Well when you have two of the largest fan bases with a lot of history playing one another of course it will draw a high rating. There is no doubt that this game is relevant to each fanbase, but in terms of its importance to college football, its hard to say it has been super relevant the last few years. I think with both sides experiencing several coaching changes, littered with more than a few mediocre seasons, a lot of outside fans just view this as a game between two historic programs reliving their glory days. Sure there have been plenty of great games played, but the top ten matchups just haven't been there lately.

I originally thought the title was regarding the team name, and considering I haven't drafted yet, I might as well do that. Can anyone out there beat "Monica sucked Clinton-Dix" for a team name?

Man. It seems like a lot of posters have this preconceived notion of the 'perfect' two-deep. A depth chart in which the highest recruited player must be listed first string unless they have previously proven it on the field (Jake Ryan). Anything that disagrees with this sentiment must mean either, its time to panic because some young highly recruited kid isn't starting (Dymonte Thomas), or that Hoke is just trolling us and using it as a motivational ploy (Glasgow).
But there is this other option that stars are not the end all be all, and a lot of these kids that don't have the recruiting hype have been working their asses off and playing well and deserve to be listed where they are at. I know not everyone is a fan of the trust the coaches meme, but until you actually have game film to analyze, it is all there is to do. That is unless you enjoy freaking yourself out and increasing your blood pressure over a trivial matter such as the depth chart for the first game.

That there is such a thing as being 'clutch', especially in baseball. Players don't suddenly peform at a statistically greater level during a crunch time situation. If you average it all out, you will see that their play in cricital situations is in line with their normal playing ability the other 99% of the time.

Five years? Give me a break. The Lions went from 0-16 to 10-6 and in the playoffs 3 years later. From this thread its no secret you dislike the hire, but lets not act like this is a move that will haunt the Lions for years to come.

Man. All this hate for Caldwell and the Lions before he has even coached a single game. I get he may not have been your first choice to be coach and you all wanted someone better to come walking throught that door. Well guess what? So did the Lions. They tried to get their guy and it didn't happen. For all we know, the Lions did everything right and Whisenhunt may not have wanted to come here. Sometimes that happens. And when you are a franchise that has a stigma about being a perennial tire-fire that is to be expected. Sure the Lions ownership has had a lot to do with that in the past, but it does seem like the Lions are trying to turn the corner and move forward.
Mayhew has doen a great job of assembling this team and they are in good position going into next year. And for the shit people are giving Caldwell, he seems like to a perfect fit to instill a sense of discipline and accountability into this team that limits the number of bone-headed penalties and plays we were accustomed to seeing under Schwarz. So all of you that are done with the Lions, so be it. But I am not going to let the progress this franhise has taken to gain respect be thrown out the door just because they didn't get their first choice of coach.

I am doing a terrible job at keeping track of these bowl games. Every year they seem to either add a couple or change their names. Also, I have no idea which bowl games have ties to specific conferences anymore. Its constantly changing.
|42 weeks 1 day ago||So gettng selected in a||
So gettng selected in a different bowl game would have changed this opinion? I get that you aren't a fan of the bowl game Michigan got put in, but this is still the 7-5 team we saw all year. Whatever bowl game we arbitrarily get put into shouldn't change how you view the season. Also, you may have wanted the Gator bowl, but Michigan being what it is usually gets selected over other comparable win-loss teams and hence why we got selected ahead of Nebraska. It may have given us a less than 'sexy' match-up for this bowl pick, but this type of bowl slotting is also what helped Michigan secure the Sugar bowl bid a few years ago. Take the good with the bad.
|45 weeks 16 hours ago||Who cares. Michigan could||
Who cares. Michigan could come out wearing bumblebee uniforms with the Dominos logo on the back and I am fine with that as long as they come out ready to play against an older and more talented Ohio State squad. The only tradition Michigan fans should care about fulfilling regarding 'The Game' is the team playing a very tough and competive game against our biggest rival. Considering the recent struggles in this area, what uniforms we are wearing should be irrelevant.

Might also want to include the Champions Classic as well in this thread since Michigan is for sure playing 2 of these teams this season and there is probably between 10-12 first round picks on the court between the two games.

I think the number 4 stipulation should only be applied if Hoke has person ally worked with the guy he is going to hire. Hoke doesn't need to bring in more Michigan Men and quite frankly I hope whoever he hires doesn't have any ties to the program. I want the best coaches period. We don't need more coaches that think coaching at Michigan is the pinnacle of their career. We have that guy in Hoke. We need guys that are ambitious and looking to keep advancing in the coaching arena. Outside of a couple years, Michigan has been a stagnant program for a couple decades. Too many seasons with 4 or more losses and not enough challenging for a national title.Changing the culture of coaching could go a long way to help rectify that.

I have no idea whats standard pricing for scalping tickets, but my buddies and I waited until 2 minutes after kick-off and were able to get 4 seats together for $70 total. Only ended up missing the first 3 minutes of the game and I can't even say I cared at that price. Will probably try to do the same for the Ohio game as well.
|46 weeks 20 hours ago||So just bringing in more||
So just bringing in more Michigan Men? I like Hart as much as the next guy, but I'm not willing to make him a coach here just because he played football for us a while back. If he is the best available, hire him right way, but I doubt he is the best available option.
|46 weeks 20 hours ago||Why?||
Just because he is a Michigan man? If he had no Michigan ties, he wouldn't even be on the list. Michigan needs to go after the best person out there, not the best person they can with Michigan ties. I know if will be harder to hire such a person, but throwing enough money at the person usually solves that issue.

We are a last second drive away from having lost 6 straight to MSU. And next year doesn't look like a great shot either, considering we will be on the road again. And if we don't beat Ohio State this year, we are looking at losing 10 out of the last 11 games considering the team has to play in Columbus next year.
Don't even know what to say to that...Something has to give eventually I guess, but until then, its been a rough few years to be a Michigan Football fan.
|49 weeks 1 day ago||I think anything but sticking||
I think anything but sticking with the Indiana gameplan is calling for trouble. What made the Indiana gameplan so good was that Michigan's offense wasn't all that predicatable. We passed on some early downs which helped out the running game later in the game. Let State stack the box and and force Gardner to throw. I believe he is capable of airing it out to our guys and forcing State's defense to back off some.
|49 weeks 2 days ago||I will be really interested||
I will be really interested to see how Bosch and Magnuson get graded out. I know the running offense was simplified and this was just Indiana, but they seemed to hold up rather well considering this was their first start.

An even better question would be does he have time to audible? Seems like the whole huddling concept would make audibling to a different play quite difficult.

So maybe Stribling getting a lot of interceptions in practice is moreso a product of the quarterback he is going up against rather than an indication of his ball-hawking abilities?

Wasn't Braden supposed to be the first tackle off the bench? I didn't realize Magnuson had passed him for that spot.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Seems only fitting that||
Seems only fitting that Deveon Smith's recruiting overview essentially was 'lost'. I think many people have forgotten about him since the Green committment and are just assuming he will take a back seat to Derrick for a few years. But if previous recruiting rankings have shown us anything, it is that being higher rated doesn't necessarily mean they will be better in college. I think Mr. Smith will end up surprising a lot of people in his time at Michigan and sooner than we all think.

I like the move. Not a bad player at all for the money he is getting. And who knows, getting out of Milwaukee could be just what he needs to continue developing into a top 10 point guard.

I am just curious, but what is that honking noise that occurs in the first two highlights after AC scores a touchdown? I can't tell if thats just the stadium noise or just some other effect. Regardless, everytime I hear that sound I get pretty amped up and wish I could have watched this legend play and hear the game called by the greatest radio playcaller ever, Mr. Bob Ufer.
