Oregon the better, that floor is horrendous.
Go Blue!
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure I recently saw something about OR getting rid of that "floorest through the trees" court. GO BLUE!
Looks like they will also play in the "Fort Myers Tip Off" next November (Nov 25-27). Other teams include South Carolina, Xavier and Virginia Tech.

Been to a few games there. Nice arena. Ridiculous history, for a while. Of course, they haven't done much since the heyday...
About 15 miles between Pauley and Galen Center! If they're playing back to back out there, would be a sweet excuse for a CA M bball weekend trip, especially during the dead of MI winter! Let's GOOOOOOOOOO!
