Doesn't Patrick Stewart love us? I have fond memories of him conducting the Michigan Marching Band.
If he's a player and goes around conducting other marching bands, I don't want to know.

"1997 Michigan National Championship - who cares what any of my other teams did that year?"
That was definitely the best event of that year. But seeing the Michigan hockey team win the national championship and the Red Wings win another Stanely Cup was also pretty sweet.
Woodson winning the Heisman the same night as the basketball team beating #1 Duke for the third straight season? Love, love, love that year.

I'm half with you. As someone who wasn't around during the ten year war, I could appreciate what it would mean to go into THE GAME every year with both teams ranked in the top five and sooooooo much on the line, just like it was in the 70's.
But then I think about that joke of a fan base they have and I really wish they could go through a decade of RichRod and Hoke like results. It's not just about having futility against us but battling for their lives against the likes of UConn, UMass and giving up 65 points to Illinois. That's what they need to go through. Not winning a national championship behind their 10th string QB ala two years ago.
F*ck those guys. There isn't a more undeserving fan base in the country that's gotten the results they have this past decade.

14th in the preseason USA Today poll.
We slid up to 13 for the opener against Colorado because the first game wasn't until September 13th...and we were the only team in the country who had not played a game yet.

I'm still pissed about the Hail Mary. Don't put the brakes on until we've reached 70 points.

Several years of mediocrity is putting it VERY generously. It's more like an entire decade of crap with 3 mediocre seasons being the high point.
Nebraska hiring that guy is still one of the most mind boggling hires in college football. Even more shocking than the rest of the world's reaction to us hiring Brady Hoke.
ETA: Oops. This was meant to be a reply to A2MIKE.

Going into that season, I hoped the D would improve to somewhere ranked in the 60's. I felt that was the most realistic thing I could hope for after the previous season.
They far outperformed what I expected. But even though it was a win, they still looked bad against OSU, who went 6-7 that year and was being coached by interim Adam Sandler. In their toilet bowl game, that same OSU offense wasn't very effective against an unranked 6-6 Florida team in a 24-17 loss. At the time, I just chalked it up to a rivalry game thing but in reality, we're just never at a point where the D can't get torched by those guys. Can this please stop?

There is currently a Mailbag report on FoxSports.com that asks the question, 'Could the Big 12 just kick Baylor out?'
The first thing that popped in my mind was, "No way in hell."
If we're stuck with Penn State, the Big 12 should have to keep Baylor.

Wet blanket time. What nags me the most is that we have a long history of meh to decent seasons with a first year QB but nothing close to a national title contender.
I'm excluding the Hoke and RichRod years to when the football program was actually stable....
2004: Chad Henne (9-3)
2001: John Navarre (8-4)
2000: Drew Henson (9-3)
1998: Tom Brady (10-3)
1995: Scott Dreisbach/Brian Griese (9-4)
1993: Todd Collins (8-4)
1990: Elvis Grbac (9-3)
1987: Demetrious Brown/ Michael Taylor (8-4)
1984: Jim Harbaugh (3-1) then he breaks his arm
1981: Steve Smith (9-3)
1979: John Wangler/BJ Dickey (8-4)
Granted, you could look at almost all of those years and pull your hair out over the 'what if' moments. Grbac lost 3 games by a combined 6 points, Henson lost 3 by a combined 7 points, Navarre got screwed by Spartan Bob, Henne lost the Rose Bowl by a point on the final play, etc.
But the fact remains that ever since Rick Leach graduated, we've never lost less than 3 games with a new quarterback. I wish I could block that statistic out of my brain but I can't.

I understand your frustration. Having the luxury of lights hasn't changed the difficulty of scheduling JUST ONE night game in a season. No night games in 2012. None in 2015 and none this year.

Now THAT'S a speaker to have. Throw something as simple as a 10 yard lob and Desmond could turn it into an incredible diving catch.

The issues with student attendance predate 2013. When I went to the Minnesota game in 2011, the student section was half empty the entire game. When I went to the Purdue game a couple weeks later, it looked the same.

Well, Dave Brandon didn't want the athletic department TO PAY for the band to go. So he made that announcement of not being able to afford it knowing that would piss people off enough that a rich alum would foot the bill. Mission accomplished.

1994 Notre Dame (the game where Remy kicked the game winning FG.)
Trailing 17-10 in the 3rd quarter, we drive to the ND 27. On 2nd & 10, Todd Collins lobs a wide open pass to Biakabutuka who probably would have ran it in for the TD but the pass was a little too high.
On 3rd down, Gary Moeller calls the exact same play and it works to perfection. Biakabutuka catches it this time and is knocked out at the 4 yard line to set up a 1st & goal, which we would later score on to tie the game.

I despise Notre Dame.
I hate their stupid undeserved contract with NBC because about 24 other teams has had a better record than them since they got it over two decades ago.
I hate their stupid ass homer announcers. (One year, they were playing horribly against Stanford and the NBC announcers blamed it on ND's players being too tired from studying for mid-terms that week. Apparently ND is the only school that's ever had mid-terms.)
I hate that the ACC got rid of their balls and allowed ND to be a "part time" member of their conference which is stupid as hell. ONLY Notre Dame. You're either a full conference member or you're not a conference member.
I hate Brian Kelly and his stupid purple face.
I hate Lou Holtz and his 20 straight years of national championship predictions after a 1-0 start.
I hated Carlyle Holiday leaving the ball behind on the 2 yard line and getting rewarded a TD. I hated the phantom pass interference on Ty Law. I hated the ref using an index card to see if Michigan had picked up a first down, among many stupid things that happened in South Bend.
And I really hated how they ended the series. Dave Brandon was an a*shole. I get that. But to sneak one more home game in for an uneven number of meetings and leave us no time to give them the finger and drop the 2013 game was a dick move. F*ck those guys.
With all that said......Michigan needs to play Notre Dame. There's too much history, tradition and close geography for them NOT to play. Even if it's every several years. That might be even better because we could still have future games with them and not have to sacrifice future games against new blood.

An older half-brother, who is a major Michigan fan. But he lives in Florida and doesn't get many chances to get her on the straight and narrow.
She's got a younger brother, my little nephew turns 5 next week and I've already got him happily chanting, "Go Blue!"
But her Spartan love remains.

No children. I have a 9 year old niece who decided a year ago that she loves MSU....sigh.
I suspect it's because the entire family roots for Michigan and she's one of those kids who is obsessed with being unique. My attempts so far to get her out of the dark side have been unsuccessful.

I made an attempt to watch part of an Arizona game last year because of RichRod, and I regretted it. Watching their defense gave me PTSD. It was the same thing. Giving up huge runs up the middle, the secondary playing 15 yards off the receivers, ungodly point totals...awful, awful, awful.
