7 Nation Army

I wonder if anyone else feels this way.  I'm class of 2009, so was there to remember before the piped in music but still attend games now...

I don't hate 7 Nation Army.  It gets students pumped up, and one thing that's been lost in this conversation is that it probably gets the PLAYERS pumped up, and that's important.  However... I think Special K plays it WAY WAY WAY too much, and not in appropriate situations.  For example...

Appropriate situation: M just went ahead by 3 points against ND, 5 minutes left, about kickoff or start a defensive series.

Inappropriate situation: M is up by 35 against Ball State and is about to start the 3rd quarter.

Appropriate situation: M is down by 7 with 5 minutes left and just made a big play on 2nd down to force 3rd and long against MSU.  MSU calls a timeout.

Inappropriate situation: M is hopelessly down by 25 against MSU and just scored their first points in the 3rd quarter and is about to kickoff.

Just curious about people's thoughts...

alcohol

For the record, I brought in a flask numerous times as a student (2005-2009), and as recently as last year, without getting in any trouble.  Just put it in your back pocket.

get rid of ticket validation

Just curious to ge other people's opinions close to my age... (26).

Isn't sitting in the student section way more fun than the rest of the stadium?  You can be loud, obnoxious, rowdy football fans w/out worrying about offending other people's kids.  Cheering/chanting, yelling on defense (and not feeling like you're the only one doing it), being near the band, etc.  I am what I think you'd all consider a "good fan"... show up early/on time, cheer loud, stay the whole game, etc.

For the last few years I have been attending games in the student section using my expired MCard and getting tickets through a friend's sister (who's family also had tickets, which is why hers were available).  This year, due to being out of town/not having the ticket hookup anymore, yesterday was my first game of the year, and I sat in section 15.  While it was fun and enjoyable, I think it's MUCH LESS fun than being in the student section.  Anybody else agree?

So here's my proposal--there are lots of 20-something alumni in Ann Arbor who still want to go to games.  Get rid of the validation so I don't have to worry them figuring out my MCard is expired.  More importantly, there's probably a bunch of older guys who would LOVE to sit in the student section and drunkenly relive their youth.

It's kinda like Big House Big Heart

Except I get to cross home plate at Fenway at the finish line!  Thanks for posting!

reward

Am I the only one that thinks "Tailgating with Tae" would have been a really great reward for the Kickstarter?  I will gladly trade my shorts for that.

Thanks for all you're doing, being a GREAT Michigan Man!

commmit vs. recruit policy

One thing a lot of us have used ot justify Hoke's policy is to "protect the program," so that they are not holding a spot that could otherwise be given to another recruit.  We saw this play out when Pocic was turned away because we were full...

However, what is the difference between holding a spot for a commit who verbally commits, and a player like Derrick Green or Treadwell who they REALLY REALLY want, but is doing the smart thing and kicking the tires first before they officially commit?  Correct me if I'm wrong Ace, but referred multiple times to a potential recruit as a "backup plan" to either of these two.  My understanding is that if a "backup plan" receiver wanted to commit at this point, the coaches would tell him "no" because they are holding a spot for Treadwell.

Basically what I'm asking is (and I dont' know the answer), is it preferable to "hold" a spot for an uncommitted recruit while he takes visits, or hold a spot for a commit who committed very early and then realizes that they want to make sure they're making the right choice for them.

FWIW, I do think that Hoke's policy isn't realistic given the pressure on kids to commit early--as we have all noted, recruiting starts VERY early in a recruit's life, and it's not fair to expect teenagers to make life-changing decisions and stick with them.  That being said, I think Hoke and coaches are VERY right to expect that commits be up front with them about their feelings, and a policy geared toward that I'd be more on board with.

do coaches "draft board" recruits?

Ace, this is my 2nd year following recruiting really hard.

If Darboh and Chesson were getting close to a decision, would Hoke and co. use that information to try to get Diggs (who based on the rankings I want more, but what do I know?) to commit first?  Is that something coaches do, or do they just kind of let the kids decide?

Basically, do the coaches have a draft board style list of WRs (and all positions, just WRs because that's the only need now) that they'd like, and keep all of them abreast of the others' decisions?

MOAR 2-QB sets

I feel like there is so much potential to create confusion in this set.  I understand that there's a greater chance for either QB to get hurt, but I think if they practiced this in game situations, got good at it, and worked out the kinks, this is the most productive set we can throw out there.

I'd like to see the plays designed so one of (at least) 4 things can happen: DG runs, DG passes, Denard runs, Denard passes.  THEN once you've got these things down, you can throw in RB runs as appropriate (or hell, have Vince throw a pass too, why not).

Defenses have no freakin' clue how to defend this.  It's a gold mine of offensive yardage.

what's hilarious...

is that the food article is the one that finally got me to create a username and get started

Brian, major props on Logan, by far the best restaurant in town, and one of the best i've ever been to (including my snobby east coast elitist restaurants in boston).  We went there for my graduation and my parents were blown away.  GET THE BOAR BOLOGNESE, it's out of this world good.

Also missing Cafe Marie on North campus for breakfast...

ABC is a fav because of the games they got, shuffleboard and darts.  when I drink i like to compete at something.

The only MSV place that i don't hate is Gratzi--however, they're all a good bet for your birthday, since they chop the check in half.

Pacific Rim is also pretty good, although hit and miss on quality.  Surprisingly, the one i've been most impressed with besides Logan is Vinology.  They have hit it out of the park every time i've gone for restaurant week.

Speaking of good deals, Black Pearl has a "restuarant week" menu every Thursday, 3 courses for $25.  GREAT deal, and good outdoor seating in the summer.
