It is sad to see so many…

It is sad to see so many fans already putting the title in the past and looking for their next dopamine hit (seems like this is a symptom of current society, always looking for the next big thing). What happened less than a month ago might not ever happen again. So enjoy it. Cherish it. Relish it for what it is cause it happened.

You get very few moments of pure happiness in life, and this was one of those for us fans. Don't be so keen to find tomorrow's problem because it will be there before you know it.

He actually went out and…

He actually went out and spoke to the media again to clarify that all areas of the bears are struggling, himself included.

Doesn't give him a pass for his play, but by all accounts he is a really good person, just not a good NFL QB.

I can't say that I have sat…

I can't say that I have sat under a Banyan tree for 7 days, but I was able to sit under the famous one in Lahaina (about a week before the fires) and it was quite the majestic experience. Really hoping the tree and surrounding area can recover.

Is any of Tom Bombadil…

Is any of the Tom Bombadil discussion stemming from him being one of the previewed cards for the LOTR Magic the Gathering set coming out this summer?

We know the solutions, its…

We know the solutions, its just that a minority of the country has highjacked it, and decided the right to carry out a mass shooting is far more important.

Saw someone describe celebrating the 4th, with how things currently stand feels like throwing a birthday party for someone on hospice. Unfortunately that feels way too accurate.

"My entire point is that…

EDIT - Double Post

"My entire point is that…

"My entire point is that this portal/NIL era IN GENERAL is turning college into the pros,"

So Harbaugh making $7 million per year isn't like the pros?

Assistant coaches making close to $1 million in salary, and jumping ship the second they get a better offer isn't like the pros?

UM charging increasingly higher and higher ticket prices and concessions isn't like the pros?

UM receiving tens of millions of dollars from TV revenue isn't like the pros?

Spending millions and millions to upgrade the facilities isn't like the pros?

Somehow it seems like these weren't major issues regarding your fandom, but now that players are getting a share of those millions you are upset. Probably worth asking yourself why that's the case. Just seems like you were lying to yourself about what major college athletics had become, and with players getting paid it is increasingly difficult to continue that facade.

Is there something wrong…

Is there something wrong with using Michigan to get to the next stage of their career? I thought that was the point of college. Players don't owe the school anything beyond playing basketball for the year they are on scholarship.

If only Parkland had an…

If only Parkland had an armed guard.

If only the Topps grocery store had an armed guard that previously served as a police officer.

If only the cops who engaged with yesterday's shooter had guns before he entered the school.

True, both sides are to…

True, both sides are to blame. But that blame is not shared equally.

I'm gonna go out on a limb…

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this isn't a once in a generation storm. These types of events are going to be happening more frequently and only getting worse.

One can realize America…

One can realize America messed up horribly with the war in Iraq, and at the same time can see what is happening in Ukraine and realize we must do what we can to learn from history and try to limit this suffering going forward. People grow and evolve over time, and learn from  past mistakes, so get rid of this bullshit where no one can criticize anything cause we all have flaws.

I mean that's his problem…

I mean that's his problem. Everyone, including Ovi, knew what Putin was about long before the invasion of Ukraine, so if he wanted to be buddies with Putin then its time to suffer the consequences. Next time don't cozy up to fascist dictators.

So much of what your saying…

So much of what your saying has been debunked, but thats what happens when a segment of the population has embraced a false sense of reality.

I just don't know how we overcome this as a country.

Is that why the only…

Is that why the only Republicans on the January 6th committee are being primaried, including one of the higher ranked members? Look at how your party is voting on these issues. The leading GOP candidate for President is currently the guy who attempted the coup. The GOP has told us what they are about. You don't get to hide behind the few outliers who still believe in doing what's right. And the fact you think the situation in Seattle was relatively the same as an attempt to destroy our democracy explains why we are in this mess.

I think one can recognize…

I think one can recognize both sides have issues, but it isn't symmetrical. I am so tired of people who support a party that attempted to overthrow the government telling everyone both parties are equally corrupt.

I'm not gonna bemoan the…

I'm not gonna bemoan the loss of a building that only caters to people from a certain socioeconomic background.

Acting like this is a loss for the entire state, when only a subset of the population can even use the facilities is rich.

Oh no! Now the extremely…

Oh no! Now the extremely wealthy will have to find another place to congregate away from the plebs.

EDIT - Many of you have made some great points regarding how this effects many people employed at Oakland Country Club, in addition to the money brought into the local community during large tournaments. I apologize for my comments on this post and recognize I was/am being an asshole.  I let my own personal experiences and emotions get the best of me, and and will try to do better in the future.

Seems like Culley was…

Seems like Culley was supposed to be a stop-gap for them to hire Josh McCown this year, but the Flores situation changed their plans. Not a good look to fire a black coach who did okay given the circumstances, just to hire a white guy with no professional or collegiate coaching experience.

I imagine Lovie will serve as a stop-gap coach akin to Culley, with McCown on the staff to replace him when they start losing (probably a given considering the talent on the roster).

Who fucking cares what Bo…

Who fucking cares what Bo thinks? No one should be using him as an example of doing things the right way. Michigan can move forward without bringing up their former coach who looked the other way when his players were getting sexually abused. He has been an anchor on the program since he retired, but some of you still refuse to toss him overboard.

Only coaches who ignore…

Only coaches who ignore their players getting sexually abused get statues at UM.

Now take down the Bo statue.

Now take down the Bo statue.

 "If you actually apply…

"If you actually apply common sense,"

You should probably start with yourself. We are in this shitty situation because of people like you.

You are telling on yourself…

You are telling on yourself here.

Pretty sure he isn't saying…

Pretty sure he isn't saying that at all. The school already recognizes that most academic specialties differ in what it takes to graduate. You take different courses, and have very different expectations and requirements. Adding athletics as a major would just be a continuation of recognizing that not all academic tracks are considered equal.

I think you are making the mistake in assuming that majoring in athletics has to be a sham, when in reality it could be as legitimate as any other major. It would depend on the requirements, obviously, but you can't just assume it's shit because it's  not a traditional academic route.

Now Ole Miss could offer the same major, and that might turn out to be a sham if it's not set up well and the requirements to graduate are watered down. But thats very different from assuming that an athletic major is inherently bad.

I agree. I don't understand…

I agree. I don't understand all the angst.

This sport has been all about the money for decades. If you chose to lie to yourself over the years to maintain your enjoyment and pretend it was all about the school and the team, then yeah, this might be a rude wake up call.

By "integrity of the sport"…

By "integrity of the sport" are you suggesting that only the biggest CFB programs should be able to offer this kind of money, and any smaller school trying to improve its outlook can screw off?

Why is this the death bell,…

Why is this the death bell, and not any of the other changes over the past few decades that have increased the amount of money being pumped into the sport?

I think there is a reason…

I think there is a reason you don't see secondary education and athletics mixed together anywhere else around the world. The system was always flawed, and isn't meant to work. It worked for so long because there was a system in place that did its best to cover that up and obscure the reality of high-level collegiate athletics. People who are bitching about the end of CFB were probably okay with coaches salaries ballooning, with millions were being spent on upgrading perfectly adequate facilities, and TV deals that began to provide tens of millions of dollars of revenue to the athletic department.

It just so happens that quite a few people could still lie to themselves about what college athletics had become despite those changes. It seems that players receiving compensation finally made it impossible to continue that lie going forward. It sucks for the fans who had their heads in the sand, but the writing has been on the wall for a while, and all you had to do is pay attention to see it.

I would not use the word…

I would not use the word transparent to describe the NFL. They are literally working to squash all details of their investigation into the WFT for using their cheerleaders as sex slaves, along with other heinous acts.

This is a relatively new…

This is a relatively new establishment, but Side Biscuit is quite good. It specializes in Buffalo, NY cuisine like chicken wings and pizza logs. It's not really a sit down establishment (only inside space is to order), but they have some outdoor seating. It is also not downtown, making it easier to visit.

Love the MTG reference!!!

Love the MTG reference!!!

Here is my best attempt at making Hassan Haskins into a MTG card:

They say the best asset you…

They say the best asset you can have as a player in the NFL is availability. Not a shock that coaches would use that as a deciding factor on who to keep on a roster. You see injured guys get cut all the time. This doesn't seem any different, except that the injured players didn't actually have a choice in getting hurt.

Looks good to me!

Sounds like you might need…

Sounds like you might need to step away from the board if this upsets you that much. Also, was the community really that great if something like getting a vaccine is cause enough to throw a tantrum?

This might be a good time…

This might be a good time for colleges to assess whether they really need to keep these secondary athletic programs. I don't get why football has to continue to subsidize the existence of teams like rowing. You can still keep them as a club team, but it might be best to save costs and just eliminate most of them. For the average student at UM, these secondary sports provide little in the way of benefits. They just use up money and put more of an emphasis on athletics over academics. I'm sure some people will miss them, but the school should be focused on doing whatever it  can to make schooling more affordable for the majority of students that are there for the academics.

Anyone who has suffered from…

Anyone who has suffered from serious mental health issues can tell you that they can be physically debilitating, and I would contend it is absolutely a form of physical injury. If your brain isn't functioning, good luck performing at a high level.

Also, you say you aren't making light of it, but then go ahead and suggest she wasn't giving it her all because it isn't what most people consider to be a typical sports injury. This is a pervasive stereotype that makes it even harder for people to open up about their own mental health struggles because others are just gonna say they didn't want it enough or quit on their team.

What is "degrading" about…

What is "degrading" about athletes getting adequately compensated for their work?

This is more in response to…

This is more in response to everybody saying she got busted for 'smoking weed'. She tested positive for THC. There are multiple routes of administration for THC, one of which is inhalation. In today's era, she could have simply had a gummy or tincture. I am only saying this because some people have this preconceived image of what it means to 'do weed' and just wanted to point out that there are other, healthier options available for users. This isn't a defense, just helps with the stigmatization of the drug.

'Considering the youth of…

'Considering the youth of the vaccine and that individuals in the 18-25 age bracket are at virtually no risk to the disease, it is very reasonable for a college kid to decide not to get it.'

I whole-heartedly disagree with this sentiment. An increase in vaccination rate means the overall number of cases will continue to decrease. Fewer cases diminishes the chance for the virus to mutate into a more contagious and deadlier variant. We are already dealing with the ramifications of the virus continuing to mutate (ie Delta variant is slowly becoming the dominant strain due to it being more contagious) so it would be wise to limit this possibility as much as one can. As we get more cases, the chance a current variant mutates into something that increases the morality rate of those in the current 'low-risk' group will continue to rise.

Additionally, getting vaccinated isn't just about yourself. This may be a novel concept, but every person who gets vaccinated is helping those around you who may not be able to get the vaccine for valid health reasons (ie those who are immunocompromised). I believe we owe it to those members of our community to do what we can so they can also resume their lives. But like I said, in today's era of what does this do for me, I can see why that point would get lost.

I think the sport of golf is…

I think the sport of golf is great.

I just can't stand the elitist culture, especially compared to other outdoor activities that are more inclusive and far less expensive. I shouldn't be expected to dress nicer than I do for church to go outside and play a game. I know it's been toned down some over the years, but enough of the country club atmosphere still persists to make it an annoyance.

Now the team needs a player…

Now the team needs a player named Chip, and no one will be capable of challenging them.

We are talking about…

We are talking about covering sexual abuse allegations in a consistent manner across all institutions. So yes, I absolutely believe there is an acceptable way to cover the events that have transpired. And no, you shouldn't have to pay a subscription fee to voice your displeasure when those standards aren't met, especially given the magnitude of these allegations.

The first article you linked…

The first article you linked is from 2020. The second one is great, but was written and investigated, and continually pushed by Ace, who doesn't work here anymore. The third was only written after Ace called out the roundtable for how they talked about the allegations. Outside of the WTKA post last Thursday, there has been no mention on the front page about the new allegations against Bo by his son, or the accompanying news conference the following day. I find that completely unacceptable.

The coverage of the Bo news…

The coverage of the Bo news on this blog has been complete garbage. Brian can write article after article about MSU being a shit institution and bring it up at every opportunity, but when the shoe is on the other foot, he just clams up. What a giant hypocrite.

I didn't imply Brian was…

I didn't imply Brian was silencing discussion of it on his blog. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of how the different events were covered. Brian being a blogger didn't seem to prevent him from hammering MSU for issues with their handling of Nassar. I just wonder if this current situation were to occur at a rival school, would Brian really approach it by saying I'm a blogger and refrain from saying much because it's outside my wheelhouse? The past doesn't suggest he would.

It's a good lesson to learn that all of these institutions reside in glass houses, and it's probably not wise to throw stones when it's happening to someone else.

"It seems like this guy had…

"It seems like this guy had an animus for Bo his entire life".

I'm assuming that having your dad physically beat you when you approach him about getting sexually abused tends to ruin the father-son relationship.

It sure does seem like Brian…

It sure does seem like Brian had a lot to say about how both MSU and Penn State needed to handle their issues regarding sexual assault and highlight mistake after mistake they made. But when it comes to Michigan, mums the word and he suddenly doesn't have anything to say. I guess that's what happens when you view your rivals as morally inferior, just to find out the team you support is no different.

They didn't sign Davis. They…

They didn't sign Davis. They traded away everything but Kuzma (who wasn't their best young star) to get him with one year left on his deal.

Only way to get Iggy is if Memphis buys him out. For now Memphis is hoping to trade him for something of value which rules out the Lakers. Clippers should have the significant edge over the Lakers for now with their current depth and bench. And unlike PG and Kawhi, Lebron only has a couple of seasons as one of the top 5-10 players in the league before Father Time does his thing. So its win now or bust for them.

You do realize the entire…

You do realize the entire team has also been fighting to receive compensation equal to that of the men's team. And yes, they bring in more revenue than the men so I don't know how one can say that this isn't commendable and exhibits values this country has been founded on (i.e. equality regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation).
