The only issue here is that schools like Michigan generate enormous revenue off football players--revenue that supports other sports. I'm completely on board with acknowledging athletes' unique talents, just those of music majors, and creating a different standard for them. However, it is only valid if we appropriately help the athletes get somewhere after school too. The connections and support are there, we just need to be sure to use it.
I'm not arguing Michigan doesn't do this, but there are a lot of anecdotal stories about guys not like Todd Howard, who basically get nothing except some level of knee pain from their time as a big-time athlete.

Add an overlay of the industry and the S&P and you can start making this argument.
Also, having an IPO not jump benefits shareholders. It means he extracted maximum value from the market. I'd argue Ali Baba had a somewhat failed IPO because they left so much value on the table. The banks hate it when the price doesn't jump because they insure against initial losses by new investors.

Agree on those things. Fortunately, the Big 10 doesn't allow those things, so Miles wouldn't have a choice.
As for cutting players, I'm less concerned about cutting players now that our scholarships are for four years. It's going to count against him if he cuts players.

You think Michigan has higher standards for elite athletes than LSU does?
Maybe he can take a couple more risks than Michigan can, but we're talking 1-2 / year, not 10-12.

It's incredibly depressing that we're hoping to be the 2012 version of MSU. Getting to 7ish wins while actually being good could be a disaster. The whole staff would be fired, there would be transfers, and we'd get a B-list hire.

There have always been holes in Narduzzi's defense. Frankly, there are holes in every defense.
Narduzzi makes a bet that college quarterbacks cannot make good decisions or throw accurately under pressure. He's almost always right. However, he needs great secondary play to make that defense work consistently. I'm not confident they can do that year after year. I'm also not confident they can do that against a player like Mariotta.

I think we've proven that's not true. We owned Iraqi and Afghani air immediately and only sort of owned the ground several years later. In a WWII context, that's a largely true statement. Today, not so much.
The Marine Corps "Small Wars Manual" was right, it's nearly impossible to defeat a determined insurgency.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Michigan has already had two||
Michigan has already had two bizarre box scores, Notre Dame and Miami. With Notre Dame, it's trying to figure out how you lose by 31 to a team with under 300 yards of offense, that Michigan outgained, that had no defensive touchdowns. With Miami, it's trying to figure out how the score was that close and the yardage totals so low given the utter level of dominance.
Michigan pounded Miami, but made a bunch of stupid mistakes that created a messy half. End of story.

Michigan should worry about: Maryland’s pass defense. When Clint Trickett looks like THAT, you’ve got problems.
Michigan can sleep soundly about: Maryland’s run defense. 3.0 yards per carry isn’t too bad.
That seems wrong?

|9 weeks 3 days ago||The offense gets to control||
The offense gets to control when the play starts. It's an advantage teams should use. That doesn't mean sprinting up to the line and snapping with 35 seconds left, but it also doesn't mean huddling for 30 seconds, allowing the defense to pick its best personnel for a situation, and then getting to the and having to snap immediately without surveying the defense.
If nothing else, don't let the defense pick it's best personnel. You can stand at the line for 30 seconds just like you can stand in the huddle.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Adding the number of plays,||
Adding the number of plays, all else equal, should reduce variance and lead to the better team winning more often. However, all else isn't equal, so some styles of play and other factors may make moving slower more advantageous.
Different from tempo is GETTING OUT OF THE FUCKING HUDDLE! There's no reason to stroll up to the line with 10 seconds left and take whatever the defense gives you. You can stand at the line for 20 seconds without running a play while checking into an advantageous play.

|9 weeks 4 days ago||Michigan has given up 631||
Michigan has given up 631 yards of offense in 3 games. Sure, two of those teams are awful, but that's really good. The box scores say we blew out the two awful teams and played Notre Dame to a draw.
The loss to ND really hurts our shot at 10 wins, given that MSU still looks really strong, but I'm a believer at this point.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||That's an apples to apples||
That's an apples to apples comparison for most of the country. Very few teams have played more than one halfway decent opponent.
Also, we haven't averaged that kind of yardage without Denard since what, Tim Biakabatuka was around? The improvement relative to last year at this time, against similar opposition, is huge and Gardner isn't having to play hero ball to get there.
