Without due process for the accused, universities are essentially presuming guilt. Having a standard based on preponderance of evidence doesn't matter in a kangaroo court.

Schools don't need to act as a judicial system. They could maybe try to reduce some of the contributing factors, like alcohol abuse.
There's definitely responsibility for the university, just not afterwards. They need to focus on prevention, counseling, and encouraging reporting. Lawyers and police should focus on investigation.

It's not that simple. The guy here had a high-end job offer that he won't get now. He probably can't get a degree anywhere without openly discussing why he was expelled, which means he won't be admitted anywhere.
Basically, it's ruining this kid's life without any type of due process and what is essentially a presumption of guilt.. That's not okay.

There aren't 10 linemen or 6 receivers on this team who are ready to play. The top 5 linemen are going to be fine.
If anything, Morris looked better than I thought he would.

Biggest takeaway is Michigan doesn't have 10 linemen or 6 receivers who are ready to play. Depth is still pretty thin over there. If the line stays healthy and Ruddock or Morris can play, we'll be good. Otherwise, it's going to be a lot of hoping for the ball to bounce our way in low-scoring games.

Really? He's the honest one. He does more or less exactly what he tells recruits.
They are sharing playing time among 9-10 enormously talented players. He could have screwed the bottom 3-4 and left them riding the bench after promising them the world.
I have zero problem with what he is doing at Kentucky. Everyone else talks publicly about fighting for dear alma mater, but privately tells recruits he'll get them to the NBA. Caliperi is honest and everyone hates him for it.

Private websites cannot, by definition, censor.
Only governments can do that.

Totally agree. I lived just off Stadium near the middle school for a couple years. Easy 15-20 minute walk. There won't be anywhere near the same level of traffic either

Cutting the cord discussions here always involve figuring out how to get someone else to pay for content, not actually cutting the cord.
If you want ESPN, BTN, and HBO you'll probably end up paying more than you are for cable, but at least there are real options now.
My real issue is I have only one option for Internet. If I could get Fios, I would cut the cord and save $40+ per month. Since I have to pay Comcast for Internet, cutting the TV cord isn't really valuable.

College Writing in 12th grade was the most important class I ever took.
That, and a case-based course on how to not be an idiot could change the world.

The difference in mathematics is there is ultimately an answer, whereas there is usually only theory in the humanities. If you prove Fermat's last theorem in a novel way, it isn't real disputable. I can dispute the theory of any eminent researcher all day.

Well, MBAs would assume BBAs exist to take up MBA meeting rooms.
Just be honest about your goals. Someone else mentioned you probably can't write anything actually unique. The readers are looking for clarity of purpose and prose. Can you clearly state an idea and back it up?

Yet another reason every team that made really unfortunate uniform decisions in the 70s and 80s should be legally required to continue to wear them.
This includes the White Sox' shorts, for example.

The only beneficiaries of continued expansion are The Rutgers and Marylands of the world.
16 is the magic playoff number that people want, but there's no benefit to the Big 10 to give away more money to bottom feeders that don't expand everyone's bottom line.

I definitely would prefer to return to the 60s. Human decency was so much better then. Unless you weren't white, straight, had a disability, etc.
By any objective measure, we live in the golden age of respect and decency.

Motif is a startup with an interesting take on investing. Check it out.
Basically, you invest in an area rather than say a fund or a specific company. For example, if you know a ton about, say, apples, and think things are looking up, you can invest in the supply chain, Motts, and producers. Motif helps you pick those firms.

I claim a boatload of withholdings on my W-4. Always owe a couple hundreds dollars. They say perfect tax planning is owing $0. I disagree. Taxes are my annual payment for civilization and I'm fine paying them, but I'm not loaning anyone, government or otherwise money at 0%.
If you really want a big lump sum in April that's risk-free, invest some amount in 1-year, some in 6-month, and some in 3-month T-Bills directly, not through a fund. You'll have more at the end.

I live in a nice suburb in the East Bay. I have a great post-MBA job and a house that is way too expensive.
I get her point. I feel like money is an issue all the time because I chose to live in one of the two most expensive real estate markets in the country, wanted to live in a great school district, and my wife stays home with the kids. We both drive 6-7 year-old cars, rarely go out to eat, and don't buy nice clothes. It's easy to feel like I'm not doing well financially.
However, I have perspective. I'm middle income in my town, but I could move to Oakland for half the price and make 2-3 times average. I have lived on ham sandwiches post-college because I ran out of cash 25 days into the month. There is a safety net I've built up over time that will make falling into very hard times unlikely.
She doesn't have that perspective yet. She's going to get some quickly or just be an indignant college kid. Either way, this really says nothing about the school, society, or anything else. Too bad it didn't stay on campus for her to take lumps there.
