Stephan Lauermann. We must have been classmates together. I share your pain.
I missed an A- in that class by 9 points out of 1000 (LITERALLY LESS THAN 1% ERROR) and he and my GSI were like "lol tough shit buddy better luck next time".
Honestly though Econ 402 was pretty awful too, if only because it was another German professor with a thicker accent who couldn't be bothered to address class questions. Those two made for a relentless sophomore year.

But having met Walton a number of times and being a clean 6'1" myself, Derrick Walton is NOT 6'1". He's lucky if he's 6' even.
This can, should and does make him even weirder. Hail Beilein.

"You down with JBP?"
Or something to that effect, JBP just seems to make the most sense and flows easiest.

Last year, before the wheels came off the bus entirely, my dad and I got front row, courtside seats next to the hoop where M was warming up pregame. Spike proceeded to drill 3 threes from the corner which made my dad laugh out loud and made me say out of reflex "God d*** Spike".
He turned around and smiled and said "Thanks, Go Blue".
I'm gonna miss the loving hell out of him.

If only because as someone who has a little brother, I've found that my little brother is actually beyond supportive of me in everything. And I of him. We have different relative strengths and I'm certain that when he surpasses (or has surpassed) my skills in various endeavors, he celebrated perhaps for a bit and then got to focusing on making himself even better.
This isn't little brother. This is the little sh-t cousin at every family gathering (to whom you refuse to believe you're related) who is deadset on being better than you, and one-upping you, even after the conversation has moved onto another topic (like, how we have a bye week and still have to win the Jug in two Saturdays, but the only thing Spartans can focus on is the biggest fluke and probably second largest ref screwjob [Spartan Bob] in the history of Michigan football.)
Jemele Hill taking up 90% of her segment to rip on Michigan is not what a little brother would do. It is the sign of a pathologically insecure and obsessed fanbase that has nothing to live for except to beat Michigan. It'd honestly be adorable if it weren't so pathetic.

After all, this could end up being, dare I say, "tremendous?" It's SiriusXM fergodsakes.

But as a by-and-large traditionalist, I have to admit I really, really did like the solid blues against Penn State. I thought futzing with the helmet to any degree (matte finish, chrome finish (?), schizophrenic decisions on what color yellow we're using) and whatever we're barfing onto the white jerseys is shameless overkill, but I do think there's something to be said about going monochrome during a night game.
Related: I'm also an Eagles fan who would love to see them bring back the kelly greens, and I thought the solid black look against the Giants this past Sunday night was terrific. I think there's something to be gained from the monochrome look if we do it once a year for UTL.
The striped numbers were hideous, I'll just put that out there.

Both Hoke and Mattison are at their core DL guys. They know the position inside and out. They don't have that level of nuance and insight for LB / DB position groups. I'm not going to pretend I know the intricacies of the 4-3 over or 4-3 under but on a generally-applicable high level, familiarity can only do so much for a player when and if there are fundamental flaws in what he's doing that aren't being corrected by the coaches.
No, I don't have a particular player in mind, and no, I don't know if people are making the same mistake repeatedly on defense. This is just a commentary on Management 101. If Hoke and Mattison don't have the level of insight for the rest of the defense that they do for the D-line, then we're in some sense doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. That we shuffled all of the defensive position coaches in the offseason probably doesn't add much to continuity either.
|1 year 41 weeks ago||solid fit for both||
Considering the Eagles' secondary woes, I think Kovacs could end up contributing somewhat. Anyone who can anchor the two best defenses that Michigan has had in recent memory, I'm certain brings something valuable to the table.
Anyone would be better than Cary Williams at this point, good lord.
|2 years 14 weeks ago||subdued panic||
I can't be the only person sitting at my desk quietly FREAKING OUT about the fact that we keep missing on 2015 commits right? Considering how much turnover we're going to have after this year we need all the help we can get.
If I'm completely off base, I would love for someone to slap me and tell me to get my sht together.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||please||
He took an experienced group of players, implemented a fairly new/different scheme, and there wasn't a considerable drop-off in production from RR 2010. Coupled with Mattison's improvements to the D, we won a Sugar Bowl.
We've been getting younger each and every year and maybe his stubbornness was his undoing but we actually won a BCS game thanks in no small part to Borges being able to adapt to Denard. We have exactly two BCS wins.
Here's to hoping for the future.

Just out of curiosity, no one sees the problem in hiring someone who has never been a coordinator or called plays (e.g., assistants from other "pro-style" schools), when our own head coach doesn't call plays or even wear a headset? No one sees this as problematic?

if you pick ruining Ohio's season (maybe extrapolating it to their overall winning streak) over Michigan winning a national title of its own, it doesn't change the fact that you are picking spiting someone else over your own alma mater's triumph, a triumph we have accomplished exactly one time in history.
So congratulations, if you'd rather #BEATOHIO than win a national title, you're a Spartan in Wolverine clothing. Go burn a couch.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||maybe||
maybe, just maybe, Hoke is actually not a "good" football coach, and maybe he knows nothing about offensive playcalling... so he washes his hands of it every week. he was a defensive lineman in college and that's been his calling ever since. motivation and keeping The Team The Team The Team together is one thing, but knowing how to win games by scoring points is quite another.
i'm not saying, i'm just saying.

Does Ole MIss's "Best Practices" not address screaming obscenities during fellow classmates' performances?
|2 years 45 weeks ago||obligatory||
I know he was just given #21, and rightfully so, but can we have a serious discussion as to whether he should or should not be in consideration for the #1 jersey? and why? i don't see what more a guy has to do to be considered for it, in two games, one of which against a very respectable defense, he has put up startling numbers and looks like something out of a video game.
unless they're effectively retiring it until they trot it out for george campbell in two years, i think it's become a grail quest at this point.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||cautious optimism...||
I have to believe that we're still "one year away"; the football program is already rolling, and really it got off to an incredible start with the Sugar Bowl win, but with the cupboard mostly empty post-RR and the amount of incredibly talented (albeit young) depth, I think the real dividends will start to be paid next year. Of course, I've been wrong before.
I'm predicting 9 or 10 wins, just because of the sheer amount of questions on defense. But here's to unmitigated hope and irrational confidence!!!!
|2 years 47 weeks ago||preach||
i'd be willing to bet that half the people lamenting how these young'ns aren't going to games anymore would be guilty of much of the same were they on campus now.
It's a different era (full disclosure, I graduated in 2011). We play the defending national champion in Dallas (read: NOWHERE NEAR CAMPUS), serve [poop] on a plate with games against middling MAC and/or FCS schools, and students are supposed to be happy with the fact that they get to pay $25 a pop for that (and that's before the $4 water bottles and other exorbitant concessions)? How many of you would shell out $200+ for season tickets when the home slate consists of App State, Miami (NTM), Utah, Minnesota, Penn State, Indiana and Maryland? How many of you paid $200 total for FOUR seasons of football?

So after the draft, Trey's marketing team and my friend's dad's company put on a private event in NYC for Trey's family and friends, and I and a bunch of friends got invites also. Bleacher Report showed up to make a video of Trey walking in and celebrating, the whole thing was really well put together, and it was an amazing time. He seemed pretty overwhelmed and exhausted by the time he showed up (about 1:30 am eastern time) but he was smiling and laughing the entire time.
Can't say enough about him and what he's done for our program, and I can only wish him the best of luck going forward. Considering Utah was an above-.500 team last year and just missed the playoffs, mostly because they were lacking a solid option at PG, I think it's a great situation for him.
And, naturally, being a Knicks fan, I was bouncing off the walls when we drafted THJ.
Forever Go Blue!

can't think of a better description for him... and i'm probably gonna have to buy his jersey now.

as an Eagles fan this is amazing. Somewhat surprising he's never been to a Michigan game before, but I'm betting his dad was feeding him the Kool-Aid from birth
|3 years 4 weeks ago||Summer vacation? You||
Summer vacation? You youngsters and your colloquialisms. Haven't heard that phrase since Rich Rodriguez was strolling the sidelines and weird stuffed animals were rubbing their junk on our linebackers!
The best I get is a weekend here or there to leave NYC and get out to the Hamptons. That's about it.
|3 years 4 weeks ago||such a shame||
he played the hell out of Tony Soprano... arguably the best, and certainly most recognizable, tv character of his generation. i don't know too many people who didn't watch the show. he was great in just about everything he took on. taken way, way too young.
|3 years 7 weeks ago||I dunno||
I don't see us landing an RB this class, and I think if we manage to pull Hand and McDowell (or God willing both) and Westphal that might round out the class. It's a relatively weak year for running backs and we have a ton of depth, even after Fitz graduates, and the 2015 RB class is looking much stronger.
We might be able to land Winovich too, which would certainly be welcome, but considering the numbers crunch for this class I think once we get to 14 or 15 they might pump the brakes a bit.
