Love the ending video! …

Love the ending video!  Wonderful rear-view analysis of last year's magic.  Says so much about the integrity and atmosphere of the players and staff.  Go Blue!

Seems to me that taking over…

Seems to me that taking over an M program at its depth has a lot more potential and upside than taking over a Florida Atlantic program at its depth.  He should do great!  Certainly looking forward to wanting to watch the team play as a team.  This year was so disappointing....

M's best coaches have been non-star former players, so Dusty May certainly fits.  Also looking forward to seeing him with success like John Orr-Bill Frieder-Steve Fisher-John Beilein.  It's so fascinating that he actually spent a season down Washtenaw at Eastern.  Who woulda thunk it?

You cannot tell me that…

You cannot tell me that anyone would have been unhappy if we had been promised in advance what has happened over the past three years and with Harbaugh leaving after such fabulous results.  We are all better for what has happened.  Memories for a lifetime.  Frankly, memories for all time.  100 years from now, it won't be a whole lot different than looking back to the early 1900s and the success during those days.  The last three years will be written in stone forever.  Thank you, Jim!

Let's go Team 145!  Go Blue!

Speaking about 1986, the 86…

Speaking about 1986, the 86 Fiesta Bowl was certainly a top game.  M fell behind Nebraska in the first half, only to blow them out in the second half and finish #2 in the polls; the highest ranking for almost 40 years until 97-98.  And Harbaugh was at the helm!

He had another against UCLA…

He had another against UCLA in a regular season game at the Rose Bowl.  M was down by more than a TD in the 4th quarter, scored a TD, recovered an onside kick on Remy kicked the winner.  Fabulous!

OMG, there are so many!  I…

OMG, there are so many!  I've been attending games since Sept. 63, so would have the 65
Rose Bowl in my list though it's outside the scope of this discussion, and the Ron Johnson game in fall of 68 (I think) though I only attended the first half because the rain was so bad.  I also witnessed the 64 game at OSU in bitter cold that was a fabulous 10-0 whitewash.  But there have been so many remarkable games; this is a little like rating your children which can't be done!

If Harbaugh goes, that's…

If Harbaugh goes, that's where JJ goes??  If Chargers, they had one of the worst records so will draft high.

What's more important??? …

What's more important???  Check the B1G network schedule.  It will air at 7!

How much does his brother…

How much does his brother earn at Baltimore?  Seems like that would be some kind of challenge for him if it's more than his M $$$.  Otherwise, perhaps it's some kind of measuring stick no matter the difference negative or positive.

Not sure why this news from 2018 deserves this kind of attention in the wake of Monday's results.  On the other hand, it is a reminder that M has done nothing to honor Keith Jackson and his naming of the Stadium as "The Big House."  That has brought M significant attention and honor in itself.  And made us alums even more proud of the Best University in the World.  Let's put a plaque or "trophy case" of some kind in the stadium area to honor this wonderful friend of M.  As long as the Stadium exists, his legacy will never end!!

Certainly agree with you. …

Certainly agree with you.  My thoughts about Monday's results were that the defense was fabulous and the offense good enough.  This is the best team ever?  After less than perfection?  Don't doubt it.  I do not remember an M team that I have witnessed in the last 60 years that dominated its opposition like this one, if you consider the final scores of each game.  Yes, many have been close later in the games than desired.  But winning the national championship over the #2 team by 20 points?

On Monday, the defense played offense to put the game away; that interception by Sainristil was his good-bye call to both his final year and previous position.  At the time, being a fourth down play by W, I wondered why he started to return the interception; it became obvious that he wanted to remember what it was like to be a receiver.  How cool it was that he made this play!

So, Team #144 is done.  Long live Team #144!!!  Bring on #145....

To hell with Notre Dame!! …

To hell with Notre Dame!!  They are eating our dust along with OSU and Alabama....

That this team escaped its…

That this team escaped its five game gauntlet -- Penn State, Maryland, OSU, Alabama, and Washington -- unscathed is a testament to all:  players, coaches, and fans.  The fact that final scores in each game weren't close must be as amazing to football analysts everywhere as the fact that they were all victories.  This certainly has to be an all-time M team.

Now, there are a number of "all-time" M teams.  And this one measures well on all counts against each one.  The first Rose Bowl team and "point a minute" teams, the '48 team, the '69 team that reset the tradition of excellence, the '97 team.  And there are other national champions.  But this one stands in the center of the pantheon, for sure, due to its extraordinary defense-offense combo and shutdown results against all comers.

What a terrific legacy for all of us to talk about forever....  we have been blessed!

You have inspired me to…

You have inspired me to believe that once every 25 or 50 years (or whatever, based on your age, memory, and how much you've spent on football tix in your lifetime) we dedicated now delirious M fans are due a year like this.  It's fun to lose your mind in a positive moment.

What wonderful commentaries!…

What wonderful commentaries!

The bottom line for me on Washington's record is that, given they're undefeated and just beat Texas, I guess they are deserving to play M.  However, they are extremely fortunate to get through their gauntlet of games without a loss.  I've seen replays of three of them on Pac12 network and each were victories in name only.  They beat Oregon State by 2 after Oregon State's center hiked the ball over their QB's head and eventually out of the end zone; otherwise a nondescript game for offense and defense.  They beat Oregon in their first game by 3 because Oregon refused to go for two field goals when within the 10 yard line; the clock ran out at the end of the first half and their other fourth down try was unsuccessful.  They beat Washington State (!!!) on the last play of their game via field goal.  Each of these games were winnable by their opponents.

This doesn't mean that M will have a walk in the park tomorrow, but it does mean that M won't need to have a perfect game to win.  The combo of Penix and Odunze is fabulous when Penix is on target and Odunze is in the area to catch; he seems to be open on every throw since he is so fast and elusive.  Penix's throwing is amazing.  Their defense is certainly suspect, though I do like Muhammed (so does he!).  M will need to score points to win.  I certainly expect less adversity than against Alabama.  I would guess final score M 42, W 28 or so.

Go Blue!!

If you subscribe to DISH or…

If you subscribe to DISH or otherwise can get access to the Pac12 network, you will find them replaying one or two of Washington's games from this season in 60-minute format.  They replayed their game against Oregon State which was played at Oregon State in the rain.  Washington won by 2 points because the Ore State center snapped the ball over their QB's head and the ball was kicked out of the end zone.  Hardly a defensive play!

Penix showed his arm for sure in multiple deep throws but his problems weren't as much that his receivers were dropping them; he wasn't as accurate as I expected.  His receiver Odunze looked very good.  Oregon State has a runner similar to Corum and he did well.  Washington didn't run anyone very much except for Dillon Johnson, who sounds hurt and probably won't be a factor on Monday.  However, Penix is a dangerous runner.  Looking forward to the positive results on Monday eve!  Go Blue!!

Though I agree with your…

Though I agree with your observation, this is a incredibly well-written message path that celebrates this fabulous Rose Bowl victory and sets the stage for next Monday eve!!  Hope everyone doesn't mind delaying the Saban debate to a separate path some time in the future and just bask in the afterglow of this victory for a while!!  Go Blue!!  To hell with Saban!!  (and Notre Dame too)

There was no doubt in the…

There was no doubt in the minds of nearly 100K in the stands and who knows how many watching on TV about who would get the ball on the last Alabama play.  The surprise was the call to run him up the middle against M's defense that had hardened again during their previous OT plays.  Very thankful for that defense!  And the offense, of course.  Special teams:  please figure it out!!

On to Houston!  Go Blue!!

It appears that some of…

It appears that some of those reading this post are dealing with similar problems and sharing their resolve with hopes of improving their own health. Here's my story.  Ten years ago I had my first physical exam after starting Medicare.  Through testing, my doctor discovered that I had heart disease as a result of a silent heart attack that happened who-knows-when.

The result of that was a trip to a cardiologist in Lansing, whom I later discovered had been Mark d'Antonio's cardiologist for his unfortunate heart attack.  He recommended that I take a statin drug in order to improve my cholesterol counts to the best possible (they were already pretty good).  I didn't like the idea of taking statin drugs at that time so personally decided to lose weight in order to take stress off my heart.

I checked weight loss websites and found the caloric intake that would help me lose weight, and proceeded to drop 50 pounds in about six months. I did that by monitoring my food intake by recording what I ate and keeping track of all the nutritional elements, ie, calories, protein, sodium, cholesterol, saturated fat, etc.  My goal was to meet or exceed the RDA of each component each day.  I set up a spreadsheet and have recorded the results daily since that time.  I also started an interval walking routine of 30 minutes or more of daily activity.

At the end of the first year, not only had my weight reduced and has stayed there since then, but my cholesterol readings were actually better than the cardiologist wanted them to be.  After that time, I have followed the same regimen.  My weight has not changed.  My annual blood work has had good results ever since.  My blood pressure is normal.  My current doctor suggested that I take lipitor for other reasons, since my age has progressed, but that is the only prescribed medicine that I take.

After my physical activity, I usually consume a protein-fiber shake that consists of almond milk, a mangosteen supplement, fiber, and some fruit juice.  It is almost impossible to meet or exceed the RDA for soluble fiber without intention or some supplement.

I didn't eat a hamburger for a few years after starting my regimen.  Minimal desserts.  No soft drinks of any kind.  No cow's milk, minimal salt-free butter.  It's impossible to reverse engineer what is eaten at some restaurants (or family meals outside the home) but that is so infrequent it doesn't impact the overall results.

Good luck to all of you trying to improve your health!  Go Blue!

There are a few other…

There are a few other comments about the parade in this chat.  My family usually attended the Rose Parade if M wasn't playing in the game.  It is very difficult to do both unless you're on a tour so sitting near the start of the parade and then escorted into the stadium area.  If you aren't on a tour and you like the challenge of doing both, you must get a grandstand ticket in the TV area at the start of the parade (Orange Grove Ave., Pasadena Blvd.).  Time is of the essence!  You will need to arrive very early, say 6 am, though the parade starts at 8.  It will be cold then too!  But the Chamber of Commerce will produce the sun and the game will be 60 to 70 deg (or even more) so be prepared with layers to remove.

Traffic is very difficult, especially after the parade and in the RB area.  Thankfully the game doesn't start until 2 (PST).  As others have said elsewhere, the best idea for the game is to get there early, park on the golf course (as long as it's open and not wet), then tailgate and celebrate the day.  This is a game that everyone should attend at least once, win or (hope not) lose.

In spite of my comments to the contrary, rest assured that seeing the parade in person is comparable to witnessing the eighth wonder of the world.  The engineering, design, and effort that goes into each and every float is unknown to mankind.  Much better in person than on TV.

Depends on your taste for…

Depends on your taste for fun and (hopefully) sun.  Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm aren't far, nor is Universal City, etc., in the other direction.  I visited California every year from 1963 to 2009 at Christmas/New Year's time (parents) and found that the sun shone on Pasadena every year except for several.  In fact, it's not unusual for it to be 70+ deg (though truly coolish in the morn).  But the day before and the day after may be rainy or cool.  Look it up!!

On the other hand, not said…

On the other hand, not said but certainly inevitable:  unionization of the athletes.

Been to every M Rose Bowl…

Been to every M Rose Bowl game so far, but not this one.  The field at the Rose Bowl has a track around it so the seating is farther back.  So there are probably fewer rows with more seats per row.  But otherwise the views are comparable to the Big House.  One of the crazier RBs happened maybe 30 years or so ago when Coke was selling Slice and passing out foam seats.  There was a flying seat war among fans!  Took quite a few away with us.

If you're driving, you need to know that the Rose Bowl golf course surrounds the stadium so parking is ample.  But the area is in a real bowl and surrounded by hills so traffic in and out is difficult, especially after the game.  Some people park in nearby Pasadena lots and walk to the stadium, especially if the course is closed due to recent rain.  Just like the lots near M Stadium.

You cannot beat the view at sunset there.  Spectacular with the mountains.  One of the wonders of the football world.  As an M fan, you owe it to yourself to witness this at least once.  I have been blessed.

Sure does bring back bad…

Sure does bring back bad memories.  M was 10-0-1 that year.  The only thing "good" was the B1G changed its bowl policy.  Seems to happen more often than not that M gets involved in a snafu that changes future policies but still gets screwed in the mean time.

This was the wierdest lop…

This was the wierdest lop-sided non-blowout blowout ever!  How fabulous!  Beat the huge point-spread with a defense that played like an offense and an offense that played like a defense.  The defense/special teams handed the offense 23 points and the offense scored only 3 via drives longer than a few yards.  M scored as many rushing touchdowns against Iowa as Iowa had given up in its 12 games -- on two "drives" of less than ten yards!  Yet the offense controlled the ball for 36 minutes, keeping Iowa off the field!  What a great defense!  Go Blue!!

Long interview.  Semi…

Long interview.  Semi-interesting details but too much info.

I was 28 years old in 1973…

I was 28 years old in 1973 so very much around at that time.  These two situations aren't real comparable but similar, I suppose, in the appearance of the B1G v. Michigan.   Of course, in 1973, Michigan actually received support from some of the other institutions though the majority voted against.  But it caused the season to end prematurely since the Rose Bowl was the single post-season game.  Unlike this time, there was no way to remedy the result.

This year, the season continues, no matter the situation, and there is a good chance for a good post-season, playoffs or not.  But the future repercussions of this action are so much greater this time than 1973.  This will likely set some kind of NCAA/B1G precedent that will be applied in other situations.  At that time, the team prepared for 1974 without the extra BS happening now.  No court action.  No talk of bolting the B1G. With all the changes in college football over the past few years, this may just be part of the continuing "progress."

Fabulous insight!  This is…

Fabulous insight!  This is such an media hype and OSU event, it is ridiculous.  Hopefully, the NCAA can use the occasion to rethink its rules and words about scouting so they are intelligible to the naivete, such as media and OSU.

If that happens, I must just…

If that happens, I must just be there.  I've attended every M Rose Bowl since 1964 and would welcome another victory.  Got to tell you, Pasadena on Jan 1 is always my favorite day of the year.  An afternoon-evening in the RB is always an amazing treat.  The good Lord always provides a beautiful day and evening.

Wolverines disrespected…

Wolverines disrespected again!  Four names but none have prominent first team mentions.

Same as B1G weekly awards:  26 players named in first six weeks and exactly one Michigan player (Week 5, Josaiah Stewart; no JJ, Wilson, Corum, Graham, et. al.).  Makes no sense.

Fuel for continued motivation!

The lights obviously had…

The lights obviously had much more of a positive effect on those witnessing the spectacle in the stadium.  On TV it just looked goofy to me.  Maybe I should have had all my lights turned off (sans the TV) though I don't think it would have been the same!  I think I will need to flash my maize and blue LED lights at home (get some first!) so I can have a common experience.

For scoreboard ideas, I…

For scoreboard ideas, I would like to see a listing of the numbers and names of the M players on the field, especially since there are no starting lineups announced any more.  I haven't found any give-away or for-sale programs anywhere, and Harbaugh plays so many players that it's hard to know all the numbers.  This is a heck of a lot more important than some of those stats.

And what is up with cell service?  After 20 years or so, you would think that some provider would get it right.   Last year when I had a security problem, the security group couldn't even call themselves.

And it wasn't always…

And it wasn't always displayed.  There were at least several instances where the scoreboard time-out keeper either wasn't displayed or didn't display the time remaining in the timeout at all.  I felt sorry for that guy in the red hat on the field being required to carry the timeout clock on and then off the field, not to mention remember to display it so everyone can see it somehow.  Even if it is light-weight, it just doesn't make sense when the scoreboard can be used and everyone can easily see it (as it has been the last few years).

And what happened to the sideline marker that was always planted where the drive starts?

Game to be replayed on B1G…

Game to be replayed on B1G network in the 60-minute format (according to btn.com, so don't blame me if they change the schedule!):

Monday, 10 pm

Tuesday, 11 am

Tuesday, 9 pm

Set your DVRs accordingly!  While attending the game, my biggest problem was identifying the players/numbers.  Didn't see programs sold or given away and forgot to bring my roster!

I'm a '67 grad and my hair hasn't turned blue yet.  Or even maize.  Sounds like very appropriate for a blue-out!  Can't wait!

When I grew up in southern CA (many years ago), college football kicked off at 9 am leaving the entire afternoon to get things done with the game results behind.  Very enjoyable to eat breakfast while watching football!

Go Blue!!

Payback for…

Go Blue!!

Payback for several Wolverines who have defected to OSU, certainly, not to mention the football beatdowns for two years now.  They shall go nameless since they don't deserve recognition!

Michigan #2 means that M…

Michigan #2 means that M makes it to the final game, an accomplishment for the first time!  So, I am looking at this as who is M's likely opponent for that last playoff game.  Just as soon beat Georgia as any other team.  Go Blue!

Otherwise, these preseason polls are pretty irrelevant for most teams.  They are the media's attempt to gain readers and provide wonderful incentive for all the lower ranked teams to get their acts together.

Go Blue!  Your incentive is to live up to the ranking, and to exceed it!!

So much for wishful thinking…

So much for wishful thinking.  It is done.

Has "breaking news" broken…

Has "breaking news" broken about what happened last eve?

This realignment is out of…

This realignment is out of control.  Without knowing how the B1G would be organized should it have four west coast colleges, it seems nuts to be scheduling all the sports to be making west coast trips during the school year.  What a travel nightmare!  It seems difficult enough just getting back and forth to Nebraska and Rutgers for Michigan students.  Can't imagine the scenario for Rutgers or Penn State students.  I say "Go Blue."  Let Washington and Oregon figure out their own future and focus the B1G on the B1G.  USC and UCLA are a massive change and need to play out for a while.

Sounds like a typical radio…

Sounds like a typical radio talker who's trying to add more listeners by hyping a story that locals want to hear.

The few times I've needed to…

The few times I've needed to sell my tickets, StubHub has worked out OK.  Anyone have thoughts about SeatGeek for selling?

And what is the problem if U-M isn't officially endorsing StubHub any more?  What issues will there be for transferring tickets to or from?  Certainly quite a few people will not have seen this announcement (OSU fans?) and will venture to StubHub.

I've been reading a book…

I've been reading a book about Fielding Yost and discovered that this was very common for players in the early part of his era.  Even he did it while playing fb!  Enrolled at West Virginia, decided that law wasn't what he wanted, transferred to Lafayette for engineering and became disenchanted, then transferred back to WVU!  He also moved from coaching single years at Nebraska, Kansas, and Stanford before coming to M.  He commented that each school had lousy records before his year, then had a winning season when he was there.

Speculation of this kind is…

Speculation of this kind is always fun when your favorite team has more recognition than others (esp OSU, of course). And this early fuels so much interest in the season!  Then reality strikes... and hopefully the team will even overperform.  Hopefully, non-recognition or lower recognition of some will spark some competitive fires and complete the job.

Let's see more positive…

Let's see more positive comments about the teams' success!!  I think Warde Manuel's results have been pretty adequately covered!

Presumably, you are aware…

Presumably, you are aware that the annual all-sports trophy often goes to the M of the west, Stanford.  So, just checking gostanford.com, I find that Stanford fields men's and women's teams in 36 sports.  No wonder they win that trophy more than M since M fields 9 fewer teams, or the grand total of 27.  On a per-sport basis, I would say that M does pretty well in that competition!  (Sorry to inform you!  Didn't check any other programs.)

Thanks very much for the in…

Thanks very much for the in-depth details though I will forget most of them quickly.  Have started watching a few games (eg, M v OSU) and find the sport absolutely captivating!  The fact that M has become so successful sure gets past my lack of knowledge and keeps me watching.

This sport may be huge in the future as the downside of football is considered, even though play can be quite rough in lax as well. It also seems more oriented to amateur play right now so less "pro".

Western colleges should be able to adopt this sport much quicker than hockey, of course.  Seems like its season should be perfect for the west.  Where's Stanford, the M of the west?
