Although they'd probably want a bigger arena (theirs only holds 2000) they're a consistently good club squad, and won the tourney a couple times in the last 10 years.

Young is going to be a chucker at near-Kobe levels this season for Oregon. Should be interesting to see who chases him around in Brooklyn. He's going to shoot a lot no matter what.
|1 week 3 hours ago||Eh, I get why they say it||
Eh, I get why they say it that way. They're not going to say it's for domestic violence because, as they note, there is a process for that in the justice system. But we can see the pictures and read the details, and the standards of the team don't require proof beyond a reasonable doubt, particularly when the player involved already has a strike against him.

There's a non-zero chance that Jordan will be coaching Butler next season. No one but a few people at Butler seem to know what is up with their current coach (on leave for unspecified medical reasons), and I'm not totally sure that the assistant they have heading them up on an interim basis (who was previously a HC at Gardner-Webb) would get the full time job if Miller ends up resigning rather than just being on leave.

A bit off the train lines, but Temperance Beer Company, 2000 Dempster St, is a brewery with a tap room and their beers are quite good. They aren't a restaurant but they do have menus to order delivery. Won a silver at this year's GABF for English-style IPA.
Smylie Brothers (1615 Oak) has an event with a flight of 2 of their beers, 2 Founders (Rubaeus and Breakfast Stout) and 2 more from 3 Sheeps (Sheboygan, WI). As I understand it that place gets extremely busy and reviews are all over the place on it.

Um, it's actually supposed to be 15 degrees colder than last year, just as windy, and there is a chance of rain/snow/wintry mix in the forecast.

Some would say Jeff Meyer ruined Tom Crean's program. Tom Crean would definitely tell you that Jeff Meyer ruined it. We look at it from a different standpoint. The refs didn't ruinTom Crean's program. Dan Dakich didn't ruin Tom Crean's program. Nor did Jeff Meyer ruin Tom Crean's program. We truly believed that Tom Crean ruined Tom Crean's program. And he can look in the mirror, and know that.

With KBD and Tate being guys that Beilein targeted pretty early in the process, and given Beilein's track record in that department, I got a bad feeling that OSU has a better recruiting class than they're getting credit for, and it was already considered the best in the conference. Yikes.

The Cubs have largely eschewed pitching prospects in that farm system build. Their starting pitching is Arrieta and a bunch of back end guys at best (Hendricks was probably a fluke and is generally considered maybe a 4 at best, and their best pitching prospect in the minors is a guy few think can hold up as a starter) so they're going to have to fill in by either buying those starters or trading some of that position depth for it.
Damn near everyone thinks they'll be the ones who end up with Lester (he doesn't cost a draft pick if you sign him either), and Masterson is exactly the kind of guy they have been signing in the offseason the last couple of years as it is. Peavy has been flipped by teams at the last two deadlines, so that'd probably be the though there (and amusingly, said teams who traded for him won the title both years, so obviously if you want to win the title you should trade for Jake Peavy at the deadline). Robertson would surprise me because I can't imagine giving up a draft pick for a reliever, but if they already decide to do it with Martin (and that pick would be their second rounder as their first is protected I believe) then they may as well go for the gusto and grab some others who would cost a pick.

We left the 2002 Michigan State game early. It was a very unpleasant cold, and really, we'd gotten our laughs in at the horrible MSU team (it was right after Smoker was suspended)

|3 weeks 44 min ago||Of course, if they're 8-0,||
Of course, if they're 8-0, one of sins of Brandon (he blew the football hire) doesn't exist. And we would all still complain about the corporatization of the Michigan sports experience, but it's a lot easier to deal with it if you appear to be getting results, i.e., getting something for all that money that they're wringing out of the fans.
But that's the thing - run it more like a pro team, and make the experience less college (and all the fuzzies that go with that) and more pro, and you get treated like a pro team, where fans say "screw this" when the team isn't winning and refuse to pay the pro prices.
|3 weeks 4 hours ago||My reaction to the Glasgow||
My reaction to the Glasgow play wasn't St Kovacs, but "are there any more Glasgow brothers who want to walk on here"
Also, the student-athletes as customers of the AD is pretty significant sign that the AD thought of things in the wrong way, and that mindset set the tone for how things have gone the last few years. The student-athletes are not the customers. They are not buying the product. They ARE the product (and, gulp, employees). When people are your product, you should treat those people well because happy people make for better product. It sounds like the Brandon administration did that well. That's good. We all want our student-athletes taken care of. It's part of why we flipped our shit over Morris.
But if your attitude is that the student-athletes are the customers, not the alums and fans and whatnot? It explains a lot of how things have been operating, that's for sure.

|3 weeks 4 days ago||You can actually do something||
You can actually do something very similar with a turkey as was done with the chicken here. Definitely spatchcock the turkey. You can do the compound butter thing (parsley, oregano, maybe sage, just pick some spices to put in the butter rather than using the bbq rub in it) as well, or just dry-brine the thing.
Read Kenji's stuff on Thanksgiving turkey at the Food Lab on Serious Eats. He experiments with multiple ways of doing things. Example: http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/11/the-food-lab-the-truth-about-brining-turkey-thanksgiving.html

These are not entries, as only one of them is me, and I don't live in town and can't get up there for this weekend.
I may or may not have run naked down the street in the student ghetto neighborhood. More than once. Not part of the naked mile.
Another friend was drunk and got the brilliant idea to take one of those traffic horse roadblock things. He then noticed a cop in the area, so he left. And then 10 minutes later came back to try to take the horse again. He did not notice the cop was still there. Whoops.
Two other friends were walking from one party to another with the good ol' red Solo cup full of beer. Cop stopped them and gave them a ticket for open container. Cop also told them that if they needed something between parties they should just smoke weed instead because the ticket was about $100 less.
Ah, Ann Arbor.

Well, if the Regents are inexplicably breaking down on party lines, he has his ammo.
Personally, our AD could be a lab-created supercyborg implanted with the combination of FDR and JFK for all I care, if Cyborg JFDRK fucked things up as badly as Brandon has, I'd want his half-robot ass fired.

Don't worry, once Wisconsin starts their usual bumslayer ways, they'll move up again.
Really though, this will be the first year where no one is going to say "wait, why is Wisconsin so high" on his rankings, because everyone actually expects them to be that good.

Purdue has actually figured it out of late. The two weeks prior to the Minnesota game they had ground Illinois to a fine pulp, and then ran it for over 8 yards a carry against Michigan State when you excise sacks.
