and don't think you can draw too much from week one except that the SEC is still the best conference, or at least has crazy athletes at all positions. How big10 teams will do against each other 3 weeks from now is a crap shoot for the most part.
NO ONE would have predicted MSU's great run last year after the first game (s). Connor Cook and their entire offense went from being the worst to being the best in the league.
This year, Indiana and Minnesota are underdog teams that I thnk will pull off a big upset or two in conference play.
|1 day 13 hours ago||Play selection also was key||
Nothing too complicated for the entire offense including the O-line. Coach Nuss passed his first test with flying colors. If they can execute similarly against a better opponent, Notre Dame, a 10 win season is suddenly a realistic expectation.
|1 day 13 hours ago||Seriously the biggest plus was Nussmeier's management of Gardner||
Great play calling/ schemes to minimize Gardner's mistake possibilities. Gardner passed the first test with flying colors. Good for him!

We clearly need to step our game for ND. I'm talking double digit "wells" and three plus ' you knows".

you can park for free on a side street in A2! Just pulling your chain. Have a great time with your son and cheer loud!

The field hockey field can be blue, green or pink.

but the fans just really loved him from day one and took them in as their own, after his horrific family circumstances. I fully hope and expect that we blow Austin away with our support.
I think John Beilein deserves continued praise for not only the class and character he has, but for the character of the players he is bringing in to represent our beloved university!

I'd support alcohol sales (stop at the end of halftime) and limited advertising by the scoreboard.
|2 weeks 4 hours ago||MRI tomorrow from what I read||
I'd wait for a doctor's report or official news from OSU before we speculate how long he will be out, or how it will effect their team. I'm more concerned about our team, namely our running game.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Seattle does have a great atmosphere||
But no way do they compete in the Premier League. Yedlin just signed on to play for the SPurs in 2015- 2016. This is good news for USA soccer.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||This represents everything right with college sports||
What winners he and Coach Beilein are! Sorry Spike, I may have a new co favorite player : )
|2 weeks 5 days ago||MLS getting better but still hard to watch||
if you compare its quality to many world class leagues. In Europe practically no one would go watch a university club match, which is different than the college football mania that we have here. No right or wrong just a matter of taste. I personally like both ends of the spectrum, supporting my local teams and also bucking up to see the very best in the world. The exhibition at the Big House had many quality plays that one would simply not see at any MLS game. when the MLS has a Detroit team I will support it. I would rather hit myself with a hammer than support anything associated with the dregs in Columbus.

In the waiver wire. How's that for being positive?
|3 weeks 9 hours ago||You really think you will have trouble getting decent tickets?||
I think Soldier Field will be half, or more, empty. I lived in the northern burbs of Chicago and enjoyed going to Northwestern to see MIchigan football and basketball (and now you can go up to Madison to see hockey) - but this makes no sense to me, other than for about 10,000 alums of the schools that turn out to see this.
|3 weeks 9 hours ago||M vs MSU football should be at Yankee Stadium next year||
Lord knows we have some East Coast alums and more marketing opportunities for that "wow" experience....And who really cares about the season ticket holders anyway?
On a more serious note, Miami and WMU as the other game in this hockey match up. Any guesses on how many fans will attend this match up on Feb 7th?
|3 weeks 14 hours ago||Now THAT makes sense!||
submit your resume to DB.
|3 weeks 14 hours ago||But will there be fireworks?||
Seems like a forced "event". Maybe the teams will wear new alternate Adidas jerseys?
|3 weeks 3 days ago||question to anyone under 21||
Does this uniform appeal to you? Would you buy one?
I must be way out of the target market because this uniform is a butt ugly to me. Of course if they win, Brandon and Adidas can dress them in clown outfits.

I'm no prude, but I saw several young teenagers, mainly girls, unaccompanied and asking for trouble. My first thought was what are their parents thinking?
I've been going with my daughter for several years and she is now 17. I do give her space and let her pick the acts... Artic Monkeys won over Eminem : (.
It's really a fun bonding time. We brought her up conservatively but laugh about the pot smoke, the really skimpy outfits (yes I notice them), and the bizzare people watching. She is learning to play electric guitar and even has become a fan of some "oldies" rock from my stone age era such as the Cure and New Order last year.
You are so right on how easy it is to blend in. There are lots of really nice kids there who are very accepting of "old people". Some even told me that " I wished my parent would come".
Maybe you should ask your son if he wants to bring a friend next year, sort of best of both worlds? This is a big time in his life, so be there for him, even if he says he is too old. Even if they act like they don't want you around, they do listen to what you say, and watch how you act . He will also brag to his friends, behind your back of course, that he has the coolest Mom around!
|4 weeks 7 hours ago||Saw Ghost BC too : )||
THAT was some act! I have a blast every time I go and try to see all genres of music, but am surprised by which groups draw the main stages and huge crowds. Last year was excellent in both big acts : Killers, Cure, Mumford and Sons, et al. and "small stage acts" such as 21 Pilots and Jake Bugg.
This year some of the big stage acts seemed like they should be on small stages.
Royal Blood and Hozier played in front of 100's and deserved to be seen by 1000's. I didn't complain as I was front center for both.
Eminem was very good but I would have liked to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers come back.
Anyway check out Royal Blood and read about/watch Mike Kerr's guitar playing. It was like watching Hendrix at Monterey - everyone was wondering how does he play three different guitars sounds from one 4 string bass using splitters and different amps. Even Jimmy Page has gone to watch him play.
|4 weeks 10 hours ago||Any real rockers out there? Royal Blood!!||
Royal Blood was probably the least talked about band and had the best show at Lollapalooza. They had critical acclaim after performances at Glastonbury and BBC/ Jools Holland but are still unknown here. Think White Stripes meets Black Sabbath- a two guy band that blow the lid off. They have some songs on youtube and their debut album is goign to be released later this month.
I also liked Hozier and Artic Monkeys.
It's a great festival but I believe more than half the attendees don't know much about the bands and just want to see whomever they last heard on popular radio.

|5 weeks 6 days ago||Doing the Daddy Daughter bonding trip to Lollapalooza next week||
Last year we bonded over 21 Pilots and Jake Bugg, (which got her into some Johhny Cash, Dylan) and The Cure. She was so inspired that she bought an electric guitar and is getting pretty good :)
Looking forward to Artic Monkeys, Black Keys and The Kooks this year's year show.
I like the old school bands that are really talented musicians such as Rush and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer but realize my breed is dying off,lol...
|6 weeks 1 day ago||Sounds great||
I hope I am alive for the day when I can take a train from A2 to a Red Wings game (in Detroit).
The Joe is old, ugly, uncomfortable and doesn't take advantage of its prime location (no views from inside, poorly planned parking, obstructs what would be a nice river view).
As long as there are fireworks, count me in ; )
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Nice post Brodie||
Congrats to you and good luck in your future. Your Michigan experience socially and academically will hopefully prepare you well!
By the way I am very proud of Charles Woodson,Juwan Howard, and countless other athletes for the work they do with Mott's Childrens Hospital.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Academics upset?||
Not sure how you draw this conclusion.
My point was that the academic reputation of MIchigan, especially grad schools, is what is sacred to this institution of higher learning.This is what draws the huge donors who want their names associated with surgery units, cancer research wards, business schools, etc.
All sports are subserviant to academics. Football is great entertainment for students, alums, and walmart wolverines, and is a nice recruiting tool for getting undergrads. The cyclical nature of UM sports teams winning won't make or break Michigan's admission rates or the pocket books of its donors.
Academics definitely would prefer UM to be sucessful in all sports including football, but don't lose sleep over it if they don't.
The frustration for many UM alums over 40, and perhaps some of the Regents, is that DB is trying to turn every home game into a Super Bowl, when what makes college football great is that it is not the Super Bowl. This does not diminish the high marks he gets for improving all of the athletic facilites
