Agreed, this single play is not reflective of the entire game AT ALL. I can't even say it's the best football hit I've ever laid witness to...and that's me trying to be as objective as possible.
And yet I've been subjected to the repeated torture of seeing it over and over and over and over, etc...though I did take a little satisfaction in seeing Vincent Smith pop up and stare down Clowney the last time I saw the replay which was...oh uh, this morning for the ESPYs! Ugh.
Solid film but it is a camp setting...hard to tell what a kid is truly made of when the helmets/pads are off. That being said, I'm not a fan of his throwing motion...he's more of a slinger with a sidearm release. It's quick and compact sure, but I feel he's going to have a lot of passes batted down despite his height, a la John Navarre.
Kid is ridiculous, has everything you'd want in a ball player. Obviously athletic, great handle so he can create his own shot, court vision you can't teach that lets him facilitate, heady defensive presence...man alive we very well could have the next coming of Lebron James if he keeps growing!

I'm going to second the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) idea somebody mentioned earlier. Disclaimer: I'm slightly biased because I'm an RN. However, being "on the inside" both in school and at work has shown me the education/training of PNPs aligns much better with the usual needs in a primary care setting. Lord willing your child will only have the "typical" healthcare needs - vaccinations if you swing that way, common colds/illnesses...you know, nothing needing hospitalization - but even so, there are still a variety of issues and concerns parents bring to the table. Nurses and nurse practitioners are trained in a very holistic way, and accordingly are more inclined to take the time to address those concerns. There is also a growing amount of research showing the care given by NPs is just as effective as that given by MDs, and patients are just as - if not more - satisfied.
This is certainly not to belittle or disrespect the physicians that are my fellow MGoBloggers...I just feel that in general, the medical community trains to "diagnose and cure" problems, and the focus on the patient is sometimes lost. Hopefully, you're less likely to see this in pediatricians since they work with kids, but needless to say a practice where MDs and PNPs collaborate would offer you the best of both worlds, especially in case your needs become more complex.
Seems like a more athletic version of the big uglies Wisconsin regularly recruits to sustain their success in the running game year in and year out. Even if he doesn't start until he's an upperclassman, we need to keep this OL depth ball a-rollin'.
So how many of these elite 4- and 5-star RBs crowding their backfield are going to end up finishing their careers at Alabama? I foresee at least one suspicious release for medical reasons and a transfer or two. With good young RBs already on campus (Yeldon, Hart, and Fowler), two elite backs committed for the 2013 class, and now Scarborough, there aren't going to be enough carries to go around!

I had the honor of seeing an advanced screening the other night, thanks to my awesome girlfriend. I thought the movie was incredible. The acting was a little stiff, but hey, these guys are professional soldiers, not actors (and honestly, I've seen far worse acting in crappy action movies). This fact actually enhanced the action scenes because, my goodness, the way they move is second nature to them!
In any case, this movie gave me a new appreciation for the "Damn Few", their families, and the almost-incomprehensible sacrifice they all make for the greater good...OUR greater good. God bless them!
As a future neonatal nurse (starting work in Philly March 5th, pending successful completion of my boards this Thursday), I love this baby stuff. It's a great way that, as part of the greater MGoCommunity, we can share our triumphs and joys together! I'm very happy to hear that everyone with new additions to their respective families are happy and healthy. :)
Admittedly I'm disappointed, though I'm certainly trying to not get too worked up about the college decision of a 17- or 18-year-old guy. He's going to Stanford, so I'm moving on, wishing him well, and hoping for the best with Diamond, Grant, Kozan, and Reeves.
That being said, with all this talk comparing the academics of these schools, I think it's about time we make some T-shirts saying "STANFORD: THE MICHIGAN OF THE WEST"!
I'm from Connecticut, but my dad is from a small town in southeast Michigan (Morenci, it has about 2000 people in it). He moved to New England for work, and I remember watching Michigan football games with him every Saturday...you know how little boys tend to copy their dads, especially when it comes to sports.
Even though I didn't became a die-hard fan until about 8th grade, my 5th-grade teacher knew UM was where I wanted to go to college, so I was indoctrinated at an early age. It was a reach/dream school for me, but I was blessed to be accepted and have a wonderful four years in AA...I'm long overdue for a visit, I haven't been back since I graduated in May 2010.
Honey Badger don't care if he's invited to NYC...but seriously, I'd love to see it. He's Charles Woodson-esque in his ability to influence multiple facets of the game. If Mathieu doesn't get the nod this year, Miles should line him up in the slot next year...one could argue that Woodson's moonlighting on offense is what won him the Heisman.
It seems the consensus is RGIII...and I agree! This kid is unbelievable, an incredible dual-threat QB. He may not be as big of a running threat as Cam Newton, but he can more than get the job done (he's an Olympic-caliber hurdler, fergodsakes)! I forget which CFB analyst said last night that he throws the best deep ball in the country, but based on all the highlights he's produced this year, I'd say they're right. And leading the Baylor Bears - arguably one of the FBS teams with the least history of winning - to a 9-win year is the icing on the cake.
In terms of other finalists, Wiscy won the B1G championship, and Ball had what, 34 TDs? Unbelievable, put him in! Barkley is more than just Clausen 2.0 to me...not only is he a better QB, he's not a jerk either. However, because of the team element to the Heisman and with USC still on probation, he should wait until next year.
I don't know if five finalists is too many, but LaMichael James and Trent Richardson should round out the group. James had more big games on the big stage than Luck, and certainly has Heisman-worthy stats. Luck didn't win the Pac-12 either, and I think he fell off his pedestal by not coming through in clutch situations. And while 'Bama didn't win the SEC, that's less of a sin than not winning the Pac-12 in my book...and Richardson's TD total is nothing to sneeze at either, even if it doesn't match Ball.

They also hit closer to home for me now. I'm a nursing student at UPenn, and a guy I had clinical with collapsed and died after running the Philly Half-Marathon today. Hit like a shockwave, literally and figuratively.
The red zone playcalling is still bothering the heck out of me. Is it so hard to roll Denard out and give him a run/pass option? If we keep blowing red zone opportunities, we're going to keep Illinois in this game...and that makes me nervous.
At least the defense is getting great pressure! It's helping defend the run AND pass.
We certainly did play crappy today...I'm most upset about that. Our offense for some reason is getting shut down as we get into the meat of the B1G season...like in recent years. We came out flat AGAIN; our week-to-week inconsistency is frustrating.
But the bottom line is that we were still in a position to score a touchdown, get a two-point conversion and tie the game, then play OT. HOWEVER, one poor call and one badly-missed call at the end of the game compromised that for us.
For the record, I think one replay view absolutely shows Hemingway hitting the ground OOB didn't disturb his possession of the ball after he clearly established possession in the endzone. Hence, touchdown.
It's like they're coming back from the dead. Last time I heard something Nickelback-related, they left the stage less than two full songs into a show in 2006. Why? Because the audience was throwing ROCKS at them.

Anybody who will likely turn into an NFL talent on defense...and bring back memories of the late-90s and early 2000s (and even 2006...well, the first 11 games at least).
Can the Broncos just go ahead and join a legitimate BCS-AQ conference and play a consistently more difficult schedule week-to-week? I'm sick of them being the "BCS busters" every year and setting off the obligatory discussion comparing major and mid-major teams. Yeah, they've beaten several good teams in recent memory but it's easier to get up for individual games than an entire season's worth.
Oh, and by legitimate conference, I don't mean the Big East (no offense to UConn, who's just down the road from my hometown). Their football just doesn't do it for me.
Unfortunately, you are correct. In any case, I think people who are outspoken tend to catch more attention, and thus, more flak. In Tebow's I don't view him as a "hellfire and brimstone" preacher-type, just a guy who stands that strong in his faith. As a lifelong Christian myself, I respect him totally for this (though my style of expressing my beliefs may tend to be more muted).
In terms of Tebow giving Jesus credit for everything he does on the football field, that's just an extension of him viewing Jesus as the source of all his gifts and talents (and thus, the opportunities to impact people's lives in a positive way). It's not simply about Jesus caring about football ...though I believe He's a Michigan fan.
And I think that's just about enough of that for now, just wanted to fully share my piece.
This is why I stuck with and supported the Lions for all of those awful years, despite any ribbing that I received from people I knew...so that I could revel in their success - whenever it came - without the "bandwagon fan" label.
If they continue on this trajectory, the Lions will be a sustained force in the NFL for years to come. They just need to bolster that O-line...I'd love to see their ground game as good as their passing attack (though I'd simply take consistent performances from week-to-week).
Is it Tebow himself that bothers you? Or just simply the fact that he gets so much airtime on every single show devoted to NFL coverage...despite not doing a whole heck of a lot on the field yet?
If it's the latter, I'm with you...there is an ungodly amount of hashing and rehashing that occurs on those shows (my patience and tolerance of this has steadily decreased over the last few years). But otherwise, I think he's just a fiery guy who's very confident in his beliefs and values, and that will permeate EVERY aspect of his life (as it should, if he's truly as devout a Christian as he appears). But yes, that can certainly grate on people, I get it.
