Forget comparing it to poker. Betting on sports teams (which is pretty close to betting on sports players) is considered gambling. I don't see why "the Saints will beat the Cowboys" is gambling but "Drew Brees will outperform Brandon Weeden" isn't.

Are you saying our defense is like 1997 and our special teams are like 1991?
|1 day 19 hours ago||Was that a regular thing? I||
Was that a regular thing? I don't seem to remember guys who were used once or twice to burn a redshirt.
And if they were - what if there was a good reason for it? I know Hoke didn't work out, but that doesn't mean everything he did was wrong.

Nope. This was the fifth game. That ship has sailed.
|1 day 20 hours ago||People in this board go way||
People in this board go way overboard with the redshirt thing. A redshirt is for players who are not ready to play. You don't sit a kid who can contribute in the hope you get a 5th year out of him. Kids lose a year due to injury, they go pro early and the transfer. You don't sacrifice what is best for the team this year to maybe make 2019 better.
Plus, it's entirely possible Kinnel starts next fall in Wilson's spot. I'd rather he get some time on the field, even if it's special teams so he's not seeing college players for the first time next fall as a starter.

ND will get throttled by USC. Write that down.

Are you sure?
Stop looking ahead to Saturday - we still have Monday's practice to get through. And don't ignore your Monday classes either. Hell, looking past your Sunday dinner could leave you malnourished for Monday's classes and practice.
We're the fucking fans. We can look forward to 2017 if we want (and sometimes do). It will affect nothing.

Honestly, I'm gonna be pissed if they score at all.
|2 days 6 hours ago||In response to both of you:||
In response to both of you: most teams haven't had too many high profile games yet, so some of the rankings are based on last year's results, and rightfully so. OSU won the national championship by a mile, so they should get some benefit of the doubt until they actually lose a game.
Similar for MSU - no reason they shouldn't be ranked high until a team actually knocks them off. They still play us and OSU so that issue will work itself out in a few weeks.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Seriously. Florida is||
Seriously. Florida is undefeated and just trounced the #3 team in the country. I'm surprised they aren't higher, to be honest. I wish people could try to be a little objective before they scream SEC bias (especially since most of the AP voters are not from SEC country and therefore would have no reason to give them bias).

Have you seen Northwestern's offense? Not exactly lighting the world on fire.
|2 days 6 hours ago||I think Game Day would prefer||
I think Game Day would prefer a non-night game. Their show runs until noon Eastern, and if the game doesn't start until 7 or 8 Eastern, that would impact the crowd that shows up.
|2 days 6 hours ago||I actually don't think ESPN||
I actually don't think ESPN has any inherent SEC bias. Sure - they talk about the SEC a lot, but that's because they have lots of good teams with large fanbases. This should not be a surprise. However, they also talk about ND and OSU a ton when they're good, for the same reason. When Michigan was a top team (and even a lot of the time they weren't) ESPN gave us tons of air time. Same thing for teams like Texas and USC.
And all things being equal, ESPN would rather push a big Big Ten match up than a big SEC match up because ESPN/ABC has our primary TV rights and not the SEC's.
|2 days 6 hours ago||I think the fact that none of||
I think the fact that none of those games will be on and ESPN/ABC channel helps us. They've done non-DIsney games before, but if it's close I'm sure ESPN wants to promote themselves.

UCLA-Stanford is on a Thursday night, so it's pretty unlikely they pick that game.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Not 100%. It's likely both||
Not 100%. It's likely both Florida and LSU are undefeated - that's probably a bigger match up.
|2 days 6 hours ago||In addition to the ones||
In addition to the ones mentioned above, WVU-Baylor is a good match up (though not as good as ours), and Alabama-TAMU. I don't think any of those get it, but after Florida's game yesterday, I think Florida-LSU will be a good option.
That said, since Game Day hasn't been in Ann Arbor in a while and the Harbaugh factor, I feel like Michigan-MSU is the no-brainer option here.
|2 days 7 hours ago||These things are picked weeks||
These things are picked weeks in advance. And if you look at who's playing on the Disney channels this weekend, it's not a surprise they were picked over us. Oklahoma-Texas, Miami-Florida St., WVU-OK St (both ranked, btw), Arkansas-Alabama (who were both ranked preseason), Clemson-GT (same), Wisco-Neb (same) and LSU-South Carolina.
Those all looked like bigger match ups a month ago, and the rivalry games (Miami-FSU and OU-Texas) were always going to be primary network games.
|2 days 7 hours ago||I mean, they're only one spot||
I mean, they're only one spot ahead of us. Are we really getting worked up over one poll spot at this point in the season? That will work itself out.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Probably because people think||
Probably because people think Alabama is really good. Whether or not this has been proven this year is debatable, but it's not exactly a stretch. People think Georgia will be good (I among them) and they got beat. albeit handily, to one of the top teams in the country, and the top program in the country over the last 7ish years.
That's not SEC bias. They're basically saying "we think Alabama is better than Utah and outside of those losses, we think Georgia is a little better than Michigan." Is that really such a stretch?
|2 days 7 hours ago||Is there Southern bias?||
Is there Southern bias? Which Southern schools are ahead of us that shouldn't be? Clearly Alabama, LSU and Clemson should be ahead of us. Ole Miss and Florida as well - both have a very good quality win. TAMU is undefeated so I'm not sure why they wouldn't be ahead of us.
The only one you could argue for is FSU, who hasn't played anyone yet but also hasn't lost. Are they going to rank a one-loss anybody over an undefeated FSU at this point in the season? Probably not.
|3 days 6 hours ago||Ew that both of the guys you||
Ew that both of the guys you list as "talent" are Buckeyes. At least throw someone else in there.
Secondly - why would either of those guys do that? That's a major step down, and I can't imagine a scenario where BTN is willing to pay more than Disney for a guy both want. BTN is just second tier - you hope that the second tier people they find can do a decent job.
|3 days 6 hours ago||We need a long drive to start||
We need a long drive to start the second half to keep our D fresh. If our D starts to get tired (and we don't have a big lead by then) I won't feel very good about this game. Surprisingly enough, they've run more plays than us so far.

He's not saying he knows of thinks he's being disciplined, just speculating as to why he didn't make the trip. Sometimes guys do something like show up late to a meeting and the coach says "you're not making the trip." We're all speculating here anyway.
