Assistant S&C coach Justin Tress is being promoted to succeed Ben Herbert
This probably deserves its own thread. Sam Webb is reporting this as well. Hopefully Tress can keep the train chugging right along.

Clearly Mr. Tress (who I absolutely had definitely heard of before today) was the brain trust of that operation.

Justin Tress seems to be into woodworking ;)
January 29th, 2024 at 1:10 PM ^
Looks strong, fit, clear eyed. So far, so good.
January 29th, 2024 at 1:12 PM ^
Needs to shave his head to be a legit S%C coach.
Way to much hair...
January 29th, 2024 at 1:14 PM ^
Or get a weird mustache
January 29th, 2024 at 1:14 PM ^
Was gonna say, little too much hair. But he's not yet 30. There's time
January 29th, 2024 at 1:22 PM ^
Seriously? So that means this dude has never had to dial a phone number to get on the internet?
January 29th, 2024 at 1:29 PM ^
He has never had to do anything to get on the internet.
January 29th, 2024 at 2:44 PM ^
He connects to the internet with his biceps.

The internet connects to him.
He doesn't do push ups, he pushes the earth down.
He once ordered a steak and it obeyed.
He was once bitten by a poisonous snake and after a week of excruciating pain, the snake died.

POV your athletic department is about to get run into the ground
January 29th, 2024 at 1:11 PM ^
Rabble!!!
January 29th, 2024 at 1:13 PM ^
Gonna remain optimistic about this guy until proven otherwise. I hope he's someone the players respect and can persuade them to stay out of the portal
January 29th, 2024 at 1:15 PM ^
Hopefully a lot of the loyalty is ultimately to Herbert's systems and not to Herbert himself. Given some of the twitter reactions, I'm a little worried that Herbert's exit might inch some guys toward the portal. I hope this calms some concerns amongst the team
January 29th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
What reactions are you seeing?
January 29th, 2024 at 2:12 PM ^
In another thread on here someone posted a whole bunch of current/former player tweets. Mason Graham said “this cuts deep” and even Quinn Nordin said “this hurts more than you know”
January 29th, 2024 at 2:55 PM ^
There was another thread (maybe in the original Herbert one) where someone embedded a bunch of players posting various sad reactions on twitter to the news Herbert was leaving. I don't really recall that for Harbaugh or Minter who were probably more expected to go
January 29th, 2024 at 3:53 PM ^
That is because Ben had access to the players 24/7 and 365 days a year. So the players see and talk to him all the time.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:04 PM ^
Kenneth Grant is following Sark and Texas now too

Ugg. Texas is a school that worries me.

No doubt Herbert was great at his job. It’s a loss. But the cult of the strength coach has always been a bit overblown. They’ll survive.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:44 PM ^
Perhaps you should explain that to the players who are expressing their disappointment.

Smashing. Powerfully put and brimming with loud actions.
January 29th, 2024 at 1:16 PM ^
TRESS! (according to ChatGPT). Harbaugh is in the balloon and Herbert is...uh, flying after him
January 29th, 2024 at 1:23 PM ^
Deal with it, pansy.

didn't need the word "other" in that sentence
January 29th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
Lmao, no it isn't. There is nothing but filler there. Zero information, just a bunch of word salad.
January 29th, 2024 at 2:03 PM ^
pretty sure the few facts arent even accurate

A shining example of just how useful ChatGPT really is. A lot of words with proper grammer. No real information.

The ONLY thing that makes me feel good about this hire is that he followed Herbert to UM in 2018 from Arkansas. Hoping he brings the same philosophy and ability to develop mental toughness.
January 29th, 2024 at 2:00 PM ^
I think the nice thing, like Moore, he will still be able to pick the brain of his mentor whenever he wants. It makes me feel much better.
