Please . . .

Put down the crack pipe.

You cannot be serious.

Surely you aren't defending Hoke's negligence in leaving Shane in after that hit and collapsing against an O-lineman, are you?  You do realize, I hope, that defending Hoke by saying he's done the same thing with Gardner isn't really a viable defense.  You are going to go down with the Hoke ship.  We get it.  But please don't try to justify his continued tenure with this sort of logic.

He wasn't listening to the radio

And wasn't watching the game, unless he left the room for a beer when it happened.  I was listening on the radio, and Brandy and Dan were both hollering about how Shane collapsed into his O-lineman, how Nuss was frantically telling him to take a knee, and how Shane waived it off.  If they can see that from the radio booth, how in the world does Hoke claim he didn't see it?  Cold War is the last of the Kool-Aid drinking Hoke -eecans.  Sten and company have already conceded the obvious.

Acceptance.

I didn't think I'd live long enough to say it, but it is true. Took my son to BWW to watch the game, and couldn't even muster up the usual anger as we watched the debacle. The soul dong punch doesn't even hurt anymore. On the positive side, I guess my health/blood pressure will be the better for it.

MDMA (Ecstasy)

Don, MDMA is a Schedule I controlled substance, which means it has no recognized legitimate medical use. That doesn't answer your question, but it isn't like he got some of it from someone's prescription drug bottle that way laying around like you get with those who abuse oxycontin or other painkillers. As you aptly point out with your question, many people attempt to self-medicate with whatever will make them feel better. Spence may just have been rolling on E because he likes to get high, but he may also take it because it allows him to escape for a few hours.

Meth

Methamphetamine and many of the analogue controlled substances would be at the top of the addiction scale. Drug rehab is successful in about 5% of meth addicts. And I've had people testify that they would crawl over crystal meth to get to an analogue like a-PVP or Pentylone.

Ha, ha, ha --

It could be dubbed the "Schadenfreude Classic." The Scott Tenorman of the week selection would be epic. Reading Texas football blogs after one of their beatdowns will make you feel much better. The comments are gold, Jerry, gold.

As an alum in his 50s . . .

I watched the entire game. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I like Hoke as a person, and he has done a tremendous job in recruiting. That said, the evidence as he begins his fourth year suggests that he is simply in over his head as a coach and a developer of talent. I hope I'm wrong and he gets the ship turned around, because as other posters have pointed out, the coaching landscape is bleak at best, absent Brian's HHM scenario.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Feelingsball is a form of revisionist history that blames a man who had two full recruiting classes and who, as PurpleStuff points out, recruited a number of quality players, hardly leaving the cupboard bare. Little furry animals are going to be endangered if this ridiculous blame game continues.

Seconded

As Wendyk5 and you point out, there seems to be a lack of mental toughness and resiliency on the team. What I was most disappointed about last night was that it seemed that the team had just accepted its fate by the middle of the 3rd quarter. We may get outplayed, but I never want to see another team put in more effort. When guys are laughing on the sidelines when getting our hats handed to us, that is a problem. The competitive fire and will to go down fighting with all you have used to be a hallmark of Michigan football. Sadly, as you point out, we seem to be going the way of "Sparty noooooo."

Re: Martin was right

Tater - you've hit the nail on the head with your evaluation of Brandon. He has an enormous ego, and told us as Michigan fans that Brady Hoke would be the head coach for a long time. Brady Hoke who "doesn't need a map to get around Ann Arbor." I wonder how willing Brandon is going to be to swallow his pride and admit that his coaching choice, while pleasing to the old guard Michigan Men, isn't working out quite as planned. I'd be surprised if he doesn't dig his heels in and leave Coach Hoke in place unless the wheels come completely off the cart.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Exactly. The silence from the former players, who just couldn't seem to shut up a few years ago, is deafening.

Thanks, SC

Space Coyote - thanks for the in- depth explanation of the pros and cons of the up-tempo offense. Very helpful, as always, for those of us who don't understand all the Xs and Os.

Tempo

The plodding tempo of our offense last year was maddening. No real time to check into different plays at the line. Up-tempo teams have always given us fits (See: Indiana 2013). I could never understand why we haven't consistently tried to run an up-tempo offense. Hopefully, Nuss will get us there.

ND Uniformz

Yeesh. Awful. Simply awful. When did Dave Brandon sneak a clone into the AD's office at ND? Another program with storied tradition tossing it out the window for a few marketing bucks.

Do we really want to gauge

Do we really want to gauge our reaction to Braxton's unfortunate injury based upon what the folks at 11W say about us?  I sure hope not.  I don't wish injury upon anyone.  We're talking about a game here.  Hopefully this young man will heal up and be able to continue playing football someday.

I AM GROOT

How does GROOT have almost 4,000 M Go Points?

"Pissy and poorly written."

Not. As Chait and Blueloosh point out, "semantics" set the tone of the debate. Happens in court all the time. No doubt the defense counsel for any of these players who ends up being charged (if any, of course) will argue that this was a "fight" and not a premeditated attack. Why? Because a jury will forgive a fight and acquit someone if they think it was "just a fight." Chait points out that these guys didn't go over as a roving party of investigators ready to obtain the confession of a wrongdoer. No one with an ounce of brains would believe that. When the media frames this event as a "fight," it starts to define public opinion, even subconsciously. A spontaneous fight involving mutual combat sheds little, if any, negative light on MSU or on Coach Dantonio. If a sizeable group of MSU football players, knowing they are going to hunt down and beat up someone who dissed Winston in the bar, all head over to a residence hall to exact revenge, ski masks or no, that does reflect upon the institution and the coach. Post-Feagin, I would expect to see a parallel "win at all costs" headline. I presume the same editor reviews the articles printed in the sports section. Does this not suggest some institutional bias, IM4UMICH?

As StevieY19 points out, the Freep calls the parents of the MSU students here to get their side of the story, but no one from the Freep bothered to try to speak to the parents of U-M players over "practicegate." Unless you are willing to accept that the editor is an incompetent buffoon, it sure does look like bias from here.

You missed the point.

Are you a medical doctor, Doctor Worm? You surely aren't a "Juris Doctor," or if so, display a stunning lack of understanding of how the criminal justice system really works on a day-to-day basis. You also seem to conflate Brian's criticism with Rosenburg with criticism of Coach Dantonio. His point isn't that no one deserves a second chance. There was no indication that Feagin was coming to Michigan with baggage or that he was somehow getting a second chance. Feagin got here, sold cocaine, and was appropriately dismissed from the team. Rosenberg, who has admitted that he doesn't like RR and wants him gone, looks at the Feagin situation and lambastes RR for shady recruiting. Winston was given a second chance by Coach Dantonio. We could debate the merits of that, but when Winston repeated his assaultive behavior, he was appropriately dismissed from the team.

Brian's point is that unlike the Feagin situation (where RR had no reason to think that Feagin was slinging coke), Coach Dantonio knew that Winston had hospitalized someone in a fight, then gave him the second chance. (As someone else in this thread pointed out, a six-month sentence on a misdemeanor in this state is rare, and reflects a serious offense, which was pled down from a felony). Rosenberg then defends Coach Dantonio's decision. No talk of shady recruiting. No 20/20 hindsight. What is amazing to us on the Maize and Blue side of the fence is that others can't see that Rosenberg has an obvious bias. Full disclusure: I spent some time at MSU as a grad student. I just asked one of my close friends who is a big MSU fan whether she agreed that if it were U-M and RR in the crosshairs on the frat fight involving ski masks vice MSU, that there would have been an explosion discussing the "erosion of family values," the "loss of institutional control," and such all over the media. She said she agreed, and she is no fan of RR.

If the alleged numbers in this recent fight pan out, I'm sure Coach Dantonio will dismiss others from the team. I'm equally sure that Rosenberg won't say anything critical about Dantonio or the program. If you can't see the difference, you need to take the green and white shades off your head.

Focus, please

Whether nobody cares about how many games we won before WWI isn't the point. I'd venture to say that most people couldn't care less how many we won before Bo took over. That isn't the point either. Prestige is based in part upon the rich history and traditions of a program as well as its overall success. Taking your logic to the extreme, I guess it doesn't matter that we have the greatest number of wins or the highest (or close to it) winning percentage in college football history. The point of the original post is that we shouldn't be penalized because the official AP national championship wasn't begun until the 1930s. History and tradition are part of prestige, as well as the mystique of the great college football programs. I dare say that Miami has little prestige in the eyes of many, given their outlaw image and lack of sportsmanship, whether or not they won 3 NCs.

Best Michigan RB

Wheatley. Just loved a game called by Keith Jackson with his signature "Tyroooooone Wheatley". A big ol' hoss with hands.

Touchdown Tim a close second. Does anyone else remember the game at the Big House when he first got carries as the new tailback, and every time the PA guy said his name, the crowd, loving the name, would roar in approval? Classic.
