Thank you. Let’s not show…

Thank you. Let’s not show our racism by being upset when a black kid says the n word on social media. I thought this blog was past this.

Angeleno here (as the name…

Angeleno here (as the name suggests) and I agree with the above that you’d be VERY hard pressed to make this work (without leaving before the game ends). Getting out of the rose bowl is a nightmare and finding an Uber/Lyft might take a while. You’d have to walk/run 30min+ to get somewhere they could pick you up and even then it might take a while. And I doubt the game ends before 6:30, and as easy as Burbank airport is, you’d still have to get there by 7:45 to feel good about it.

Id say your likelihood of success here (watching until the end and still making your flight, assuming the game isn’t a blowout with people leaving early) is very low.

I’m fine with them being…

I’m fine with them being ranked, they’re too talented to be out of the top 25 just yet. But being ranked above Duke? What the fuck is that about.

Really? I disagree with that…

Really? I disagree with that, I think it's about the best sport for TV. Not too long, there are built in breaks, and it's pretty easy to follow (assuming you understand the game from a rudimentary standpoint). Since the ball is almost always in someone's position, it's easier to follow than say hockey where the puck can be tough to find (or is behind the boards).

No doubt. A big part of that…

No doubt. A big part of that is that unlike football, most of the team is not on full scholarship (many contributors aren't on scholarship at all. This gives schools like Maryland, PSU, even OSU and Rutgers to an extent, etc. who have great in-state HS lacrosse a huge advantage because they can recruit instate kids who will pay the same in tuition as a half scholarship at Michigan.

This is by no means the only (or even the main) reason, but it contributes for sure. If Michigan offers a half-scholarship to a kid from Cleveland or Baltimore, and their in-state school does the same, that recruit would be paying less than half as much to go to OSU or Maryland, setting aside the other advantages of those schools (and of staying closer to home). Michigan has far less instate talent to do that with.

A) a decade isn't a lot of…

A) a decade isn't a lot of time.

B) and we're at a pretty large geographic disadvantage against the rest of the conference/country.

The NCAA tournament is small in lacrosse, only 16 teams, and there are enough Blue Bloods (the entire ACC, much of the Ivy League, half the Big Ten plus teams like Denver, etc) that making the tourney is pretty tough even for those mentioned above.

All that said, I think some thought we'd be at least a little better at this point than we are, and this season started out looking promising. It was also pretty close to being pretty good, as a poster above showed (lots of close losses to good/very good teams). BUT - one of these years we need to start turning those close losses into wins more than once a year.

He was not that big of a…

He was not that big of a recruit. He wasn't able to start on his (admittedly stacked) HS team, but as a senior going to Michigan, that was a red flag. He was a solid recruit, but certainly not "big time."

Tesla - that's pretty common…

Tesla - that's pretty common though, and we've seen it plenty in previous years. There is a difference between "we looked at this kid again and made a decision to move him down" and "we liked his rating, but due to other players getting a boost, his ranking dropped." This is the downside to being a top-100ish player early. Even if the experts opinion of you doesn't change, you're bound to drop as other players who weren't previously on the radar start to show out.

Overpriced? I mean yeah if…

Overpriced? I mean yeah if you're buying it in a casino, but that's not exactly a good measure of the town.

Mods - can we get rid of…

Mods - can we get rid of this asshole? (referring to WoodyBlue if that wasn't abundantly clear).

I'm all for opposing viewpoints when presented maturely/respectfully. Clearly not the case here.

Agreed. Track guy here to…

Agreed. Track guy here to interpret that time but you beat me to it. No, that's not Roman Wilson speed but even more WRs or CBs aren't breaking 11 in the 100m, at least not by much. Running in the 10s is elite for any football position.

For a linebacker? That's just short of blazing.

Unpopular opinion, but I…

Unpopular opinion, but I would take Kiffin in a heartbeat if Harbaugh left, and I'd be excited about it. That guy moved up too quickly when he was really young and gets a bad rap for that, but he can coach and recruit. He's going to get another chance at a major program and crush it.

Agreed - Derek Carr is good.

Agreed - Derek Carr is good.

She heard it from a friend…

She heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another he was messin around.

This shitty thing here is…

This shitty thing here is she has 275k followers and seems pretty certain about it. That's...not great.

Not a ton of RBs wanting to…

Not a ton of RBs wanting to be the next Kareem Walker.

Of course the fraud has been…

Of course the fraud has been going on, but that's what has kept it from being this blatant and coordinated. It's like smoking weed. Sure, plenty of people did it when it was illegal, but once it was legalized it opened a market for people who wanted to before but weren't willing to risk it (my mom).

Fantastic blocker. The…

Fantastic blocker. The number of touchdowns that featured massive blocks from All are too numerous to list.

Financially, yes. But the…

Financially, yes. But the players are still students, and even though a lot of them (most of them?) aren't maximizing their academic experiences, some of them still are and those guys are using their degrees to do things after football. Going fully away from that would be a major problem for the vast majority of even P5 players.

He's a good player, but…

He's a good player, but there's not a clear open spot for him and he'll have to beat out some talented guys older than him to make that happen. Not saying he can't, but that's a bold prediction.

Core I think you and I are…

Core I think you and I are saying the same thing. Skipping a party is less of a sacrifice when you're invited every year.

If you get to party every…

If you get to party every Friday, you're more likely to skip the party one weekend than someone who has been waiting years to finally get invited to the party.

I am convinced I am the only…

I am convinced I am the only living person who knows what "begs the question" means, and now you make me think there are two. Easily one of the most misused phrases in our language. It's one of those things that gets misused so much that the actual meaning will be changed as a reflection, to anyone who isn't a college logic professor.

I give negative shits about…

I give negative shits about Georgia excuses.

Catherine O'Hara realized it…

Catherine O'Hara realized it mid-flight. "DAXTON!"

I think we're technically…

I think we're technically still waiting to hear about Hayes but all signs point very strongly to him returning.

Interior OL are rarely early…

Interior OL are rarely early draft picks, and as someone posted earlier in this thread, he was projected as the #10 center in the draft. That's borderline getting drafted at all so why not spend a year firming up that draft position.

As someone who grew up…

As someone who grew up studying my US map placemat pretty closely at meal times, I can attest that Maryland is in fact in the United States.

No way he's flying to Texas…

No way he's flying to Texas for a game 2 days before his semifinal.

Yeah, and it doesn't say he…

Yeah, and it doesn't say he's giving each job equal time. "Juggling both jobs" could mean making a few calls/texts/emails for Oregon in his free time but spending the bulk of his time and concentration on Georgia, which is what I suspect he's doing.

Yeah but there is nothing…

Yeah but there is nothing mentioned about coaching Oregon in their game. So I think the answer to the question in the OP is "no."

Their alternative is losing…

Their alternative is losing their defensive coordinator a couple weeks before one of the biggest games in school history. I'm not surprised they're letting him.

Yeah that tweet doesn't say…

Yeah that tweet doesn't say anything about him coaching Oregon in their bowl game.

Except that, unlike…

Except that, unlike astrology, betting (and the associated trends) have a lot of data behind them. It's fine if you don't want to follow it, and it's far from infallible, but comparing it to astrology just tells us you don't understand it very well.

It blows my mind how every…

It blows my mind how every dumb people just throws out "but 99% of people (blank)" and that automatically makes something a non-threat.

A) Higdon was a 4 star, not…

A) Higdon was a 4 star, not that it matters.

B) I wasn't commenting at all on his ranking. I was responding to the guy above who said "we offered and jumped immediately into his top 3." That's not a huge deal when none of the teams previously in his top 3 were top schools.  It's not like his top 3 was Oklahoma, Texas and USC. Who did we bump, Cal?

Of course we jumped immediately into his top 3. That's not a reason not to be excited about the recruit, I'm just saying that beating out those other schools isn't what should get us excited either.

Not to be a downer here but…

Not to be a downer here but looking at the other schools in his top 3, that's not a huge deal.

Just because it doesn't make…

Just because it doesn't make sense to you (who almost certainly has incomplete information), doesn't mean it "doesn't make sense." And the kid being from Akron suggests there's a decent chance he would prefer to play for OSU (or simply closer to home) and that could trump certain other aspects of the decision. Or, maybe he just thinks he has more of a future at LB and felt he was out of position where he was and OSU is giving him the chance to play the position he prefers.

Point is, there are a lot of plausible explanations that make this decision "make sense."

Dude you are on a role today…

Dude you are on a role today. Just admit you worded it poorly. This one is on you, not the people who "didn't understand" your post. What you said could be interpreted only one way, and it was. You were just incorrect.

Yeah that would not have…

Yeah that would not have been a recipe for success. The only thing that has kept Harbaugh here through the first 6 years have been his coaching accomplishments "we know this guy can win." Without that, he lasts 3-5 years and is gone.

Not only that (which is a…

Not only that (which is a lot and all true) but Hoke was the primary recruiter for Tom Brady and Brady himself credits Hoke greatly for bringing him to Michigan. Both Woodson and Brady were too of the biggest proponents of his hire initially.

Yes, it didn't work out. No one is suggesting we re-hire Hoke. But it's OK to remember the guy fondly too. He bought us a Sugar Bowl win and recruited Jabrill Peppers, one of the most exciting Michigan players in the last couple decades.

Yeah this is exactly it. He…

Yeah this is exactly it. He's made plenty of money and he's in the twilight of his career where he's still making great money at a place he loves (and where they love and appreciate him back). He's got things rolling at SDSU and should be able to keep that going for a few more years until he decides to retire and retire very comfortably. Good for him.

I don't have any advice but…

I don't have any advice but I feel for you man.

What's more indicative is he…

What's more indicative is he's the #25 IOL in the country, and that includes guards and centers. So for a position group that includes 3 starters, he's only ranked below 24 nationwide, that's solid to say the least.

You can take a step back in…

You can take a step back in one position group and still be just as good as a unit. We've seen that happen at Michigan (and other schools) before. And I'm guessing our D might be slightly inferior but with an offense that will almost certainly be at least slightly superior, that sets up for another very good season.

No heir apparent for them…

No heir apparent for them specifically, but it's possible our D is about as good as this year with so much returning talent on the DL and guys like Jaylen Harrell and hopefully McGregor ready to step into the vacated Edge roles. We also return Colson, NHG and Barrett at LB and despite losing Hill and Hawkins, we return all 3 corners who started this year plus Moore, Moten and Paige at safety, leaving us with a ton of experienced depth on D.

Considering our O could take a solid step forward, we could be in for a similar season next year.

Yeah I just got an email…

Yeah I just got an email from YTTV confirming it.

Haha sure. But two of them…

Haha sure. But two of them are wearing pullovers and a third is wearing a hoodie so it must have been a little chilly.

Exactly. Zeke Barry, for…

Exactly. Zeke Barry, for example, is ranked ahead of him in CA but he's a Bay Area kid and therefore not part of LA. I just looked, and according the composite, he's the 22nd ranked kid in the LA area (I included LA, Orange, SB and Riverside counties). Crazy thing is he's the 3rd highest ranked kid at his own high school (and their rival HS, Mater Dei, has 4 of the top 6 in the state).

Best comp that comes to mind…

Best comp that comes to mind is Ryan Glasgow and I think we'd all take another Ryan Glasgow in a heartbeat.
