This roster is ripe for a quick and impressive turnaround if Beilein can adjust the way he recruits.
You drop Donnal and Robinson after their redshirt junior years. That opens up two more spots for 2017. You could snag one good athlete that's a guard/forward type (Greg Elliott or flip Jamal Cain). Bank the other scholly for Cormac Ryan in 2018. Then Mathews comes in next year and adds a boost. Plus, you've got Wilson and Wagner back, with Livers and Poole coming in. At least one of those guys should be instant impact.
Still don't understand why they went after Brooks though. He's not the type of player this team needs. Hopefully he makes me eat those words. They should've taken Nojel Eastern instead.
|3 days 19 hours ago||Slow feet||
Nearly everyone on this team has slow feet for their position except for Simpson, not surprisingly the best defender of the bunch as a true freshman. It's a direct result of Beilein's lack of emphasis on athleticism in recruiting. DJ Wilson is really the only plus athlete, and even he isn't good laterally (being able to jump out of the gym doesn't mean you can shuffle side-to-side quickly).
Charles Mathews should bring some much-needed speed next year and Livers is a good athlete too. Brooks looks slow and I'm not sure on Poole.
Beilein needs to not give Duncan Robinson a 5th year and go grab a guard/wing who with a higher ceiling.

I'd tend to agree with your overlap and uniquesness comments, but what's to stop MGoBlog from deciding to put a section on the blog as paywalled content and having Sam be the man behind the wall? I could easily see that being financially beneficial for both parties. Sam has connections and people will pay for his info. That's proven.
Just because Scout mothership goes under doesn't mean Sam wasn't doing well. It just means that Scout's guys as a group weren't generating enough revenue to sustain the business. So, I think what you'd see, is that Scout writers who are in demand in their markets would simply latch on with a competitor or go independent (kinda like that Iowa Awesome blog). And that's terrible for an acquiring company. You laid off everyone, when only a certain percentage of writers weren't pulling their weight. Now all the best ex-employees are now competing against you.

Yeah, except this is an industry where it's super easy for your redundant employees to get canned and then immediately start competing with you again.

That'd definitely be an antitrust violation.

Jim Harbaugh is mad at you for doing this. Seriously, Sam Webb said folks in Schembechler are pissed at Michigan fans for saying bad things about Aubrey since he's a kid and goes on the internet and sees the comments and is getting turned off from Michigan as a result.

I thought they had to get rid of one coach since they were gonna be over the limit of 9.

Don't really see the difference between transferring in like this or coming in like Brad Hawkins and Mitch McGary (prep school). I assume both had academic issues, so it's not like bad H.S. grades vanish when you go to a community college or prep school. Plus, UM accepts non-athlete transfers from community colleges all the time.

ooookay...going with the literal comparison I see
|1 week 4 days ago||Welp||
Welp, I would be happy, but it doesn't matter. With the way Urban is recruiting, they'll have another guy just as good right behind him. Impressive what Urbs is doing down there. Like Calipari but with more winning.

GFunk says Harris is coming to Michigan. It's done.

It really doesn't. Nothing is changing, Harris is just not talking. Grown adults are creating drama. This recruitment has little drama coming from the recruit.

Isaiah Crowell or Doug Martin

I think you just made my lunch plans for me. Roast beef and cheddar with an extra large curly fry.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Brooks||
At this point, I think the projection for Brooks would be as a depth player, not a focal point. Eastern has natural gifts that Brooks just doesn't have, so he's got star potential. Assuming the numbers work, I think it would've made sense to take both. The past few Beilein teams have been desperate for guards who can get their own.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Why||
Why am I not shocked. So stupid to pass on a talent like Eastern. Who cares if his mom is a problem. Horford's parents were a pain in Beilein's neck by all accounts and it didn't seem like that caused problems for the team.

Is Dejulius good enough to get separation in the half court against B1G defenses? Seems like UM hasn't had a guy who could create since Stauskas. Gotta be fast, strong, or really good with the ball to do that and no one on the current roster can. It's killing us when opposing Ds extend pressure.

People other than grandmas watch HGTV, Brian. You might even have readers who take vacations to both Orlando for bowl games and Waco for Magnolias.

You're right. I think it was Justin Smith.

May not be confirmed by Cinci or OSU, but a local Cinci TV station is reporting it:

I think a certain recruit was trying to Tarik everyone when he said Alabama was his leader.
|6 weeks 19 hours ago||Word||
Highly rated WRs and RBs seem to have a much higher hit rate (i.e. perform in line with starz) than OL. Makes sense to target fewer but more highly rated skill position guys and load up on the positions where it's more hit-and-miss.

|7 weeks 22 hours ago||Official visit||
He hasn't taken one. That's no bueno for someone who wants to end up at Michigan. If you'll recall, certain others last year didn't get an official visit, either.
|7 weeks 1 day ago||This team||
This team just isn't very fun to watch. Guard play is usually the driver for fun teams and guard play last night was quite underwhelming (counting Irvin as a wing). Maybe I'm just spoiled from the Fresh Five years.
But our backcourt play is going to be a big issue going forward. Teams are going to start playing extended pressure D on this team in the halfcourt and I think we're going to have consistent problems dealing with it. Just not many players who are going to really hurt you off the bounce.
