Hockey pet peeve: "when a teammate tips a puck in on you, which is exactly how my first collegiate goal against happened. Thanks, Copper."

Obviously Dombrowski was joking around, but I not sure the entire A's farm system would be enough for the White Sox to trade Sale given his performance and contract.

Probably heresy to say it, but Verlander would make a nice setup/closer in the playoffs. Just let him rear back and fire for an inning or two. If he doesn't put it back together as a starter it might be a reasonable option.

Good thing they didn't try to acquire any bullpen help because apparently just putting on the Tigers uniform causes bullpen arms to burninate games

Have to assume Castellanos and Smyly would be gone in a Price trade since the Tigers minor league system has pretty much nothing left in it, at least as far as anything good anywhere near the majors. Maybe Iglesias too.

I believe last year's team stunk because of Lewan about as much as I believe the Red Sox stunk this year because of AJ Pierzynski.
Which is to say, I don't believe it at all. Chemistry doesn't call plays, it doesn't cause guys to just completely fail at blocking, etc. There is chemistry involved in a good offensive line but it comes from playing together a lot and knowing what the other guys are going to do, not "man, that guy next to me is a dick, why don't I not block this guy and get my QB splattered"

Cespedes is only signed through next year and his reputation outstrips his production. They have so many platoon toys now, they're going to be a real pain in the ass. Start a righty and they send in their righty mashers. Start a lefty and you see the bulk of the lineup turn over. Even more so in the playoffs, when you can easily drop a pitcher or two from the roster given the days off that are involved and add some other specialists to the bench.
Lester/Spellcheck/Kazmir/Gray is a pretty solid playoff rotation.

Eh, pretty much every year of college was better than senior year of high school. Might be different for athletes, but then again, the NTDP guys aren't exactly having the typical high school experience either.

I've sat in the north end zone for all the Michigan games I've been to at Purdue due to going with alum relatives. The seats are fine, I had a great view of the hook-and-lateral play that beat us in '08 :(

There actually is a weight limit for heavyweight wrestlers (285, was 275 until about 10 years ago), but I have to imagine it's pretty rare for any decent high school heavyweight to be cutting weight to get to the limit. You run into the limit when your a friggin' freak like Brock Lesnar, but I'm sure he wasn't up against the limit in high school either.

The keeper is almost always the least of our problems. It's really the one spot on the field the US has truly produced world-class players. Timmy is great, but Guzan's no slouch himself, and surely others will show up as well.

Algeria has been playing fairly well. Nigeria not so much. But Germany is highly unlikely to lose at this stage. It's been forever since they've gone out before the quarterfinals, and this team looks strong.

I suspect that while Zingermans is probably too expensive as you note, I think a fair number of athletes are actually around over the summer, working out, taking a class to reduce their load during the season, etc.;

They have a ton of talent, but they are very young (3rd youngest squad in the tournament). Their starters' ages, by formation, are
25-28-28-27 (the veteran part of the team)
And a striker who absolutely would be starting if he wasn't injured is also 23. I think part of their "loaded with talent but haven't looked like they put it together yet" is that so many of these guys are young enough that they just don't have the team reps with each other that some of the other squads have. They're already dark horse contenders. They're going to be one of the favorites at Euro 2016 and probably 2018 World Cup.
(By comparison, the US squad is:

I think even at the high level most guys are just trying to put it on goal, since that almost always results in a goal in that situation. Get too cute with it and missing the net entirely is a far greater sin. It was just bad luck that he ended up hitting it right into the defender on the goal line.

Bedoya being the faster of the two and a better defensive player, I'd be surprised if he doesn't start. They can tell him to blow it out and not worry about trying to last all 90 even moreso than Iceman. By the time Zusi would come in to take Bedoya's spot, CR7 shouldn't be quite as zippy.

Washington DC is all Federal.
Of course, FedEx Field itself is in Maryland so state protection could help them there, but stores in DC itself could sell without restriction.

Here's the thing: they're doing everything on that right side, but until that very last play of the half Beasley was typically in good position and those crosses weren't easy to put on target, and the central guys were usually in good position to take care of business.

An elbow to the head like that should get you carded in most cases. Sometimes it is a straight red if you have a particularly sensitive ref.
It is utterly mindblowing that the guy wasn't booked for kicking Dempsey in the face though.
