I remember Michigan doing the surprise onside kick just once. And it was Lloyd, surprisingly, who made the call. 1998 against Notre Dame in South Bend, Tom Brady's first ever start. We tried it in the second quarter and easily recovered it. Although I don't think we did anything with it and the defense completely collapsed in the second half. I can't remember who recovered it.
I guess trying the onside kick last week wouldn't have been much of a risk. OSU was shredding our D all day with 3 play drives anyway. 20 yards wasn't going to make much of a difference.

Kansas State and their history is pretty comparable to Wisconsin. They were a program that was pitiful for 100 years. And then they got the right coach who completely turned the program around.
But despite the dramatic turnaround, K-State and Snyder were sort of a punch line for many years because of their scheduling. Up until several years ago, they scheduled every 1-AA team they could find in non-conference play. And despite so many 11 win seasons during the first half of the BCS era, they constantly got passed over for the BCS bowls because of their schedules. They were undefeated going into the Big 12 conference game in 1998, lost to Texas A&M at the very end, and only ended up in the Alamo Bowl where they eventually lost to Purdue, who finished in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten.
Even Sports Illustrated took a jab at them once. I have my 1997 copy for Michigan's championship recap and there's a page that has the final standings of the top 25. For K-State, who finished 11-1, it says... "Snyder wants more respect. Hey, Snyder? Play somebody!".
K-State eventually got to a BCS bowl in 2004 after pulling a massive upset of Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title game. They played in the Fiesta Bowl against Jim Tressell's OSU squad but lost, unfortunately. After that, there were some down years, Snyder leaving, Snyder coming back, pulling some nice seasons here and there. And that brings us to the present.
We were very close to playing the Wildcats in the Sugar Bowl 2 year ago but they got passed over Virginia Tech. I remember the mood here was that everyone would have rather us played K-State.

Oh my GOD. What a clown show.
Maybe my great-great-grandchildren will have the pleasure of one day not seeing this crap from the Lions.

And the Lions will waste this kickoff by Ross. Book it.

That would be insanely funny. And Auburn has played a much tougher schedule. But I don't see it happening.

Oh well. Florida State will still beat OSU in the title game.

How many players does MSU lose on defense after this season?
|5 days 19 hours ago||Another common thing with OSU||
Another common thing with OSU under Meyer is luck. 99% of the time, the bounces always go their way. And how many times have we seen Braxton thrown what should be a pick six to a wide open defender only to see him drop it? And then Miller will throw A TD on the next play.
That's the kind of crap I expect to see whenever OSU plays.

I confess, I actually like Gus Johnson. He's had some epic, funny, over the top broadcasts of bottom dweller B1G basketball games in the past. He can make Northwestern vs. Iowa sound like a final four game.

Well, here we go. Evil vs. Evil. One rival coached by a slimeball vs. another rival coached by an asshole.
No matter who wins, I'll die a little inside.

My 6 year old niece decided over the summer that she loves MSU and she's still rooting for them hardcore. She asked me if I was going to root for them this weekend. I said, "no.". Her eyes then got really wide and she asked me if I was rooting for OSU. I said, "no." I will never root for either team.
I'm thinking of not even watching. Maybe I'll tune in at the very end just to see who wins.
My passion for Michigan football will never change. But my passion for college football in general has taken a downward spiral the last few years. All the programs I despise most keep having major success and all the cheating programs keep getting wrist slaps from the NCAA.
I just don't have much motivation to watch a matchup between one rival coached by a slimeball and another rival coached by an asshole.

When you play Duke, you have to play through the Duke calls. It's like when you play Indiana at Assembly. You're going to get screwed at least several times. it's always been that way, you're not going to change it.
Unfortunately, we don't look good regardless.

I still remember our last win at Cameron in 1996. Robert Traylor with the dunk with just 3 seconds left. Michigan wins 62-61. Feels like forever ago.
Unfortunately I can't find the clip on YouTube.

Nothing new. I remember several years back a news story about a man that shot his wife in frustration over an Alabama loss. And this was before Saban was hired and Alabama lost quite often.

What is MSU currently ranked? If they lose next week, they wouldn't be ranked high enough to play in any BCS bowl given their schedule.

Does the ACC have a toolbag commissioner like Jim Delany? Remember, he openly lobbied for a cheating OSU squad to play in the Sugar Bowl a few years back. Maybe the ACC can do the same for FSU.
As for Auburn leapfrogging OSU, I think it would be deserved since the Tigers have better wins and a tougher schedule. But I don't think the BCS voters would have the guts to do it.

Would be nice. Auburn has better wins and a tougher schedule than OSU but I don't think it will be enough leapfrog them.

Seeing a cheating program like Bama have their hearts ripped out is nice.
But damn. This is like OSU wins twice today. Riding right into the national title game with a cake walk schedule. My GOD. Now I have to root for Sparty next week. Just kill me now.

|1 week 5 days ago||I predicted our offense would||
I predicted our offense would stay dead. My final score prediction was OSU 38, Michigan 6. So Devin and the offense obviously gave me some hope. Very proud of them. It was annoying as hell that Borges waited until the 12th game of the season to try some different things but that's not exactly surprising either.
The truly sad part is even if we had scored on that 2-point conversion, I could still picture OSU marching straight down the field, just like they had all day, in the 30 seconds they would have had left to kick the field goal to win it. Braxton is dangerous, but the D made it too easy for him. He barely had to try on two of his touchdown runs. Just take two steps to the left, and he's walking into the end zone untouched.
The defense was the biggest and most shocking disappointment this year. They made Akron look like world beaters, they made 18 year old Christian Hackenburgh look like Tom Brady, they made Indiana's offense look like Pete Carrol's USC teams, they didn't have a prayer against OSU. It was just really heartbreaking all year long. Defense was supposed to be the strength of this team. We knew going into the season that the O-line was going to be a major issue.
I love Michigan. I will always root for them no matter what stroke inducing thing they do to me. But it was really depressing watching how much they regressed throughout the season and then to finish their final season game like...that. I hated the fact that I wanted football season to be over in mid-October....which is something I always said when RichRod was here. I just hate this feeling.
GO BLUE always.
|1 week 5 days ago||The last two years have shown||
The last two years have shown us that Alabama losing in November makes no difference. They are in just for being Alabama.
I hate the thought of OSU being in the title game but knowing Alabama would have a 3 touchdown lead in the 1st quarter would be kind of yummy.
