Two road games against non-conference teams? That's extremely rare. I think the only times that has happened before were those two seasons we traveled to Hawaii.

Remember the athletic department's weird way of announcing this series a couple years back? They made the announcement that they just signed a home and home series for the future and then they dragged it out and dragged it out to the point of insanity before finally telling us the opponent was....Washington. And I was like, 'huh?'
We've had home and home series with Washington several times before. What was the point of making us wait for that?
Whatever the case, it would have been a great series since the Huskies aren't a tire fire anymore. But sometimes cancellations happen. The 9 game conference schedule probably made something like this inevitable, if that is the reason.

Extra Credit: When was the first time Keith Jackson referred to Michigan Stadium as 'the Big House?'
(I'm actually asking this for myself as I don't know the answer.)

Braylonfest. I went to that game. I remember thinking that 4:30 kickoff would be the closest we would ever come to a night game.

You mean the lights at the big house might be used for something OTHER than collecting dust?
Seems too good to be true.

Peter threw the basketball down the hallway and it broke mom's favorite vase.
Tsk, tsk for getting the wrong Brady reference.

God, what a scary thought. Valenti's never ending condescension combined with Caputo's mopey and dopey voice and his constant ability to cut callers off mid-sentence.

I loved Stoney and Wojo back in the day. But I find myself getting more easily annoyed at Stoney's high pitched whiny voice every other sentence these days. He's always talked like that but for some reason, it really gets on my nerves now.
I love Wojo. I'll never get tired of him. "Happy New Year, wooooo!"

From that point to Tressel's arrival (1976-2002) that would be the longest winning streak OSU ever had over us at two games, 1981 and 82.
It was pretty huge when they beat us in back-to-back years for the first time since the early Reagan years....and them winning in Ann Arbor after going winless for the decade at the big house.
I need a tissue. Or a million of them.

Penn State's ugly erector set stadium. Eye sore from the outside....
And inside you have 100,000 tone deaf fans who still cheer a 40 year child rapist enabler.
I'll take Northwestern's little high school stadium over Beaver Stadium any time.

I like the renovations. We still have the bowl and there aren't 500 decks that ugly it up like at Penn State. It's still the holy cathedral of college football.
But I do miss the days where they left one gate open all year round. I went in there one day in the summer of 03, right after they put the field turf in but hadn't yet sewn the letters in the end zone. It's surreal having that entire place to yourself. But I understand why they had start locking everything up. Too easy for losers to vandalize it, like when someone cut the 50 yard line out at midfield during the RichRod years.
This kind of reminds me of the old sights at the big house thread from last year...

There aren't enough middle fingers in the world to accurately describe how much I hate Penn State. I wonder how they'll honor JoePa at the game. Maybe the band will make a formation of his head. And then his idiot son Scott will go to mid-field to accept a plaque on behalf of JoePa's restored victories. Then he'll say a few words to the tone deaf crowd who then cheer their hearts out while the rest of the college football world watching on TV go bang their heads against the wall.

Being there yesterday, I thought it looked slightly less than the first Harbaugh spring game from two years ago. But who can say for sure when the people are as spread out as they are?
I'm more bummed over the fact that I thought it was supposed to be cloudy yesterday so I didn't wear sunblock. Now my face looks like a giant tomato.

I was standing in line for concessions (for my 5 dollar coke) when Peters threw the pick 6. So everything I saw of him looked pretty good. Love his arm strength and mobility. Harbaugh can do great things with him.
This was the best weather I've ever seen for a spring game. But the construction was a pain in the ass.

But do they have flat screens in their bathroom stalls like Nebraska basketball?
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Ugh. That one will never||
Ugh. That one will never stop hurting. The way he broke Buckeye fans hearts at the Horseshoe with all those amazing passes and running the bootleg in for the clinching score will always hold a special place in my heart.
Even with the loss of Terrell, I don't think Henson misses a beat if he comes back in 2001, throwing to Marquise Walker, Ronald Bellamy, Germaine Gonzales and a freshman Braylon Edwards. And Tresell's promise that Buckeye fans would be proud would just be more OSU talk that they couldn't back up on the field as was the case the during the previous 13 years.
Excuse me, I have to go find a tissue.

I'd still love to see a screen shot. I'll bet it looks better than that wolverine mascot Sparty fans made in 2003 for the Chris Perry game. That thing looked like a paper mache, blue and yellow teddy bear.

While I love those pictures, I don't think that's the Wangler/Carter game. That doesn't look like the big house end zone behind Corso, in particular those entrances to the seats.
Maybe those pics were from a different game where IU crapped the bed and everyone always assumed it was the Anthony Carter game?

The refs didn't try to steal the game from MSU. That was a flagrant to the neck there in the final 30 seconds. UConn blew it by shooting too early. There was a second difference in the clocks and they tried to shoot with 12 seconds left for some reason, why I don't know.

I wonder if that was considered a big "stadium" in those days.
I'd like to think there was a 1895 version of Carl Grapentine saying over the speakers, "The University of Michigan appreciates your continued support of being part of the largest crowd watching football anywhere in the US today. Today's attendance...800."

Bert Smith was originally going to vote for us.
From Don Canham's book, 'From the Inside,"....
"The biggest surprise, of course, was Michigan State voting against us. That vote was cast by Bert Smith, who told me sometime later he wanted to vote for Michigan (he was a Michigan graduate) but he was instructed by MSU Vice President Jack Breslin how to vote because the Spartans did NOT want to see Michigan go to the Rose Bowl. 'So vote for Ohio,' Breslin instructed. The Wolverines had become the dominant team in the state under Schembechler and Michigan State wasn't enamored with being number 2. It was a situation that continued during my time and after.
Smith's vote probably eventually cost him his job. The newspaper people throughout the state were furious when they found out he had voted against Michigan. It deprived all those sports writers, sports editors, and even some of the publishers, of a trip to California. Michigan State took all kinds of hell from the legislature too. "It just wasn't good for the state," they said. Many had made plans to see Michigan play in Pasadena."

When Billy Gillispie coached Kentucky (2007-09) he made one NCAA tourney and one NIT.
Kentucky fans practically ran him out of town with torches and pitchforks. There were videos posted online of fans harassing him all over the athletic complex and hundreds more following him and yelling expletives at him when he was simply trying to walk to his car.
The fan base is nuts.

I'm all about the SEC losing but Wiscosnin losing like that is nothing less than they deserve.
Wisconsin basketball under Bo Ryan was kind of like Notre Dame football under Lou Holtz. Yes, they were talented. But several times a season, they would pull off the flukiest of miracle crap plays in tight games (very often against us) and this cycle would continue every damn year.
I'd like to see Wisconsin get beat on another 15 buzzer beaters. That is porn.

They show that clip of the final seconds of Notre Dame upsetting UCLA in 1974 a lot. I can understand why because it was an iconic moment in sports history. But fuck Notre Dame.
It's nice to know we knocked that team out in the tournament.

Aren't you going to miss the media reminding us 50 times per day that 10 ACC teams made it to the tournament?
The comparison to the SEC in football is a good one. Even when they don't live up to the hype, the media keeps having orgasms over them simply for existing.
