If after a couple years, it's clear this kid isn't going to be the starting QB, we need to move him to TE a la Jay Reimersma. Talk about a huge, athletic dude.

Quite small buyout.

Pointless destruction is not common among Michigan fraternities.

OccaM is right. No one is defending what these guys did. The point is, most houses would never do this shit, and many of the houses do a lot more good than bad.
We had guys in our house that were dick heads. We also had guys that read to elementary schoolers, raised money for various charities, went on mission trips and like half our house did Dance Marathon every year. I know the bad stuff makes the news, but that's not how the Greek System should be viewed.
|2 days 14 hours ago||It's also likely that the||
It's also likely that the "good apples" just weren't around when this was going on. When my fraternity went on trips, it's not like every single thing is done as a group. Hell, 80% of the house might have been skiing or sleeping when this happened.

Normal damage doesn't mean it happens all the time. He means it's the type of damage that happens sometimes, the customer gets the bill, pays it, and moves on. The fraternity may have even budgeted for that.
Point is, if you bring 100 college guys anywhere for a weekend, do a thousand (or even a few thousand) worth of damage and pay it, that's not news-worthy.
|2 days 14 hours ago||Exactly. When one person does||
Exactly. When one person does a grand of damage, it's a lot. When a grand of damage is done by 100 guys, which is somewhere between 25 and 50 hotel rooms, that's not exactly excessive.

Yeah - and it's a long process. I'm a class of '06 SigEp and we did a ton to get back to prominence and although we did a lot over the 4 years I was there, it took a lot more than that.
|2 days 14 hours ago||Yes. They were booted around||
Yes. They were booted around 2003 for hazing stuff. I'm a SigEp and I was in college at that time and we lived in the Sigma Chi house from 2004-2010 or so when we were between permanent housing.

At a place as nice as that, $400 for four people isn't bad without wine. Entrees are 60 bucks or so, add an appetizer or soup and a side of dessert at 15 per and you're looking at 100 per person without getting alcohol or going nuts with food.

John Kelly also has a Tennessee offer - a place he's likely to end up. He has enough good options that I'd be happy taking him.

Newsome is a tackle all the way, and Runyan could likely play either. I think Moorman falls into that same category as Runyan.
Is our current depth skewed toward guards? Our starting tackles this past fall were a frosh and a soph, with their backups being Magnuson and Dawson, two more sophomores. JBB and LTT were behind them.

I think Joe Bolden and Ojemudia would fill that roll.

Ross and Morgan would be the ILBs with Bolden and Ojemudia as the OLBs. Gedeon would be our next ILB off the bench and I bet McCray or possibly Lawrence Marshall would be next at OLB.

Looking at Alabama's Depth Chart on Rivals, their starting DEs are 265 (DJ Pettway) and 272 (Johnathan Allen). Their NT is 320, which duh. And if we ran a 3-4, one DE would be the guys who play 3-tech for us right now - Wormley, Henry or Godin (295, 293 and 286). So if we had a hypothetical starting 3-man front of Taco - Pipkins - Wormley, they would be 275 - 306 - 295. That's not huge, but that's about as big as any 3-man front being played in college football right now.
For fun, their backups would look something like Poggi - Glasgow - Henry which would be 270 - 296 - 293. Not much drop off outside of Glasgow, but Glasgow was a solid NT last year and he could put on 10lbs if the coaches asked him to. And is Glasgow can't cut it (unlikely) you have Mone at 312.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I mean there's no downside||
I mean there's no downside for 2015. Might there be downside for 2016? I suppose, but QBs still develop and advance without starting football games. I know people are sick of using OSU QBs as examples, but Cardale Jones was quite prepared for the Big Ten championship game despite having never started a game before. Look at the last few MSU QBs (minus Maxwell who just wasn't good) - Cousins picked right up where Hoyer left off and Connor Cook did the same. And if that's the position that Shane, Speight or Malzone are in come 2016, they'll still have the entire offseason and spring to prepare. If that's not enough, then that guy isn't ready.
Harbaugh is not just going to coach whoever is the starter. He's going to coach and develop all of them, and they'll be ready. You want the best possible player out there playing QB for you, and you worry about next year, next year.

We wouldn't save a scholarship for him, it would only be if we had one available come April. No downside.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I find it funny that a year||
I find it funny that a year ago, this board was licking their chops for a back-up center from Alabama to transfer, but when a back up QB is an option, no one wants the guy. Just odd.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||No one is advocating turning||
No one is advocating turning Hogan away to take Driskel. But if Hogan isn't an option, isn't someone better than no one? He's not a star, for sure. But maybe he has had awful QB coaching, it's not like Florida's offense has been good in any facet. And he has a lot more experience than any of our guys.

Yes, that's what we said. We said Harbaugh having the most twitter followers is the only thing we want to win. That's all. Cancel the season. You understand us correctly.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I just don't see why "taking||
I just don't see why "taking your lumps" is a preferred option. I would rather take as few lumps as possible, right?
This will not impede our progress moving forward at all. But it might make 2015 more fun. Or he'll sit the bench, in which case no harm, no foul. I see literally no down side to taking Driskel, yet everyone is against it.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Because the options we have||
Because the options we have are so much better? Tell me, which QB on our roster has proven more than Driskel has?
If our only hope is that a terrible option becomes a good option, then isn't it better to have 4 terrible options than 3?
