What?

"You are just as guilty as Joe Paterno of putting football above crime and victims."

I don't agree with this at all. I can't speak for who you are responding to, but that goes too far.

No punishment is going to fit the crime. The leaders will likely see prison time though. I think a lot of people want revenge on PSU because the crimes are so shocking.I think a postseason ban will be the likely punishment on the program. To me that seems like the probable "compromise".

Feb 2001?

The date of the email looked funny to me. I kept hearing Mcqueary witnessed the shower incident in 2002, and that was what was reported leading up to the trial, but I looked it up and Mcqueary changed it to 2001 in his testimony.

Just saying if anyone else noticed the same thing.

Relax

I read it that way and laughed to myself. I'm not that anal to seriously correct people. I was just sharing something slightly humorous.

you

You misspelled chain.

I wonder

I wonder if they had to check with compliance first.

Only half kidding. I agree, kidney donation goes in the plus column.

I wouldn't worry about that

Space Emperor is a Michigan Man.

I bet bowls

I don't care what the article says, I bet the end result is the Rose and Sugar Bowls are used as semis. I predict that as long as the champs of the B12, B1G, Pac and SEC are in the top 4 they meet in their contracted bowl game, there will not be seeds, so 1 could play 2 before the NC. When the conference champ doesn't qualify, they will not get into the bowl and will be replaced by the team that qualified.

We are not sure

Where do we draw the line based on accusations that aren't charged? The Duke lacrosse case is a rare exception, but I don't think we should assume initial reports are true. Was it full corrobaration, or partial from the teammate? I don't remember the details from the article. We have questions, but we don't actually know.

The weird thing

The weird thing is that he doesn't have a garage, just a circle driveway. Don't tell me that the garage is out of the picture. I don't see a garage and I am therefore sticking with the belief that a garage does not exist.

Slightly OT

I've noticed that Nebraska isn't on the schedule, I'm disappointed that there isn't a complete round robin for Big Ten play. The newcomers have a good program and should be playing the top program in the Big Ten. Hopefully that changes in the future.

Brandon likes the spotlight

A man willing to schedule Appy State seems like the kind of guy to schedule Arizona.

Good for Denard

I'll admit that I was one who thought the team might be better with Denard playing more of a Percy Harvin role and Devin playing QB. Most people arguing for Devin at QB did not want Denard "benched". So I don't think that word is accurate. Credit to Denard for improving when I thought he was stagnating. I never stopped rooting for him, just questioning if he had reached his ceiling as a passer. I'm not holding my breath when he passes anymore.

Pitt

The Backyard Brawl is their big game.

It is based on more than the MSU game.

Granted fans don't have enough evidence to say Gardner should play, but Denard has been making people cringe with his passes for awhile now. The loss just opened the door for people to say what they have been thinking. People tend to stay quiet after a win, although some people have touched on it.

When the D takes away the running game

When the D takes away the running game the qb needs to be able to exploit the holes in the passing game. Michigan has good receivers. Devin appears (with limited playing time as evidence) to be able to throw where he wants to, although it may or may not be the right read. Denard is like my golf game, he knows where he wants to go with the ball, but doesn't consistently get it to where he is aiming.

As of now, BTN

8 pm, Monday, September 5.

ND is still evaluating their options.

The fact that they haven't made a decision yet, which doesn't seem it should take that long, and the reemergence of realignment has gotten me to waste time speculating about B1G things. I know, unlikely.

T-Bob?

I can't be the only one who read that as Tackle Bob Hebert, as in the position he plays.

As mentioned below, Bobby Hebert to Anthony Carter was fun to watch.

A&M isn't a cultural fit with the B1G

But they do fit academically. I think it would be difficult for them to sell a move to the Big Ten with how their base has embraced the possible move to the SEC. It would be funny to see A&M on BTN while Texas still doen't have a carrier for the Longhorn Network.

I doubt the SEC goes to 16

Although I wouldn't be too surprised. I am confident they will go to 14.

Wasn't

Wasn't Penn State the biggest temporarily durting renovations? I could be wrong, but I thought that was the case.

Of the 4

Of the 4 major pro team sports, I think the baseball playoffs are the closest to a coin flip in each series and is the least likely to crown the best team as the champion. The shortened rotations and off days during the playoffs make it completely different from the regular season.

The best regular seaon team doesn't make it to the World Series as often as they did prior to the expansion of the playoffs obviously. In short, the regular season doesn't matter once the playoffs begin.

I think

I think Crean married Harbaugh's sister.

Yes, the growth spurt

The growth spurt is a clue that he may be a late bloomer, and worth the "risk' of a greyshirt offer. I think Dennis Rodman was 5' 11" when he graduated high school. I know it's a different sport and I'm not saying that Clark will be a comparable athlete, I'm just making the point that some people physically mature later than others. If that is the case here, he could be a real steal.

Exactly, recruiting sites aren't everything

Coaches were able to recruit before the internet, they have their own criteria. If they offer a kid who is ranked low because he didn't market himself by going to all of the camps the sites pay attention to, it doesn't mean the coaches don't think he is a better fit than someone highly ranked.

Recruiting sites are for the fans. It's like complaining about an NFL team drafting someone ranked below one of Mel Kiper's favorites.

I don't care

I don't care about helmet stickers being used or not, but Michigan would not be copying Ohio State. Helmet stickers began at Miami (OH) in 1965, coached by Bo Schembechler. OSU copied Bo.

There are

There are nine redshirt juniors by my count. I would guess about four (not guessing who) don't get a fifth year and with let's say about four transfers and the 18 spots that are currently available we get 26.

All M and N

Pretty easy if you remember it as Iowa plus all Ms and Ns.

This is

This is the start of the three-of-a-kind trend which beats a pair.

Happy employees

There is a saying that people end up working in one position above their skill level or something like that. I think people are happier and more productive when they are working at the level that best fits them. Some employers get themselves in trouble by pushing the move up or move out culture onto their employees. I think the mid-level employees turn over too much to be efficient.

part of the past

I think TV bans were effective when it was rare for games to be televised, like in the 1980's, I don't recall hearing of one being used recently. As someone said, it hurts the opponent as well in this era.

I'm waiting

I'm waiting for someone to create a gif of O(prah)SU giving away cars. I have a feeling compliance should have known about the different cars Pryor, Clarett and probably others were borrowing/test driving. Continuing the pattern started at YSU with their star QB.

Hey, no politics

As far as Tressel is concerned, let's just say that different people probably see different sides of him. There are too many test drives amongst players at Youngstown State, Clarett, and Pryor to not think there isn't a connection. Those players were all stars on their teams, and may have needed a little extra to commit to Tressel. Other players have probably grown up in Ohio dreaming of playing for the Buckeyes and don't need any extras. Not every player is getting a car to test drive, just the ones who are difference makers and are looking for it.

Either that, or I've been throwing my money away on car rentals when I fly somewhere for a vacation. Next time I'm going to go to a dealership and test drive a car for a week.

With so many

With so many of the teams on their local FSN doesn't Fox likely lose viewers on their family of networks? I would have watched at least some of the Tigers game last night and didn't watch anything on any other Fox network. I would bet there were fewer people watching mlb last night than there would have been with local broadcasts.

Money

I'm sure everyone knows money will determine where it goes. I would prefer outdoors in Chicago. If they are going to take the slot the Big 12 had and play at night, the conference leaders have to change their feelings about late games after October. I would guess the ratings are higher and that the networks pay more for a night game and it ends up in Indy.

edit: Wow, I type slow. The same $ point made while I was writing this.

I see people complain

I see and hear people complain about 'Big Blue' a lot. I've heard it enough that I can accept it as another way to refer to U-M sports. It is used often enough that people know who is being talked about, at least in the context of football. It's a losing battle and too insignificant to fight against. There are a lot of teams wearing blue out there, attaching big to the color is actually meant as a compliment. Not to get OSU like because they call themselve THE, but since 'Big Blue' is mostly used by outsiders it is a little like saying THE blue. Let's embrace it.

Or a good thing.

Playing freshman is not bad if they are good. Not saying or predicting Countess equlas him, but Charles Woodson played a lot, and well, as a freshman.

To answer the OP I think it'll be Rawls.

edit - after reading below I'm changing to Wile.

Throwbacks

I hope the throwbacks bring back the white socks from the Bo era, I like those better than the blue. I'm also okay with a gray facemask with numbers on the sides of the helmet. But keep them as close to resembling actual throwbacks as possible with allowances for technological changes in equipment.

He lied to the NCAA

He knew he broke a rule and lied to cover it up, but if all he was covering up was having a recruit to his home for dinner, and if that is all it was, it seems minor. This looks like the cover up being bigger than the crime. Bottom line: follow the rules. I'm not going to villify Pearl over this. If things keep happening with him, then I'll change my mind. The first offense I'll allow him to be a fallible human.

If more

If more kids had parents like Grant Hill's, regardless of race, they would be better off. Saying blacks only have themselves to blame ignores a lot. On an individual basis it makes some sense, but in general, attitudes built and confirmed over generations of denied opportunities due to actual racism change slowly. People really were killed in the 1960's for trying to vote while black.

I wouldn't expect Hoke to say

I wouldn't expect Hoke to say anything bone-headed while running a clean program. If he does something against the rules he may not be skilled at talking his way out of it. I expect him to run a clean program and hold everyone accountable. If he fails to do that, then yes, he may say something bone-headed. Other than that he seems like an upfront guy.

What if

What if the offense takes a small step back, which I expect, but the defense takes a big step forward? A scheme change seems necessary with the defense. But, we are getting close to devolving into the same arguments.

FWIW, I don't think the scheme was the problem with the offense in 2007, it was the execution. That does go on coaching with the additional factor of Henne being injured. That same offense worked pretty well in 2006.

I also think the RR spread would have worked better given more time. The glaring problem in 2007 was that the defense couldn't stop Appy State or Oregon so everyone got excited when we got one of those offenses too.

Umm

You support him but....

1. You doubt that what he did at Ball State and San Diego State means he can succeed at Michigan. Okay, fair enough.

2. The coaches don't know how to coach Denard. That is just your opinion, only time will tell.

3. He is recruiting too heavily in the midwest. I think offers are going out all over the country, so I disagree. Although there are advantages to having a stronghold in the area you play in.

4. You expect him to say something boneheaded at a press conference. Based on? I agree that he isn't polished, but that doesn't mean he is going to say something damaging. Actually polished people say stupid thing all of the time, but it comes out smoothly.

Ditto

System Tool got me too. Webroot Antivirus failed me.

That is so wrong

Not your comment, but players have to sit out a year when they transfer already, and scholarships are for one year and then renewed by the school. The schools have too much power.

Sorta

Sorta like the Big Ten.

The victim's mother

played a huge role in saying the kids who killed her son deserved another chance. That part amazes me.

http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/sports/other_college_football/Jono-Krystiniaks-death-brings-new-life

My nephew was close friends with Jono so I followed the story somewhat closely, although I never knew him.

NFL players

NFL players, I think, usually have walk throughs on Saturday before the Sunday game. They are probably only going to show up when their bye week coincides with a Michigan home game. Maybe if they are playing at the Lions. I could be wrong, but I don't think any honorary captains were current pros not on their bye.

I think the point

I think the point of setting goals is making sure you have control. There are outside variables that affect who wins the NC. TCU this year, and years when 3 BCS conference teams go undefeated means that someone is going to be left out. If you go undefeated, but don't win the NC you didn't meet your goal. Just win the conference, anything more is a bonus.
