After horrendous outings last time out, I'm not surprised to see Shark pitch fairly well (and career he's been much better at night as well) and I'd expect to see Sale firing on all cylinders tonight. Sort of bad timing for the Tigers to have the starters line up the way they did. Quintana's turned it around after a rough start to the year too, and you don't get to see either of the Sox's lousy 4/5 starters.

We should feel pessimistic not because of this but because Kentucky should pretty much always be presumed to lead for these kinds of guys. Then if we land one, be happy.

I'm glad he gets to pursue what he wants to do while staying involved with the team, and I look forward to seeing him start on Senior Night in a few years, because there's no way the NCAA isn't giving Michigan a waiver for that.

And Yordano Ventura has been at the center of three of those. He was the one who yelled at Trout, he plunked Lawrie intentionally, and he started the crap last night. He got fined after the Lawrie thing, so he's definitely getting suspended for this incident, and I suspect a strong warning from the commish's office that next time it's going to be double digit games suspension.

Proviso East was in my high school's conference. I remember going to a game against that squad, our team wasn't really that bad, about a .500 team. I think Proviso was up by about 30 at the half. Hilariously outmatched, they were playing a different game than our team.

1991 Proviso East. Undefeated Illinois state champions, three seniors who went on to play in the NBA (Michael Finley, Sherrell Ford, Donnie Boyce), and the rest of the team was so good that even after those three guys graduated, they still won the state title the next year.
Crazy part is Finley, the one who had the long fruitful NBA career, was not the biggest star on that team. Sherrell Ford was the #1 guy, but he was a Prop 48 that had to sit out a year of college and ended up at UIC instead of a major conference school as a result, and didn't develop as well as Finley did.
I don't count private schools that can recruit among the best because they can choose their team. Proviso East was public, didn't (couldn't) recruit, but had a hell of a program. In addition to those guys, they also sent Doc Rivers, Steven Hunter, Dee Brown, Shannon Brown to the NBA, and piles of other guys to college programs.

Typical "popcorning" involves dumping popcorn to fill up someone's entire car interior, or at least most of it. It's definitely a NBA rookie hazing thing, you can find examples of other teams doing it, just search "filling car with popcorn" or something along those lines.

My dislike of Adidas comes mainly from the bad quality of their uniforms that resulted in numerous torn jersies for the basketball team, and some of the horrendous ideas they've had for unis, especially in basketball (this year's cummerbund/fanny pack, the Zubaz-esque ones, the ones where the uni number is a yellow that doesn't show up on TV, etc)
|4 weeks 5 days ago||The cowbell Go Blue, the||
The cowbell Go Blue, the chanting Go Blue across the stadium, other ways people get noise going, those tend to be discouraged by piped-in music. The stadium experience wasn't broken in the early 2000s. It wasn't stone-age, and I like the bigger video boards we have now, but to me music at college football games should be the band when you have a great band the way a Michigan or Ohio State does. Pipe in stuff when the band isn't able to play because they're heading down to the field for halftime, or have finished the halftime show and are getting back to their seats, etc.
Some of the piped-in music can be fun (like Norfleet's Atomic Dog routine). Use it for fun stuff like that and I think everyone is cool with it. Use it all the time and it becomes another generic football experience.

So Spike apparently has impingements in both hips? Ow. An impingement also sometimes results in a torn labrum. The shaving down of the bone isn't necessarily major in and of itself, but there's probably other damage in there, and the body does need time to recover from that along with the surgery itself.
(Source: wife who has had two hip surgeries, one of which included shaving down the bone)

That's not true for everyone in patent law. If you have a EE or Computer Engineering degree, the market is absolutely fantastic. If you have a Ph.D in Chem or Biochem, the market is decent. If you have pretty much anything else, the market is pretty meh at this point. I, of course, am in the last group. The only people I know making 500k or more are BigLaw or midsize law partners.

If you get out with no debt, I have no problem with someone going to law school even if they aren't sure they want to be a lawyer. Your only sacrifice is time, really. Frankly, I found law school to be quite enjoyable.
I steer people away from law school who would be taking out loans and don't know exactly what they want to do. There just aren't the jobs out there to support it, and a many people who graduate end up with no job in law, or a low-paying one, and have crushing non-dischargeable debt that they can't pay back. Even those who do get a BigLaw job that allows them to pay down those loans can feel trapped in that job longer than they'd want because they need that higher salary to pay the loans.

Kerr was a good analyst, but I think Raft's enthusiasm and style actually mesh better with Nantz/Hill so far than Kerr did with Nantz/Anthony. Also, Raft is just pretty great in general. Though I'll miss him with Uncle Verne, he brings a completely different presence and style to the Nantz team that I think adds a lot to the broadcast.
Kerr with Marv Albert and Mike Fratello for NBA on TNT was great. Both Fratello and Kerr were good analysts as well. You could tell they all had worked together extensively and enjoyed it too, particularly with Albert and Kerry both having a rather dry/sarcastic sense of humor that at times would be directed at Fratello.

The slow pace can kinda suck, and dropping the shotclock to 30 probably bumps a game a bit closer to where pace was 15 years ago. I'm fine with that. But these games of timeoutsketball (with a side of official review 5 minute delays) get pretty aggravating.

Hard to blame a guy who is presumably "going pro in something other than sports" for wanting to focus on what he's going pro in. Football takes a lot of time away from that, not to mention the physical pain and potential for major injury. The team will miss him, but who can begrudge someone for focusing on their future?

I don't find Kuma's to be that great, unless they've improved the actual burger patty itself. That's part of what makes Au Cheval better in the opinion of many, the actual burger meat tastes better there.
My favorite is Owen & Engine. House made bun, house-ground meat blend that includes short rib, seasoning, and grilled onions. You could add cheese, egg or bacon, but it doesn't need it, which tells you all you need to know about the quality of the burger itself.

Eh, he wasn't super accurate off the tee even at his best. He was ridiculous though once you got a short iron or wedge in his hands, and he drained lots of putts, while his game around the greens was very good too. He doesn't have any of that right now, really. And the distance advantage he had over many of his competitors is gone.

One reason I think Walton's toe is obviously a significant part is that he (at least in a feelingsball way, because I don't have the data) seemed to finish much better last year at or near the rim. And we know he's at the very least not less-strong than last year after another year in the S&C program. So the explanation has to be the injury is killing his explosion both in driving and jumping?
