My wife rowed at a different school and the indoor facility is a pretty big thing. They had to row outside in fricking cold temps for several months out of the year and eventually the river they rowed on would get clogged up with ice and they couldn't practice at all. I'm sure the team will still row outside when possible but being able to practice through the winter or in crap weather is a pretty nice thing.

Yeah, that's half the boos. The first delay of game was a horrid error, but you then have 4th and 6 at the 37 with not a lot of time left against a bad team your defense has been wiping out when they aren't given the ball in Michigan's red zone already. And for some reason go Ferentz on it instead of going for it.

I'm hoping they use NBA coaches, or maybe even better, NBA assistants that have designs on being a head coach at some point.
Or use NCAA women's coaches for the men and vice versa.

The best thing you can say for Goodell is that he hasn't crashed a plane with a perfect autopilot system into a goddamned mountain. That ain't saying much.

I am behind the players. The coaches, however, are highly paid employees who are fair game for our ire and speculation and whatnot.

Because if there's one group that is well-known for not drinking, it's Irish Catholics.

It's becoming more common as even in-state prices of state schools in some states in particular have really skyrocketed. A lot of those state schools have some guaranteed spots for transfers from specific CCs too.

You may waffle at the price of the Thermapen. Suck it up and buy one. So much better than any other instant read thermometer, and it's not even close. Great even if you're not smoking stuff, I use it on roasts, on pork chops that I cook slowly in the oven then finish on a blazingly hot cast iron skillet, etc. No more guessing on the grill, you know exactly when to pull things off (I had become pretty good at the thumb test, but the thermapen leaves no doubt)

That is amazing. If there was a god, you would get so many upvotes that the Bolivianation of your points would be offset.
Also, I fully expect to see Ace, Mathlete, and everyone else on the site besides Brian use that when mentioning a nickleback.

Well, he is The Mathlete and not The Grammarlete or The CorrectUsageOfApostropheslete after all
(seriously though, good stuff as always)

I think Miller being recruited under the zone-heavy Rodriguez staff also makes him a more plausible candidate this year than last year, with an OC that heavily uses inside zone now running the offensive show as opposed to last year's poo poo platter (yes, misspelling intentional) of an offense.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||We all need to remember that||
We all need to remember that those bulletproof recruiting classes, when he's had a full cycle to recruit, are only juniors and reshirt sophomores at the oldest this season. Even if you have decided Hoke isn't the long term answer, he hasn't been so obviously bad as to warrant getting rid of him before he's had a full opportunity to show what he can do with a full team of his recruiting classes (as opposed to, say, a Tyrone Willingham). We need to see what these offensive lines look like as upperclassmen. The defense sure looks like it's going to be there this year, now full of Hoke's guys. I feel like the offense could follow suit and be good enough to get back to a 10 or 11 win (or more) type season in 2015, but we can't be running for Ann Arbor Torch & Pitchfork this year. Hopefully people have finally learned that lesson.

|4 weeks 1 day ago||It probably has. Rafael||
It probably has. Rafael Palmeiro won a gold glove when he played about 20 games in the field and spent most of the season at DH, and that was voting done AFTER the season.
With two or three returning starters who were actually quite good potentially being beaten out for their jobs, you have to think the back 7 is going to be pretty damn good this year.

Of course Rosenberg likes him, he's a "Michigan Man" who talks in cliches about toughness and smashmouth football, and he's not RichRod.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Barrett had the redshirt year||
Barrett had the redshirt year to study the playbook but with the injury he might have only slightly more reps than a true freshman. They're probably going to lose a couple of games as a result. Even in a Meyer offense there's still decisionmaking that you can't reproduce in film study.
Of course, by the last game of the season he'll have had plenty of reps (barring injury) or he'll have been bad enough that they've already made a switch.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Nope, there's a fund each||
Nope, there's a fund each school has (I forget what it's called) and they are allowed to use it on things like that. A&M used it to help convince a guy who might have left for the draft to stick around another year by covering a fat insurance policy on him.

As a Chicago resident I'll enjoy going to the game, but to do this after season ticket renewals is pretty terrible form.
And with any luck the weather will be better than last year's February 7, when it was a balmy 4 degrees for the high and wind chills well below zero.

Lots of screens with guys like Norfleet, Hayes and Canteen around doesn't bother me all that much, now that we have an offensive coordinator who will actually run the screen plays that make sense for that type of guy. 3-wides with the slot and Darboh or Chesson to one side as the blocking WR for a bubble, for example, seems like it would work pretty well.

I will say this: Soldier Field will be a much better place to watch an outdoor hockey game than Michigan Stadium or Spartan Stadium based on how the seating was built.

|6 weeks 2 days ago||Even if he's "just a shooter"||
Even if he's "just a shooter" and is a guy off the bench, that's a guy worth having around. And he's tall. And he's already played a year in a Beilein-influenced offense under one of Beilein's old assistants. And he'll have a year in a S&C program that has produced some pretty good results so far before he gets on the court.
I'm not seeing a ton of downside here. I mean, people freaked out over using a scholarship on Spike at the time and he's been a contributor to the team the last two years. Plus, unless this kid completely blows up (a good problem to have) we're going to have a 6'8"+ 3-bomber when he's 23, 24 years old because he took a prep year and is now redshirting due to the transfer.

2001, first year of law school, against Miami (Not That Miami).
It was Ben Roethlisberger's first college start, actually. You could see he was legit talent already, Michigan's D was all over him but he stood in pretty well, made some bad mistakes as freshmen are wont to do, but the arm and talent were obvious. There were a few "wait, this guy is a freshman at Miami?" type plays. And as he does in the NFL, he was taking an absolute beating out there and kept getting up.
