Agree -- you can ski without…

Agree -- you can ski without falling constantly relatively quickly, but it seems harder to become "decent" whereas snowboarders really struggle to learn at first, but become "decent" faster.

I would define "decent" as very comfortable going down a blue run and challenging yourself a bit with easier black.

It's not unreasonable to pay…

It's not unreasonable to pay an amount of money to transfer all the work product. How much is reasonable is in the eye of the beholder. If this is really just about the principle of the thing, you need to move on, just like others have said. If you really need the money, you can fight them, but shitty work isn't a crime -- it's just shitty work. The state bar isn't going to do anything either, unfortunately.

I like the one I have, but…

I like the one I have, but it's only one shirt. It's definitely better than the screen printed stuff.

I got a Michigan Beat…

I got a Michigan Beat Everybody shirt from BreakingT that I really like. Underground Printing is always great -- Rishi and Ryan have been our biggest supporters...

I'm not a fan of the Michigan collection from Homefield Apparel, but a lot of people like it.

Not having to recruit is a…

Not having to recruit is a big benefit in the NFL. On the other hand, if you don't have a star QB in the NFL, you're screwed.

Job quality dramatically…

Job quality dramatically varies based on when you're looking. The facilities are probably the same, the existing program infrastructure is better at Alabama, the recruiting base is better at Alabama, and competition is probably a wash now.

Florida is not a great situation right now, but the right person can win huge. I don't know Oregon can get to that level.

I think Saban has struggled with NIL and probably has too many failed head coaches working for him instead of up and coming folks. Struggle is relative and they're still really good, but they aren't the buzzsaw from 10 years ago.

I also think Oregon gets whooped by Michigan and Ohio State this year. Alabama wasn't quite at Michigan's level, but a lot closer than anyone in the PAC12.

It's not perverse to say you…

It's not perverse to say you're happy he isn't going to be remembered in infamy.

Special teams have been so good under Jay Harbaugh that I never would have thought they'd be the clear weak link in a big game.

People are basically the…

People are basically the same regardless of which color shirt they put on. Most are not going to go out of their way to be a jerk. Some will. They're more willing to be jerks when it's a rivalry.

Big-time bowl games are stupid expensive to attend, especially in a place like Los Angeles. They're only affordable luxuries if you're the kind of person who can function in society. There seem to be fewer jerks all around at those games.

The defense is going to be…

The defense is going to be the Big 10 violated its bylaws. Bylaws are basically a contractual relationship and parties have every right to expect contracts will be honored.

This is really just about coaching the Ohio State game and, hopefully, the playoffs

I definitely wouldn't sign…

I definitely wouldn't sign without reading it.

As much as I really want Michigan to have this work out, I don't actually buy the harm argument. The absolute value of harm to Michigan is probably pretty high depending on the calculation, but the real world impact is really nothing.

I want to believe that…

I want to believe that having no Zoom is a deliberate slap at the out of state NCAA.

I'm still baffled that Michigan couldn't get an order before Penn State. I mean, there are probably a couple judges who are rabid Michigan fans who'd give a 3-day stay just given when the suspension was handed down.

Always look at people’s…

Always look at people’s actions through the lens of their incentives. Michigan is good for ratings and a good Michigan is even better for ratings.

The pessimistic take is …

The pessimistic take is "will murder Purdue, but let up very few points."

Everybody is blowing past…

Everybody is blowing past Weiss as the most obvious internal culprit for "sign gate."

I think there's a decent chance this was at least known inside Schembechler Hall and Weiss helped pass the goods on.

How many ZZ Top fans are…

How many ZZ Top fans are there in the student section nowadays?

To not veer too far into…

To not veer too far into politics, Congress is effectively unable to do anything except hold grandstanding hearings and continue existing funding. I wouldn't count on anything.

The NCAA doesn't really control any money. The NCAA tournament is just a pass through from the TV networks to the schools and the schools don't even bother with the NCAA for football.

3 minutes in Rob Renes…

3 minutes in Rob Renes crushes that Penn State double reverse in 1997.

That's a totally garbage offensive day for Michigan too. <5ypp is pretty bad

I bet Rutgers isn't in the

I bet Rutgers isn't in the top 50

Ditch Penn State, Rutgers,

Ditch Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska, and Maryland. Play a 9 game conference schedule with the other 10 teams.

You've now heard a better idea.

Let's be clear, this is "A

Let's be clear, this is "A Modest Proposal," not some less than brilliant idea.

Second, this modest proposal has nowhere near the obnoxiousness of fan base. I want to know Oklahoma State's plan to get AAU membership.

Pretty sure Rutgers tickets

Pretty sure Rutgers tickets can be had for about $95 less than the Athletic Department's sale price.

I played a game against Ian

I played a game against Ian Gold's brother in football. Played more or less to a draw, but we didn't run to my side much.

I also played a couple times against Ryan Van Dyke. Really tough to stop when things broke down.

I haven't understood why they

I haven't understood why they have football for a long time. It's so expensive.

Peppers: top-10 (frowny or

Peppers: top-10 (frowny or happy?)

Lewis: top-15

Glasgow: 4th round

Charlton: 4th round

Thomas: 5th round

Kalis: 6th round

Overall, probably the strongest class we've had in a long time. Lewis is awesome, but not quite a prototype NFL corner, Peppers is just uber-talented, ideal size, and will be really productive. I think Kalis puts it all together this year and is drafted.

Oh yeah, forgot about Wormley. He's an early 2nd round pick. Chesson probably goes in the 4th or so.

Why would college athletics

Why would college athletics collapse? I don't understand this portion of the argument.

There's a tradeoff to be made between giving a salary to revenue athletes versus better facilities for non-revenue athletes. I'm concerned about building really high-end facilities for non-revenue sports from a budgetary standpoint. A building isn't a one-time cost, but rather an upfront cost and a commitment to maintain the building.

Building very high-end facilities that won't generate any revenue is a model that only works in today's world of college athletics. I'm not sure how long that model actually works, however.

I've always guessed the

I've always guessed the university subsidy was an accounting issue. Something along the lines of university maintenance maintaining the athletic buildings, but the athletic department not transferring money to the appropriate university account.

As a Bay Area transplant, I'm

As a Bay Area transplant, I'm probably biased, but they're so much fun to watch, it's impossible not to like them.

Plus, they're basically the ideal John Beilein team. That counts for something in my book.

I'd prefer he stay coaching

I'd prefer he stay coaching Michigan. He can run the State Department's Twitter feed, though. That would be fun.

I'm not really sure who this

I'm not really sure who this benefits.

If the goal is TV dollars, I'm not sure anyone gets more money. Maybe we'd get something more if Texas came in, but Texas would get less.

If the goal is football competition, you'd be bringing in a few teams to shore up the other half of the conference, but we'd never play them.

By the way, the Big 10 shares its revenue and won't let Texas be in charge. I can't see that ever happening unless they ditch the Longhorn Network. Even then, it's going to be a hard sell for both sides.

There's a keeping up with the

There's a keeping up with the Joneses factor here, except most coaches don't want to keep up.

Summer is coaches chance to work normal weeks, see their kids, etc. Most just don't want to go to satellite camps, much less organize them.

Harbaugh is the type of guy who is hyper competitive and loves this stuff, so he'll always have some edge there.

With the injuries to

With the injuries to basically the whole defensive line and OSU's excellent defense keeping our defense on the field, we were dead before the game started. I actually thought Durkin did well given the circumstances.

We basically have Mattison that pass for the last couple years. Durkin did great and the team is less without him -- although Brown may actually be better.

There's a specific fee that's

There's a specific fee that's part of tuition to supplement the athletic budget.

It's an arms race and they're trying to spend like everyone else without the financial capacity to do so.

I mean, Harbaugh is going to

I mean, Harbaugh is going to Miami or Chicago, right?

Cut and run.

Bo was supposedly very angry

Bo was supposedly very angry with Illinois for firing Gary Moeller after 4 seasons.

They won the next two games against them by a combined score of 115-35.

Choose your enemies carefully.

Michigan ran about 1.2 plays

Michigan ran about 1.2 plays for every 1 play Northwestern ran. This is probably more dominant than it appears because we forfeited two possessions due to the kickoff return and interception return touchdowns.

It's a nice proxy for control because it removes pace. In the Michigan / Northwestern context, it matters a little less because they both play pretty slowly. Against a team like Indiana that really wants to play quickly, you'll see time of possession and play ratio diverge.

Time of possession is a proxy

Time of possession is a proxy stat, but the actual information is easier to find. I'd care more about a ratio of plays than game time. It's a four hour game, standing on the field for 4 more minutes vice standing on the sidelines doesn't matter. Running 30 more plays does matter, however.

He's a little too down on a

He's a little too down on a defense that's allowed 31 points in 5 games (minus the Utah pick six).

I like Michigan Monday, but you can almost sense genuine concern relative to OSU. Haven't been able to see that in a while.

That's a feint, there aren't

That's a feint, there aren't any Mormon name tags.

Smith is starting because

Smith is starting because he's the best pass blocker, period. Isaac is a monster and, in my opinion, shows much better vision. However, he basically can't pass block, so he can't play.

Disagree, the backs weren't

Disagree, the backs weren't split. This is a traditional wing-t, with the old "t" formation broken and the halfback on the wing.

They couldn't really move the

They couldn't really move the ball against a shitty FCS team. They'll have a couple nice plays, but a freshman QB against that defense isn't going to go well.

Was there a cost-benefit

Was there a cost-benefit analysis for any of the marketing ploys during Brandon's tenure?

In other words, was there an incremental dollar made from Beyoncé, Eminem, jet pack guy, etc? I understand what they got out of it, but what was the benefit for Michigan?

Oh yeah, Pop Evil, Appalachian State.

To be fair, there are many

To be fair, there are many other ways to ruin your financial future.

If safeties actually have to

If safeties actually have to account for a vertical passing game, I think 9-10 wins becomes the expectation rather than about 8. We're going to be able to run the ball better this season, but you're looking at another order of magnitude improvement if the safeties have to hang back.

The other piece you're not accounting for is if Jake Ruddock really does bring quarterback play up to a "B" level or not. If he's not ready to play in this system, there's a 6 win season coming.

Personally, I think we're getting an Arkansas season from last year. By the end of the year, we should be scary. The start might be miserable, though.
