6 hours 39 min ago Yes, Omar, you've now said

Yes, Omar, you've now said this 5 times in this thread.  We understand how you feel.

6 hours 40 min ago But that's not what the

But that's not what the poster you replied to was saying - read it again.  He's saying it's not like they took a man out of the box because they were doing well enough, they kept him there because they wanted to keep doing well enough.  Which is how you keep them honest.

8 hours 42 min ago Mostly because we haven't

Mostly because we haven't offered a ton of backs, nor do we seem to be recruiting them too heavily. I think they'll try to get one they really like, but it certainly seems possible that they don't take one.

8 hours 46 min ago Hey now, I'm the one from

Hey now, I'm the one from California and I haven't heard of casual socks. But maybe that's because if I'm not at work at the gym, I'm not wearing any socks.

10 hours 43 min ago To be honest, they're both

To be honest, they're both shit arguments.

The bubble screen works for some teams.  Other good offenses don't use it at all.  But just because one play can be effective doesn't mean that our coaches can't feel our talent can be better utilized running other stuff.

Not every play is the best play for every team.

10 hours 48 min ago So you think we scored all

So you think we scored all those points against South Carolina, or OSU the year before, by going after our opponents' good match ups?  Let's not act like our offense has been anemic.

10 hours 51 min ago I don't see what the key is

I don't see what the key is that you're referring to.  Colin said that they were not doing that, meaning we were keeping them honest, and that's the point.

Balance isn't so much about yardage as it is about play calling.  There is almost always one that you'll do better than the other.  The goal is, if you're a good passing team, to keep running the ball so that the defense doesn't always look for the pass, and vice versa.  Even if those running plays are less successful than the passing plays, they're important to run.

12 hours 4 min ago Yes, the gameplan is

Yes, the gameplan is partially responsible for that, and I don't think he is disputing that.  He's not using the turns theory as an excuse.  The question he was responding to was about how the offense doing well early affects what it can do later in the game, and his response is "because of turns."

I think his point is that regardless of whose fault it is, how many turns they lose (or don't lose) early on has an impact on how the game is called moving forward.  That said, when there are more missed assigments or turnovers than usual, that can certainly put you in a bigger hole.

12 hours 9 min ago I don't think AB is saying

I don't think AB is saying that if the center can't move the NT we're screwed (or any of the other individual match-ups you mentioned).  If we play a team with a dominant NT or a great DB or some other bad match up for us, we just game plan around it.

You seem to suggest that if we had guys who couldn't do certain things well, we'd keep them in and run the play anyway.  Pulling isn't exactly rocket science though, and we should  have a couple guys who can do it effectively.

"Out-executing" can still have deception to it.  Alabama might not run the option, but it's not like the defense always knows where they're going.  You run multiple plays from the same formation or you audible at the line.   You mix it up.  You don't need to have Alabama talent to run their offense effectively, but we'll be pretty close here soon so that might not even matter.

12 hours 37 min ago I'll throw a few on

Cutting down a Christmas tree with my oldest (a lot warmer in CA).

At Christmas time

And eating ice cream at the mall.

12 hours 59 min ago But I think you're wrong

But I think you're wrong here.  Teams had to keep defending the run up the middle because we kept doing it.  A defense doesn't think "we just stopped them on a run up the middle, so lets start defending it less."  because they know we'll keep doing it.  You do certain things at the risk of it not working to keep the defense honest.  And sometimes bad plays work in certain situations because it's not what the defense was expecting.

In Denard's career, how many times did we see him throw it deep, knowing it probably wasn't going to be a good throw?  Kind of a lot, but because it sometimes worked, and the defensive coaches knew we'd try it a few times, they couldn't suck their safeties up too much.  If we would have said "Denard doesn't throw an accurate deep ball, so since it's unlikely to work, let's never do it" then the defense would have had a much easier time defending Denard on runs.

I'm not saying everything in that half was great, and obviously it didn't work, but it's not as simple as you make it out to be.

13 hours 31 min ago Agreed, this was incredible.

Agreed, this was incredible.

The 4th down stuff about Hoke was probably my favorite.

13 hours 52 min ago Yes, they each have a Midwest

Yes, they each have a Midwest guy, but because more talent comes out of the big football states, they always start there.  Plus, most of the 2015 guys haven't been to campst yet, so guys from different parts of the country haven't yet been compared in the same setting.  Think about it - a kid from CA or TX or FL who looks good on film will get a higher initial rating than a kid from MI who looks just as good and it's not until these guys are put up against other elite players that their ratings shake out.

Like I said, we'll see where 2015 is when it's 2015, but there is certainly not a trend from 2008-2013 based on the numbers you posted.  Plus, 2015 could just be an anomoly.

14 hours 16 min ago Wait until the final rankings

Wait until the final rankings come out before making this leap. Every single year, the hot bed areas dominate the early lists and the less scouted areas trickle in as the process goes.

Show me the same numbers for 2012 and 2013. How do those compare?

Agreed. Jamabo's film is just so-so.

He's one of like 50 CA QBs on that list. One is right around the corner from me: Brady White. His name would fit well both with out coach and previous M players at his position.

Iowa got a Parade All American? What a Jok(e).

17 hours 39 min ago Huh. When I'm wearing jeans

Huh. When I'm wearing jeans people don't see my socks (and if they do I don't really care). Then again, I'd actually be embarrassed if someone caught me wearing colorful socks.

I guess designer hosiery isn't for me then.

18 hours 22 min ago Excuse my ignorance, but what

Excuse my ignorance, but what are casual socks? I have dress socks, and I have white regular (athletic?) socks. Are casual socks different?

The fact that I'm 5'9" and my wife is 5-flat screams neither, actually. I'm thinking lax like the OP, maybe some baseball since we're kind of in a hot bed for that.

Thanks Quiverfull, so are we.

1 day 10 hours ago Well that's like 10,000

Well that's like 10,000 spoons alright.

1 day 10 hours ago I'm not being a childish

I'm not being a childish dickwad at all.  I'm agreeing that Ohio isn't all bad, but that Michigan has more going for it than Ohio.

Detroit is also on the upswing.  Grand Rapids is a great town for its size as well, and we all know about AA.  I will not agree with you that Ohio and Michigan are the same, not even close.  Ohio has nothing that can compete with Northern Michigan, nothing that can compete with the Lake Michigan Shore, nothing that can compete with Mackinac Island (and bridge) and the UP.  There's no Lake Charlevoix or Torch Lake or Higgins.  I have a framed picture of Sleeping Bear Dunes in my house - Ohio has nothing that looks anything like that.  Michigan has a lot to offer that Ohio does not.

1 day 10 hours ago Fact.  Bears at beets.

Fact.  Bears at beets.

Bears.  Beets.  Battlestar Gallactica.

1 day 11 hours ago See, I disagree. The

See, I disagree. The adjective in this context should not be describing the ceiling, it should only describe where the ceiling is located. An immense ceiling does us no good if it's near the ground.

I just think Brian got too fancy with the vocabulary and used a word that doesn't work.

1 day 11 hours ago That's good to hear.  It

That's good to hear.  It sounds like all the kids who are born around the time Henry was do just fine, so we're not so worried about that anymore.  But he's at UCLA and we live in Valencia, so we want to see him every day but it's not exactly right around the corner (and we have an almost 3 year old at home).  Needless so say, we'll be very happy to have him home, which I literally just found out will be on Satuday!

1 day 11 hours ago Thanks.  It seems to inch by,

Thanks.  It seems to inch by, but then you're almost done and it still feels like he was born yesterday.

I'll share a picture - at least we know the NICU is relaxing:

1 day 11 hours ago This is correct - rivals

This is correct - rivals always change with different sports.  For instance, when the Big Ten lacrosse league starts (if it starts relatively soon) I'm sure OSU will get geared up for PSU and Maryland more than us, simply because those will be the teams giving them the most competition for the championship.  It will be a big game just because it's us and them, but not always the biggest on the schedule for every sport.

I also bet the softball girls don't see OSU as their biggest rival.

1 day 11 hours ago First off, don't equate

First off, don't equate Detroit and Michigan.  Cleveland sucks too, by the way, and it's not like Youngstown is Pleasantville.

But you can't say "if not for the best things there, it would suck" because obviouslty.  If not for the ocean Florida would suck and if not for the mountains Colorado would suck.

Though I would also argue that Michigan has the best inland lakes of any state in the Union, and that's another huge advantage Michigan has over Ohio.

I've lived in both states, and I'm not going to say Ohio has no redeeming qualities, but comparing the two against each other - I think Michigan takes the cake.
