Losing Pavel and the cap money is really bad. I have a Zetterberg fat head on my wall and love what the guy has done during his Wings' career, but he is close to the end. In two years we'll have about $15 million to buy some players.
We were one Boston cluster fu$% second period away from this season being a failure. Hard to feel more optimistic about next season though.

It's all about recruiting California. Would be curious what our improving recruiting strategy has been. New coaches? Illegal NCAA camps (joking)? Can't be the weather...

CJ Lee would be good. Patrick Beilein's name is going around too.
How about some AAU coach that can bring us an athletic big man?

Cracker Barrel. Old Country Buffet has the wierdest. Use to go there when I had two kids under 4 years old as everyone makes a mess and there was soft serve ice cream, mac n cheese and chicken fingers.

was the next story after Cracker Barrel link and needs mentioning. Kicks Cracker Barrel any day for feeding the family economically. Food is crazy good and stupid cheap.
Pizza, Chicken Baken, Beef Brisket are especially good.Try the berry smoothie too. You don't have to be a member to eat there. $20 feeds a family.They now take credit cards.
Plus if you need like a 5 gallon jar of mushrooms a new flat screen TV you can get that too : )

I see both sides on this theory but honestly don't see that as an issue here... and yes, I make typos.

Best Final? Villanova over Georgetown. A #8 seed plays the perfect game and beats the #1 overall seed.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||The team travel is also a huge cost||
Gone are the days of traveling by bus and only playing within 300 miles of home.
Look at the non revenue sports and the competition they play all over the US, and it's not hard to see that this is not sustainable, if the TV contracts become less lucrative.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Performance usually follows upgrades||
The timeline is 1) get good coach 2) fix up facilities 3) attract top recruits 4) win more. OSU went on a roll a few years after they did all their facility upgrades.
DB also foolishly fired many non revenue sport's coaches and that didn't help "his record".
|3 weeks 3 days ago||While I'd love to see women's hockey and men's water polo added||
The flip side of this is the skyrocking costs associated with ALL the non revenue sports. They lose millions of dollars EACH and the money has to come from somewhere.
Perhaps this just accelerates the eventual speration of the top power 5 universities to form their own super conference and the rest of the universities that just can't afford to compete.
I've read about ESPN's poor financials and when they stop pumping millions into college sports it could be a real bursting bubble.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Far from it||
But this is an area DB did make progress in (upgrading facilities for all men's and women's sports). The steam shovels are making good progress on South State street as we speak.

but I agree with your last statement.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||maybe semantics?||
To me world class is someone who is a stars in the EPL, German, Spanish , and Italian top leagues. Dempsey had a short run of brilliance in the EPL when surrounded by capable teammates and a good coach. Howard was definitely a top keeper in the EPL and masked plenty of defensive deficiencies on the USMNT. To me these players are light years ahead of Donovan, Bradley(who I think could be a very good player), or any other USMNT player. In their prime Dempsey and Howard could play on any squad and look they belong.
You can't be a top10 national team with only two players of this caliber. Howard is old but still damned good. Buffon is still world class (and enjoys a heck of back line).
Are these guys Iniesta, Messi, et.al.? Of course not. I would call these guys world class elite.
With the number of kids playing soccer, the facilities and money we throw at youth development, etc. and producing practically no world class (let alone elite) players, one has to wonder if we have it all wrong.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Really impressed with his play recently||
He and Connor impress me as guys who can contribute right away in the NHL. My loathing of OSU carries over to the Blue Jackets though. May Larkin and Luke G. skate by him on the way to scoring goals for the Wings.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Lack of talent||
I blame the whole US developmental system as well as Klinsmann.
Dempsey and a few keepers are the only world class talent we have. Kids grow up learning the game with too much structure and quite frankly not enough time playing the game with out screaming parents and youth coaches who are pressured to win, instead of developing technical skills. The top youth clubs practice about four hours/ week plus some weekend games where quite honestly the kids don't get enough touches and are criticized often for taking "chances". We really see it in a lack of quality strikers. Defenders don't practice against world class talent and consequently look like deer in headlights when they finally play against top talent.
Maybe soccer should look at USA hockey as one example of how we can raise our collective talent?
Perhaps whent he MLS raises it's collective talent that will also help.

The atmosphere was great, the field was beautiful, and the quality of soccer was much better than MLS. Many of the stars warmed up but didn't play much or at all. Ronaldo came in towards the end of the game but imho was worth the price of admission. Man U's first goal was a world class series of passes and finish - again to me was worth seeing.
Tickets will go fast due to the insane following of both clubs. I sat high in the endzone underneath the scoreboard and really liked the seats since the view was good and I could see the other scorebaord easily which had a live stream.
To me, a soccer fan, this is a no brainer game to see. Would have preferred seeing Barca or Juvi but cant complain.
