I mentioned this last week but I'll say it again since you brought it up. In regards to championship years (conference or national) and legendary player numbers on the press box....no. Just no. Every other stadium in the country seems to do that. We don't need it. The Big House is epic on it's own. When you step inside, you already know you are stepping into college football's holy cathedral.

I'm surprised it's going to be broadcast on the radio. Or is that common and I just never paid attention?
I haven't heard anything about the alumni flag football game. Are they not doing that anymore? In 2009, I found that much more entertaining than the actual spring game itself.

These are the moments I remember most from past spring games....
*1998 - Fresh off the national title season so there were a ton of fans, cheerleaders, half the marching band. My first look at Tom Brady who threw a couple impressive bombs. This was in the days where fans got to go on the field afterwards, meet the players and ask for autographs...it was the perfect opportunity for fans to get their national championship memorabilia signed.
*2000 - Another beautiful day weather wise. Creative move by Lloyd to have the offense start down 17-0. Hensen, Terrell, A-Train, Walker and the best offensive line in the nation. But they fell short of a comeback. Hayden Epstein kicked a 60 yard field goal to end the day and got mobbed by the team.
*2002 - My main memory of this game was listening to the fans around me moan and groan every time Navarre came on field to run the offense. I felt bad for him.
*2004 - Parking lot at Crisler was full. I got a ticket for parking in a staff spot, gambling that it wouldn't matter on a weekend. I know. Stupid. Two players (I can't remember their names) sang the national anthem before the game and they actually had beautiful voices. But the mic system kept going in and out and they kept starting over until it went out for good and the team started annoyingly singing on the sidelines just to get the song over with. Braylon had just graduated and was waiting for the NFL draft. He walked around the stadium in a hot pink dress shirt.
*2005, 06, 07 - When my interest in the spring games started to dwindle. Half the team always seemed to be too injured to participate. They weren't in game format. Just different groups practicing different things around the field. Weather was always dark, cloudy, cold. I did think that Mister Simpson was going to be the next Wolverine legend.
*2009 - Decided to go back because of the new things under RichRod, a tour of the new locker rooms and the new alumni flag football game. Weather was FREEZING. The line to get into the locker rooms was over an hour wait so I didn't bother. The flag football game was a hoot. Players that were currently in the NFL were ordered not to play but that didn't stop Larry Foote, who made some amazing catches and did some showboating. The flag football game was the highlight of that day.
And I haven't been back since. But now that we have some Harbaugh, I plan on being there.

Very nice. First time in several years that I'm looking forward to the spring game.
Afterwards, I suspect my fellow wolverine fans will have the exact same reaction they have had after the last 15 spring games..."Oh my GOD, we suck!" But we'll comfort each other knowing we have an excellent new coaching staff in hand who will work their asses off changing the culture, attitude and development to make Michigan look like Michigan again. So bring it on!
See you on the 4th!

Maybe because Wisconsin was a total joke in football and basketball for a hundred years. Then the last 15 years or so, it seems they always put up these great seasons year after year and never need to rebuild.
I'd like to see them suck again.

Yes, it does suck. Kind of like when Notre Dame played Bama for the football title. Didn't want to root for the Tide but I'm sure as hell never going to root for ND.

This blows...seeing Notre Dame play so well.
And North Carolina/Wisconsin...hate both teams and want them both to lose. But at least it's a good game so far.

The old pressbox, while nostalgic, had really become an eye sore. It long needed to be replaced. The only sight lines no completely visible were on each side of it. The old boxes were very meh. And even more tired looking on the outside of the stadium...
But I loved that they kept the old Michigan Stadium letters and put them on the concourse entrance, once again leaving the S upside down...
The renovations really helps keep some of the sound in. And it still has a majestic look. So I love it. Honestly, would you rather have this...
or Penn State's erector set....

But as for the play itself, Mike Gillette's fake punt for a TD against MSU was much better. He had 4 Spartans charging at him to block it and the stupid ref was standing in his way so he had to knock him over.

I'm surprised how popular the stripes are with so many people. I thought the stripes up the sleeves were the dumbest thing about every "legacy" and "throwback" jersey under Brandon.
To me, the away uniform was at it's best in the late 90's when they brought the block M back on the sleeves.
Not that the Schembechler away jerseys weren't classic as Jamie Morris shows here...

Now THAT I wouldn't mind for an actual throwback jersey.

The Tom Brady look. It's perfect.
I'll take the Desmond or the Harbaugh look too because they are so minor. But get rid of that stupid piping.
|1 week 9 hours ago||Hmmm...I seem to be in the||
Hmmm...I seem to be in the extreme minority on the helmet stickers. I don't exactly hate them and I'm not going to waste energy complaining about them. I just think they're highly unnecessary. Lloyd's philosophy was absolutely correct about this being a TEAM sport. But based purely on aesthetics, I see them more as clutter.
Compare it to the epicness that is the big house. Unlike the rest of the stadiums in the country, Michigan doesn't showcase in HUGE numbers the years of every national title, the 42 conference titles, the Heisman winners, etc. all over the inside of the stadium and all over the pressboxes. The stadium speaks for itself. It's majestic on it's own. It has no need for clutter. I feel the same way about the helmets. But that's just me.
I guess it's a better trade to live with knowing the legends jerseys are gone. Seeing someone wearing the 98 felt wrong on so many levels.

It's all about Harbaugh. It will be the first time I'm in the big house the same time as him since the 85 Purdue game.
And because we are Michigan fans, I still kind of expect to see the negative feedback AFTER the spring game about how awful we are....and this tradition goes back many years, even when the program was good.

At age 17, I tripped while playing laser tag, landed on my wrist funny and ended up breaking it. That was the same day as the 97 Notre Dame, which we ended up winning despite losing 3 fumbles in the second half. That night while in the waiting room at emergency, the TV showed highlights and despite holding my wrist in severe pain, I smiled at the shot of Lloyd screaming, "Yes!!! Yes!!!!" during the final seconds.

That's insanely cool. Especially since I thought Grbac had disappeared off the face of the earth.
|1 week 6 days ago||I watched the endings of most||
I watched the endings of most of Kentucky's close calls this year. They had a home overtime escape against Ole Miss 89-86.
They went to OT in their next game, A&M missed a close shot that would have sent it to double OT.
LSU had the final shot against them trailing by 2 and they chose to go for the win instead of OT, their 3 point attempt rimmed off.
They had 4 other single digit wins against meh competition but you never got the sense they were going to lose.
They have had their escapes but I don't get the sense that they're going to trip up in the tournament. Don't they have three players who are 7 feet? I dread the thought of Calipari winning it all because he's a massive tool. It's the only silver lining of Michigan not being in the tournament this year...knowing Kentucky is just going all the way regardless. The title will be vacated in several years because....you know....Calipari. But in the meantime, get used to seeing many happy shots of Ashley Judd.
|1 week 6 days ago||Random observation aside from||
Random observation aside from Harmon that I always found odd, there's no celebration from the players every time he scores. I also noticed this in the 48 Rose Bowl highlights against USC. And in the 65 Rose Bowl against Oregon State, Mel Anthony rips off a 75 yard TD run and there's no reaction from the Michigan players.

I don't think it's any real loss. But we'll always have Dion Harris...
Harris shot the game winner in South Bend the year before as well.

After Harbaugh broke his arm, Zurbrugg finished the season: 63 of 113 passes for 691 yards, 6 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I wasn't expecting a win||
I wasn't expecting a win today. But the officials have been a joke all game long. Wisconsin has gotten away with pushes and a no charge. A ball even went off a Badger player, we were given possession and then the officials overturned it after Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin bench lost their shit.

Traditionally, we don't get offensive rebounds. We won the B1G outright last year and couldn't get offensive rebounds.
But I'd kill just to see us get a couple per game.

The story of the season has been every single opponent making every 3 they shoot in the final 2 minutes of the game, whether they're defensed or not. But blown layups isn't far behind.

I also admire the student who had the strength to walk up to him and show him the bracelet. I don't think I would have the guts to approach him.
At the 2004 spring game (back in the days when fans were allowed to go on the field afterwards) a friend of mine who is on the alumni board, took my hand and said, "I'm going to introduce you to Lloyd," and my mouth dropped and I had a little trouble breathing. We got to the tunnel and Lloyd had just left. But I still remember the near heart attack feeling.
I would imagine I'd still be like that if I were in the same restraunt as Harbaugh. Too chicken to go come near him because I wouldn't be able to speak.

Proud to say my dad (WolverineHistorian Sr.) is now a regular addition to the 8 million views a month.
I got him addicted during 'Its Happening,' month. Now he's checking MGoBlog on his phone several times a day and accepts Brian as his leader. He was practically star struck when I told him I've exchanged emails with our leader.
